what about the american forums? and also wasnt the playstation blog supposed to be integrated in to the information board or perhaps the playstation network? i heard about this quite a while ago so i dont know what happened. if either the forums or the blog was brought to the info board, it would make it a much more useful feature. i hope they see to it sometime this month.

I hope this means online PSN profiles like the xbox owners get. And if home is to do with this, then that's even better!

P.S. You dont need a PS3 to create a PSN account. But you might need a PSP otherwise, im not sure.

I think this is more about securing the forums from the mindless trolls who are free to sign in and trash talk, masquerading as Playstation owners. Much like the XBOX forums it will be easy to see who has the console and who does not. If this has anyting to do with HOME then surely the forums in other territories would have this syncronisation of accounts.

Greetings all,

Here’s an update for you on the upcoming changes to the Forums we announced earlier this week.

On Monday 17 March, the PlayStation Forums will close for a period of approximately 3 days whilst we implement PLAYSTATION®Network authentication. This means that, once the Forums are back online, you will log in to the Forums using your PSN details.

You will need to ensure that you have linked your Forum account to a valid PSN account before 17 March; otherwise you will not be able to login to that account after the changeover. Click here for more information about how to link accounts.

When the Forums are back online on Thursday 20 March, you will find that there have been a few other minor changes, as we will have had to change the Forum engine to support the new login functionality. Don’t worry though – the changes will be relatively small, and there are even a few new cool features that we don’t have at the moment.

I know that a lot of you had many excellent questions about the changes planned for 17 March, so here’s an FAQ that should hopefully answer most of your queries.

Will there be any downtime associated with this change?
Yes – this change will require a few days to implement and then test to ensure that all has gone to plan. The Forums will be taken offline early on Monday 17 March 2008 and we expect them to be back on Thursday 20 March 2008.

Will I be able to use the Forums after the switchover if I don’t link accounts?
If you have not linked your Forum account to a PSN account by 23:59 on 16 March 2008, then you will not be able to access that Forum account after the changeover – it will essentially be locked.

Will my Forum Username change after the switchover?
Once the Forums are back up and running after the switchover, your Forum Username will be the same as the PSN account you have linked it to. So if your Forum Username is currently “Baa” and your PSN account Online ID is “Moo”, your Forum Username will change to “Moo”.

What details will I need to use to log in to the Forums after the switchover?
You will need to use your PSN Sign In ID (your registered email address) and your PSN password to log in to the Forums.

What’s the difference between the PSN Sign In ID and the PSN Online ID? Which corresponds to my Forum Username?
The PSN Sign In ID is the email address (e.g. myname@emailaccount.com) that you use to register your PSN account. No one else will be able to see this information in your Forum profile.
The PSN Online ID is the nickname (e.g. “Murphy1337”) that people will use to identify you – it will be the name that appears next to your Forum posts after the switchover.

I already have a PSN account but I don’t want people to know me by this name on the Forums – what should I do?
If you are aged 18 or over, you can create sub-accounts for your main, master PSN account. Each sub account can have a new nickname (“Online ID”), email address (“Sign In ID”) and password. So you can create a new sub account and then link this to your Forum account instead, thus staying nice and anonymous from other forumites for your online gaming.

Can I change the PSN account that my Forum account is linked to?
Sorry, but no - once you have linked your Forum account to a specific PSN account, this link cannot be changed to a different account.

Will my post count stay the same after the switchover?
Yes – your post count will still be linked to your forum profile.

Do I need to own a PS3 or PSP to register a PSN account?
No – you do not need to own either a PS3 or a PSP to register a PSN account.

Will we get any other PSN functionality on the Forums?
Not at first, but we have some updates planned for a later date.

If I get banned on the Forums, will I also be banned from using PSN?
As a rule, no – you will not be banned from using PSN if you are banned from the Forums, or vice versa.

i was registering for the account and it asked which country i live in, i happily clicked the little arrow and went to the "c" section and to my surprise no Canada! everything else... EXCEPT CANADA.... like what the hell... it has the United states of America but no Canada....my PSN will say Canada but my account on the site wont.... any other N4Gers have this issue?
