10 Reasons Why Killzone Shadow Fall Will Be PS4′s Killer Launch Title

"Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, Sony have announced the PS4, unveiling the system’s new features alongside a few select titles last month. A new Killzone was one of the highlights, and it seems set to be a defining launch title for the new system. That said, Sony seem adamant to launch their new console with a bang, so it’s unlikely to be a clean sweep for Guerilla’s fourth console Killzone game. We reckon Shadow Fall could still be the system’s killer launch title though, and here are ten reasons why."

I think if Sony put marketing muscle and make the game KZ2-esque then Sony has a winner!

Irishguy954806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

It looks more Cod than Killzone to be brutally honest. Gameplay wise I mean

http://n4g.com/user/blogpos...
Good user blog on the subject ^^. The Shadow fall gameplay trailer was painfully unlike Killzone. The graphics won't be enough to mask what happened to the gameplay for me. I wonder how the casuals will react when this releases

Edit--
I also hope i'm wrong Gimmemorebubblez, but you can tell how the gameplay flows from that demo, along with the Majorly over the top(albeit very cool) scene of grabbing onto the rope.

Oh it's also extremely clear it is not KZ2-esque. It did not have the weighty movement at all.

It doesn't matter if it's one section down there, it showcased the combat mechanics very clearly.

Gimmemorebubblez4806d ago

Maybe your right, maybe your wrong.
I hope your wrong because YOU CAN'T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS BASED ON A VERY SHORT GAMEPLAY DEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bumpmapping4806d ago

It was one section of the game also not sure how old that build was alot could of changed since than.

NastyLeftHook04806d ago

and yet it will still destroy any shooter"

Spinal4806d ago

Well as long as its as good as Killzone 2 ill be happy with this as a launch title. Wouldn't call any game the 'killer app' yet.

Sevir4806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

For many reasons...

1. You haven't played it yourself

2. What you SAW 8 mins of pre alpha game play with plenty of time of polish.

3. It's got the Killzone Staples, Cover, sliding, and the same weighty feel just from the look of the trailer

4. Chaining kills and the brutal Kill animations already set it apart, along with the bullet time feature to make for dramatic kills, something I think was placed in to make a case for the share button.

the game may look less drab, and that's a fantastic change for a series which was always criticized for being Grey grey grey!...

Outside_ofthe_Box4806d ago

Shadow Fall doesn't look KZ2-ish, but it does look better than KZ3. It might also have to do with the fact that SF takes place on Vekta and not Helgan which are two COMPLETELY different planets and environments.

As for the gameplay, it's all about the MP for me so I'll wait for gameplay footage on that before I pass full judgement.

MysticStrummer4806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

KZ and CoD have been similar since KZ2, except for the feel of the controls and the cover system. KZ's AI is much better also.

I cant really wait to play this game.

More like kz2 and less like kz3 and I will be very happy

MizTv4805d ago

I must if been blazed when I wrote that!
I meant more like kz2 and less like kz3
SORRY

Jaqen_Hghar4806d ago

Resistance got 4m as a new IP on what was an unsuccessful launch of a system. KZ can easily get 5m as an IP that has gotten over 2m in the middle of a cycle on what will no doubt be a better launch.

Hingle_Mcringleberry4806d ago

Fall of Man didn't have much in the way of competition. The early ps3 adoptors had nothing else to play so they bought it. The franchise went downhill from there in terms of sales.
Killzone is a 3 million sales per game franchise, you're kidding yourself with that 5 million.

Outside_ofthe_Box4806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

I know you don't like seeing PS software being successful, but KILLZONE: Shadow Fall can definitely reach 4-5 million lifetime sales if KZ2 fans are happy with KZ:SF's multiplayer. KZ3 managed to sell close to KZ2's numbers despite a lot of KZ2 fans not buying it which means a lot of new people bought it.

So if KZ2 vets end up buying KZ:SF and you add on top of that possible new people buying KZ:SF, 4-5 million lifetime sales isn't that far out of a possibility.

Sevir4806d ago

Better position to market The game, Killzone as a franchise has a great following and fanbase, even with KZ3 being a lesser game it still managed to sell just about the same as KZ2 and that was in the midst of COD and Battlefield sting up the market near the END of a console cycle.

Here are some things to consider

1. KZ: Shadow Fall ranked only #2 the most talked about thing since the PS4 unveiling, The YouTube gameplay trailer was watched more than 4 million times and the reception has been largely positive.

2. It's a launch title, With a pretty sizable community and a pretty well established IP.

3. It looks Gorgeous and Will be marketed pretty aggressively considering
it'll be facing Next Gen releases of Battlefield and COD.

4. It's the ONLY Next Gen FPS EXCLUSIVE announced on the ONLY ANNOUNCED NEXT GEN platform currently and people are excited about it. Battlefield and COD will not have the benefit of being stand outs because they also have current gen and PC versions launching the same time. So a large number of The fan base will ignore the Next Versions because their friends will have current versions to play.

5. Sony is definately going to capitalize on the fact that Killzone:Shadow Fall will be exclusive and deliver on somethings that neither Battlefield and COD can deliver, and will likely market it as the Harbinger of the Premier Next Gen Console FPS experience you won't find from any other shooter because its really will be the only Built from the ground up PS4 Shooter unlike Battlefield which was ported from PC down.

I agree that it will have a fight on its hands because 2 other big franchises make a next gen debut, but its not solely next gen and as such they'll have a better time focusing on one platform versus EA and Activision focusing on PS3/WiiU/XB360 and PC/PS4/NextGenXbox

Jaqen_Hghar4806d ago

a wise strategy. A man will do the same then get a second DS4, Watch Dogs, and Infamous Second Son for Christmas

delboy4806d ago

CoD and BF4 will sell more, end of story.

Trago13374806d ago

I hope this game is a little more open ended than the other Killzone games. Getting a little tired of corridor shooters.

wishingW3L4806d ago (Edited 4806d ago )

same here. But I'm not asking for an open world game though just more open corridors. More variety to the approach.

MysticStrummer4806d ago

Watch Dogs for me. KZ:SF looks very nice but also looks like a typical shooter so I'll wait on it to drop in price.

15 Last-Gen Games That Still Compete with Current-Gen Graphics

GB: "Say what you will about the state of the industry, but even as games evolve, their graphics remain a key aspect. Even some of the biggest flops this year sport some gorgeous visuals, as publishers and developers push the boundaries of what’s possible, pouring years of time and money into their work."

Quantum Break and Ryse are two that I was really surprised did not get an FPS boost option when played on the Series X|S. when i started playing both on the XBO, I thought they are both good, but after playing them also on my steam deck (in 60fps) I just cant go back and play the base games on XB. They really benefit from that faster frame rate.

Driveclub is another i wished had a HFR mode on PS5.

MatrixxGT568d ago

Most games this gen are the exact same except now we get faster loading through SSD and a res and fps bump. Graphically not much has improved, hell most last gen games are being relabeled and resold as “remastered” with the aforementioned updates.
I haven’t seen or played anything on either platform that couldn’t be run on last gen. Guess the law of diminishing returns is really showing itself these days.

127maXimus568d ago

Most games from 20 years ago are basically the same as today, with resolution and fps upgrades. The AI is still just as braindead as it always has been, worlds are full of static, boring characters that do the same thing over and over.

Demetrius568d ago

Smh another reason why graphics haven't improved that much is because most devs too caught up on cross gen. Ps4 was/still a dope console but time has moved on we're halfway close to a ps6 reveal and devs still will be making games on last gen in 2025. Then theres Microsoft purposely got the Xbox series s that causes more devs to try to pull strings as much as they can smh. It's a mixed bag of stuff, the only ones I see pushing hardware is sonys studios and even some indie games look better

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX576d ago (Edited 576d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne575d ago (Edited 575d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro576d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken575d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown576d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72576d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken575d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya575d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast576d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood576d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

Killzone After a Decade in Hibernation

It's been 10 years since Killzone: Shadow Fall arrived for PlayStation 4 early adopters, and there's no sign of another sequel.

Obscure_Observer919d ago

Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer.

Vengeance1138918d ago

lmao sadly? Are you pretending to have actually played the series lol Sorry bud, no Killzone on Xbox.

Cacabunga918d ago

With the downfall of COD and BF, Killzone def. has a chance to make a groundbreaking comeback

918d ago
Notellin918d ago (Edited 918d ago )

What a low-functioning reply here typical of the fanboy N4G community.

Rimeskeem918d ago

“Dumped”

I think it’s called moving on.

Barlos918d ago (Edited 918d ago )

They brought out 4 main games and 2 spin offs: one on PSP and one on Vita. That's a decent run for any series. I also understand that Shadow Fall wasn't a success commercially despite it coming out at PS4 launch, and as a big Killzone fan even I couldn't get into it, so I think Sony/Guerrilla could see it was time to move on.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love another Killzone game in the vein of KZ2 but it's just not happening. Hell, I'd even take a remake or remaster of the first 3 games.

I'd hardly say it was "dumped" though, it spanned 3 console generations and 2 handheld generations.

1Victor918d ago

@obscured:”Sadly it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer”

Happily it was dumped by Guerrilla to focus on Horizon games only. Mainline, VR and Multiplayer( edited to reflect the writer true feelings and allegiance)
Kill zone was a FPS far ahead of its glitched competitors with nauseating bad camera angles, 10 years old screaming curses like a drunk sailor and bot aiming assist.

ChasterMies918d ago

“Sadly”?

The Horizon games were among the best games of all time. Killzone Shadowfail wasn’t.

Shane Kim917d ago

True, but damn the memories of KZ2 multiplayer. Still no MP as fun as that to this date.

Mr_cheese918d ago

Dumped and shelved are two different things

Tacoboto918d ago

And Sony as a whole dumped the FPS genre so they wouldn't have products competing with COD and (until purchase) Destiny.

GoodGuy09919d ago

I loved the KZ2+3 campaigns and MP in 2. There could be so much more done with the franchise. Horizon although good, I wish they'd go back to this wonderful IP. Take a break from Horizon please.

Flawlessmic918d ago

Agreed dude, I would absolutely love a reboot of the series, one can only hope that either resistance or killzone makes a return.

Have nothing but great memories, especially of the first 3 games, but all 4 were show stoppers graphically.

blackbeld918d ago

To making it a successful reboot they have to change that buttons layout! Make it playable like the cod button layout. Otherwise I’ll skipping it again.

Rynxie918d ago

And that's the reason why many fps games failed. Instead of being original and catering to it's fans, they tried to make it like cod. No, kz doesn't need cod button layout. It needs to be like it was on kz2 or balanced liked kz3.

Lightning77918d ago

I think Kill Zone would do great in Sony's LS push. As well as MAG reboot and bring back Resistance into LS.

Sharky231917d ago

@Lightning77

I think WarHawk would have been a great Live service game.

thorstein918d ago

Killzone games were so polished. The gameplay was just simple joy. MP was one of the best experiences.

I remember KZ3, just staring at how awesome they animated the water and then getting wasted because of it.

P_Bomb918d ago

It’s been a decade? Now I’m sad.

LiViNgLeGaCY917d ago

I hear ya bud. We're due for a revival.
