We haven't heard much from SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 2 headquarters these days. That is, until Sony Computer Entertainment revealed new screenies again. The game will be released on November 7 in the U.S. (as we all very well know), and from the screenies here, looks like SOCOM 2 will really rock!

After almost 10 years of what numerous gamers proclaim has been the “greatest 3rd Person Shooter of all-time”, Sony has announced that the previous generations of the SOCOM servers will close on August 31, 2012.
It really is a sad day... the game that started the Online Multiplayer for Shooters in Consoles :(
Socom on PS2 opened me up to Shooters and Online Gaming in general. To this day I still consider Socom 2+3 two of the best online experiences I've ever had.
I still find myself bringing up the old PS2 days, going over a friends house to play for hours and hours on end, just because I had a crappy internet connection.
Primarily and Xbox gamer here but I did enjoy the shit out of the first two Socom games. The first one that came out was awesome and it was (i think, correct me if i'm wrong) the first PS2 game that came with a head set so you could use voice commands.
Sad times.
A Look Back at the Past SOCOM Games
One of the things that fails this entire series is lack of promotion by SCEE, since day 1 socom has had almost 0 advertising in the EU, most people don't even know it exists or think its an FPS.
Ok, why have I never played these games?
They sound right up my alley. The tactics, the stealth, the squad commands.
I'd always thought they were aimed more at online play, I never realised the single player was so substantial.
When the first game came out, Conflict Desert Storm came out too and I was really into it, at least for the first two games. Maybe thats why I never got into them.
Now I'm hoping this will be the next HD remake. To be honest I think the fanbase would go nuts over it if all the online features were intact.

"For years the SOCOM series has covered all of Sony's consoles and has since then solidified itself as one of the top contenders that it has on its side. The newest edition to the Fireteam series continues the trend of squad based tactics while also adding some new elements into the mix..." - Just Push Start
