GribbleGrunger4703d ago

Absolutely. Give it a year or so and we should see all sorts of benefits from this through all of Sony's platforms.

SilentNegotiator4703d ago

Totally. I'm learning game development with Unity.

Pandamobile4703d ago

As a Unity developer, this is fantastic.

RememberThe3574703d ago

As a Unity developer, do you mind explaining what the benefit of Unity is as opposed to some other tool set?

Pandamobile4703d ago (Edited 4703d ago )

Unity's main advantage over other engines is that is easier than most (arguably one of the more designer-friendly engines out there), and it's cheap as dirt compared to other engines.

I can pick up Unity and start making games for free. I can port them to Android and iOS for fixed one time fee of around $400.

It also runs on just about every relevant platform, so it's incredibly portable.

PS Vita just got a whole lot better

Anon19744703d ago

I'd been bugging Unity about Vita support ever since I received my Vita although they had been sticking to "No support planned at this time" last I mentioned it to their reps a couple of months ago.

This is good news. We already have a great little puzzle game in Unity that could do with a Vita overhaul. I've already had people asking if we were considering a Vita version and our answer up until this point was "no" just based on the time it would take to redo this game outside of Unity just for the Vita.

I just wonder what this support is going to cost?

I wish you all the best!

Sony Reveals AI-Based Streaming Tech Built for Cloud Gaming

cloud gaming has its detractors... but im enjoying the ease of picking up my portal or gcloud and just playing a game. No installs, no waiting... just playing. I hope Sony expands the library to include PS3 for the portal, i know its available on the 5... I use my portal more now than my 5.

I welcome any improvements to the experience, and wish more would give it a real honest try before condemning it.

badz1496d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I'm enjoying my games through the Portal mostly these days. I think the only time I had to sit down in front of the tv playing on my PS5 is for the GT7 online events, where the noticeable input lag presented by the Portal in online play really makes it not yet suitable for such competitions. but for everything else, the Portal is a perfect device for me and this is without me subscribing to higher PS+ tiers, only the essential.

The Portal has come a long way when it comes to the quality of its connectivity. for several months after launch, the only real way to enjoy it was through your local home network. and then they improved it a lot from there it's unbeliveable. I am using it at the office with Wifi6E (I know the Portal only has Wifi5 but the better AP really helps) and now even just using my 4G/5G connection from my phone I'm able to enjoy my games away from home.

It's hard for me to be impressed with the Switch or Switch 2 while games like Ghost of Yotei deliver the graphics they can only dream about already on my Portal albeit through streaming. the Portal is among one of the best purchases you can make for the PS5. no regret

Eonjay6d ago

Totally agree on the Switch 2 comment. Yotei looks great of course but look at games on both platforms like Cyberpunk or the new release FF7 Remake. Its night and day visually on top of being 60 vs 30.

According to Sony’s testing:

• The AI runs in under 1 millisecond on a single CPU core
• No extra buffering or lookahead is required
• No additional encoding passes are needed
• The system adapts only when scene changes occur

This makes it suitable for real-time cloud gaming, where even small delays can affect responsiveness.

Measurable Gains Without Added Latency

Sony evaluated the system using modern 1080p60 game footage under strict low-latency conditions. The tests showed:

• Up to 2.3 VMAF improvement compared to static encoding ladders
• Lower bitrate usage without visible quality loss
Slightly fewer dropped frames during gameplay
• No measurable increase in encoding delay

salis8446d ago

PlayStation has had AI for their game streaming since they added PS5 and 4K streaming. They purchased iSIZE and their tech specifically for it.

It's the reason who PlayStation streaming has some of the cleanest picture and virtually zero image breakup. if the AI detects image breakup it replaces the frame with information from the previous frame.

It seems like this is some sort of improvement upon that, this sounds like it's a bit lower latency.

Eonjay6d ago

Okay this is really cool stuff.

Whitey2k6d ago

If it uses 1 core for ai can u imagine more cores for ai? Even going above 1080P how about 4k 120fps?

RAM Price Increases Could See Next-Generation Console Releases Delayed

Insider Gaming has learned that the ongoing price increases in RAM due to the rise in AI could delay the next generation of console releases.

What is even the incentive of upgrading to the next-gen after this console generation we've had? Graphics are plateauing, prices at an all time high, studios skipping entire generations or simply releasing just one game for it...
Its a mess

Jin_Sakai37d ago

Been gaming all my life. This is the worst generation ever.

jznrpg36d ago

How do you gauge each generation? There has been a lot of really good games this gen. I only care about the games. First party hasn’t been the best but the generation isn’t over yet

DarXyde36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

jznrpg,

Thing is, every generation before this one has had something that defined console identity. Very little beyond bigger/more detailed games and performance modes are really there.

I feel the last generation that cared very much was gen 7; Capcom's darkest era, but I have to give them props for being really experimental at the time. We saw plenty of new games that still tried to do something new. Outside of Metaphor and Clair Obscur, this gen has been pretty forgettable if you ask me. I'm sure a lot of it is the corporatization of the industry and the creative talent has to keep making sequels and spiritual successors because the cost of development is out of control. But even then, plenty of these experiences are experiences we've had already. And the thing is. Switch 2 and PSVR2 could really be doing incredible things, but it's just not there. Xbox I just don't see the value or point anymore but that's just me.

anast36d ago

Why has is been the worst? I've been gaming all my life and this gen. has been one of the best.

Vits37d ago

Not to mention that just like this generation, the next one will also be shared between the current and next gen console at least for a couple of years. So the few titles that it will had, just like this one, will run on the console you already have.

franwex36d ago

We will be getting games on PS4, PS5, and PS6, haha.

Extermin8or3_35d ago

I think people have to remember the pandemic at start of this gen and how it effected game development. This next gen we will see the PS4 etc support dropped and truly see the full utilisation of SSD's improvements to ray and path tracing and the impact of AI upscaling etc will be where the biggest improvements will come from.

isarai_lee36d ago

My sentiments exactly, next gen has got to prove it's worth before i buy into it this time. This has been the weakest generation in my 30yrs of gaming. From the drawn out cross gen garbage, to so many games getting stuck in development hell or canceled, to the ABSURD levels of trend chasing to the point of self destruction, this gen just wasn't worth it

thorstein36d ago

I'm pretty sure I've already read a story that said Playstation is only halfway through this console's generation and that PS6 is a way off.

Im good with next gen being pushed back to 27/28. It feels like this gen has only just begun.

Melankolis36d ago

Covid-19 held back everything at least 2 years worth. Although many people disliked, i think only UE5 can generally distinguish this gen from the previous one.

DarXyde36d ago

UE5 is definitely impressive, but I would also give the nod to the current version of Decima, at least the way it looks for Death Stranding 2.

CornholioX36d ago

That's normal how you think. Time goes faster when you're older and i bought my PS5 since day 1 release and now it's 5 years old. I don't mind a year delay to release PS6 in holiday 2028.

DoubleYourDose36d ago

Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us.

Eonjay36d ago

I was under the impression that next gen wasn't coming till 2027.z u9gsq

Regardless of RAM price increases, I strongly believe there’s still a lot of potential left for the current gen. I’d be fine with at least 3 more years.

jznrpg36d ago

Whenever it comes out is fine with me. I still have backlog for the next year at least
