Veteran analyst Billy Pidgeon says $100m Tomb Raider needs 5 to 10 million sales to be successful.
The single-player focus of Square Enix's IP stable has left the company in a difficult position, according to veteran video game analyst Billy Pidgeon.

Jason Dietz: "We reveal the past year's best and worst video game publishers (based on their 2025 releases) in the 16th edition of our annual Game Publisher Rankings."
But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December 2025.

3D Investment Partners, a major shareholder of Square Enix, issued a 112-page presentation criticizing the company's 'sluggish' revenue and profit margins.
Waaah waaah our profits aren't big enough! I mean, they're still growing and all, but we want it faster and NOW! Waaaah!
Get real. Square just set their expectations way too high. Tomb Raider made over 3 million in two weeks and they're not satisfied with that?
Really? Single player is their problem? Not the financial black hole that was FFXIV, a multiplayer only title, and their constant forays into F2P and mobile games (also with MP components)?
I think your analysis is a little shortsighted, buddy.
it'll end up with about 7/8 million easily
For starters, Tomb Raider has multiplayer so I don't know what the title is attempting to suggest. Second, multiplayer wouldn't make anything different. People aren't playing a Tomb Raider game for multiplayer. Maybe if it had a separate co-op campaign I could see that possibly making a difference, but suggesting that a Tomb Raider game would do better with multiplayer is ridiculous.
The article seems to think that Single Player games aren't popular any more, and that just proves that the analyst has no idea what he's talking about. How many times have we all complained about multiplayer being shoehorned into what was traditionally, and thematically, a single player game? How many times have we said "multiplayer doesn't have to be in every game" and were met with the most lacklustre, tacked on version of the feature or vice versa where a multiplayer focused game was concerned. Multiplayer is meant to be a feature, not a focus (save and except MMO's of course), and it will not "save" anything. What if the network connection goes down? Wouldn't you normally want a solid and well done single player game you can play when you can't play multiplayer?
