IF M$ put blu-ray on the 360 any1 who buys it will be giving money to Sony also Sony won't give them away so Microsoft will have to pay Sony a lot for them which means that the recent 360 price cut won't last long because the price will indefinately go back up again.

It will be a long while before M$ get the blu'ray drive. If sony are stupid and let them have it too early. It will hurt there sales of the PS3.

..the format war, get over it. It doesn't mean that the PS3 won the console war. I'm a PS3 fan but honestly it's just a win for Sony more than anything. If there were a scoreboard, you would add a point to the Sony side at this time. Eventually Blu-ray will become the drive format that computers use, the same way DVD drives became the norm.

Are few things for people to know

1. Sony arent the sole owner of Bluray
2. This has nothing to do with the xbox 360, its more about Bluray drivers for Windows
3. The xbox will never see games on Bluray; they were never going to bring out games on HDDVD so they wont on Bluray.
4. This isnt such good news for PS3 owners, it means all cross platform games will have to fit on a DVD, so most of the Bluray disc on the PS3 version will be wasted.

I hope all companies can agree to use a particular standard soon so development can be made easier.

PS. How long before we see Bluray games for the PC do we reakon?

built-in to a 360 is unlikely. add-on sounds more reasonable. either way. the PS3 only benefits with the included blu-ray player as opposed to the 360 without one

Why wouldn't MS want to find a way to integrate Blu-ray capabilities into their products? It would be a mistake on their part if they didn't. While I think DD is eventually going to be the content delivery form of the future (see DOCSIS 3.0), Blu-ray isn't going anywhere for a while. It's in their best interest (and their customers) to come up with a Blu-ray solution for their products.

I believe Ms and Sony are business partners outside of the game realm. Just because they are competitive in 1 business market doesn't mean they don't have other business relationships. Ms could also always use another medium for supplying games in the future that don't require a blu ray disc. I'm sure the next xbox will have a integrated blu ray drive since they will be a lot cheaper by then.

Xbox 360: $350 + blu Ray Drive: 250-300 or more = around 600$ i dont think ppl will buy bluray for 360 unless there dumb..

No one's adopting their Operating System, and only putting HD-DVD driver support in Vista didn't help much either. They need to capitalize on Blu-ray's success, and soon.

That's really all I can say. The adoption of Blu-ray is steadily becoming universal on all fronts and we, as consumers, can only reap the benefits of having a standard format across videogames, movies, and computers.

getting a PS3 for the BluRay but if MS released one tommorow I would buy that instead because I prefer the Xbox-360 for games.

Not to play games on, obviously. That would screw over the install base. No, Blu-ray equiped 360's that play Blu-Ray movies, but the games stay on DVD. M$ could call the fourth SKU Xbox 360 ULTIMATE!

and make it a high end console. Charge more, but aim it only at the tech croud and fnaboy, like me. Also, give the ULTIMATE a 200GB HDD and Wi-Fi That way they cover all their bases. Hardcore/casual/cheepskates etc...

They're trying to include drivers in Windows Vista for a BD drive? That's great news. My next question is: Where the hell are the drivers for everything else in Vista? I will never upgrade to Vista until MS unlocks the source code and offers it to third party hardware manufacturers so they can make completely compatible drivers. The fact that my 200 dollar sound card doesn't work well in Vista is not a way to sell me on the "OS of the future".

Perhaps MS will use Blu-ray in Windows and as a 360 add on but not as a disc reader like Sony, Apple, or Alienware.
At the end of the day it's all business.
MS wants to put all it's money in digital downloading but I still think they need better technology if they ever want to compete w/ the PS3 or even Apple for that matter.

Yeh thats a problem you will encounter with a new operating system which has to work on a number of different systems with different specs.

what if MSFT "supports" blu ray just to purposely sabotage it by making it "compatible" with windows in such a way that it will totally not work(crappy features, incompatibility issues, difficult to use, etc), just to make it hard for users to adopt blu ray in Windows, thus frustrating users to the point of abandoning Blu Ray. I can see MSFT being a bunch of @$$-hats and doing this just to make Blu Ray adoption hard on users so they can eventually push Digital Distribution on consumers as an alternative to Blu Ray.

i already have it on the ps3, sony should have spent less on the drive and more on the F*king RAM. yea yeah yeah drakes fortune, great game but not leaps and bounds. oh yeah big problem; internal batteries on the wireless controllers, starting to hold less of a charge already. Microsoft would be making a mistake incorporating Bluray into the current Xbox 360 console cycle. It is not a necessary component that would contribute anything or bring anything to the gaming experience.

Compare the multi-platform games for both formats DVD-9 and Bluray. You will see both consoles are on pretty even ground visually other then the debate over multiple DVD-9 disc swapping and faster load times. The game play experience remains the same no matter which format you have. If the developers take the time to optimize for each respective console the games look great on either format.

Nintendo is leading this console race based on entry price point. Nintendo doesn't need Bluray! Why is it necessary for Microsoft? Previous console sales economics show that price is the biggest contributing factor in a consoles success in reaching the mainstream.

The Playstation 2 didn't sell 80 plus million, until after it was priced well below the $200.00 dollar mark. Our current economy cannot support an entry point of $599.00 or higher just for a console and no games. That's why Nintendo Wii is selling so well! Sony has had such a slow start even with superior hardware and Bluray. They couldn't sell them to anyone other then hardcore loyalists until they dropped the price.

I give Kudos to Sony and the Bluray Group for their victory in the HD format wars. It will help them move more consoles and anyone wanting Bluray should purchase one versus buying a stand alone player. It’s a better buy, until stand alone players are available at a more reasonable price.

Microsoft should be targeting Nintendo who is currently leading the console race. Microsoft needs to lower its price points immediately. Microsoft needs to also incorporate a hard disc drive into the Xbox 360 core. The Xbox 360 is superior hardware to the Nintendo Wii. Why would you purchase a Wii when you can get a 360 at the same price or less?

Those of you that want Bluray should buy a PS3 it will have great exclusive games this year that you can only play on a PS3. I personally have both and wouldn’t part with either of them.

Bottom-line people competition is good for us consumers. If there was no competition you might be paying upwards of $1000.00 for that game console and upwards of $100.00 per game! Think about it? I don’t want to see either console fail therefore I support both. Thanks

But its not here yet. It is for me. I illegally download all my movies in HD now. My broardband is fast, my HDD's big.

But Blu-Ray will be the next standard. Probably the LAST physical disc EVER. Over the next 10 years, Blu-ray will sink, downloading will grow. I don't foresee Blu-Ray getting the numbers DVD has now, simply because somewhere around the time mass market adoption begins, downloading will take off....

Who the fvck would buy a blu-ray or hd-dvd add-on? The signal goes through the USB port of the console! And don't go telling me the USB can handle 5.1 and 1080p easily without COMPRESSION, this isn't an HDMI port. You want HD, buy a blu-ray! not an obsolete add-on!
