GTA 5: Rockstar apologises for silence, doesn't want to spoil surprises

OXM - The life of a Grand Theft Auto 5 fanatic is a lonely one, consisting of scrolling down Rockstar Newswire threads in search of the yellow post backgrounds that denote official Rockstar commentary. Posting in the comments to its GTA 5 release date announcement, the studio has reassured fans that the shortage of news isn't down to inexplicable malice, or to some grand marketing plan - there's simply nothing to report right now, though Rockstar does concede that it'd rather not spoil aspects of the game ahead of time.

So rockstars lack of news is news XD

R* North is simply magical

SephirothX214681d ago

Best studio in the world. How many CoDs have we seen this gen? 7. How many Assassins Creed? 5. How many Halos? 3 (not including ODST). How many Uncharteds? 3. How many Gears? 4. How many Mass Effects? 3. Sants Rows? 3. How many God of Wars? 2. How many Killzones? 2.

How many GTAs. 1. Rockstar North are 5 years making this game already and it looks to deliver. Now that's a studio that deserves respect.

ape0074681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

i've been a fan of them since they were "DMA design" with their fantastic N64 game, Body Harvest

Imikida4681d ago

actually 2 gtas, IV and V are both in the ps3/xbox gen.

x5exotic4681d ago

"how many GTAs? 1" Aaaaaaaaaand it sucked.

So their success rate for GTA this gen is 0%. Yep.

Worst attempt at glorifying a studio gone to crap (well it's still awesome for other games, I mean the GTA franchise, completely uninspired after SA)

Irishguy954681d ago

Haha, yeah it's shame GTA4 sucked

GamingManiac4681d ago

I loved GTAIV, what do you guys have against it?

@irishguy95 and @x5ecotic

i respect your opinions gentlemen but imo gta 4 is pure concentrated awesomeness, the game mechanics might been a bit sluggish compared to PS2 gta games but it's the most dense, polished, detailed, quality packed and breathtaking GTA ever made, i cannot even imagine how awesome GTA V is Going to be :)

Swiftcricket4681d ago

While I still liked GTA IV I still felt like it was a step back in some ways. I didn't play it for nearly as long as I did San Andreas, but I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say it sucked. I think GTA V is stepping back in the right direction though and bringing back more of the overall fun factor that was found in San Andreas.

EliteDave934681d ago (Edited 4681d ago )

They could still release some pictures now and then. Or atleast show some multiplayer stuff.

I mean come on, they been silence now for 4 months and will probably continue. Its ridiculous.

Snookies124681d ago

Lol, how do you think people waiting for FF Versus XIII feel? They haven't gotten so much as a picture in like the past 2 or so years...

Regardless, I'm completely fine with this. We get WAY too many previews, screenshots, videos, etc. nowadays with these online sites. By the time the game actually comes out, it feels like I've already played it because I knew so much about it beforehand. I'm glad Rockstar is doing this, it keeps things a surprise and I'm all for that.

Kingdom Come4681d ago

I'm tired of developer's showing too much footage of games prior to release. I'd rather enter the game and be flooded with surprise gameplay mechanics and be left to discover things for myself...

Root4681d ago

Even a new trailer would be nice

Or how about the map of the game BUT the other areas are blurred out just to give us a peek

Serjikal_Strike4681d ago

I wish sony kept The Last of Us a little more private, just way to many spoilers out already... Im afraid it'll be another Heavy Rain and someone will spoil the ending before the game releases.

OT: R* keep doing what you are doing, totally fine.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty8h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan11h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher8h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty8h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies122h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 16h ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher1d 6h ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake1d 6h ago

yeh, football is really popular here in europe ha

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake9d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz099d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle9d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto9d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle9d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart9d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher9d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO
