'Dead Island: Riptide' Wii U omission explained by Deep Silver

Deep Silver has explained why there will be no Wii U version of Dead Island: Riptide.

Creative producer Alexander Toplansky said that the team would have had to build the engine to work with the system or do a port in order for the game to work on Nintendo's platform.

"One of the opportunities we had for Riptide was to continue the development of the engine, and really improve it and make a lot of refinements," he told Digital Spy.

"The things that are required to bring something to a new platform, you need to either really get to be integrating it deep into the engine, or you've got to [do] a port.

"Neither one of those was a satisfactory outcome for us, so we decided to do what we got platform-wise and just make sure that we can deliver the best experience we can."

Asked whether the franchise could appear on Wii U in future, Toplansky replied: "There are no plans for the moment.

"It's not something I would categorically rule out, but it's not something that's planned."

Nintendo makes another system, and developers says that their engines aren't compatible enough.

Wii; Too weak.
Wii U; Engine compatibility.

I'm just tired of all this nonsense.

Jesus I wish I waited like another year to buy the Wii U, the support for this system is abysmal at best, so many games would benefit from the Gamepad but its just not happening. I hate how Nintendo said there system would be so easy to develop for when in fact they basically just tailored it to there own needs and now its being avoided by basically 98% of relevant developers. I have always liked Nintendo products but it absolutely sucks ass buying a new gaming console and having it just sit and collect dust for months on end it's pathetic and Im starting to feel like Nintendo has ripped me off. I'm not trolling I'm being honest Nintendo is failing and they better have at least 5 great exclusives coming this fall/winter or there Wii U system will become completely irrelevant as a gaming console.

Confused in pa.

Sonyslave3970d ago

This is called good PR. And an opportunity to hire veterans over scrubs.

phoenixwing969d ago

Not to call them scrubs but yeah some veteran devs are more welcome than others with less experience

Flakegriffin968d ago (Edited 968d ago )

You can hire veterans all day long but it’s the talent Microsoft lacks.

Zeref969d ago (Edited 969d ago )

It was mostly outside of gaming. Most of the game studios weren't affected besides 343i and Coalition from what I recall

Charlieboy333969d ago (Edited 969d ago )

But of course. Just look at the latest Saint's Row....that is exactly the level of quality and writing that Xbox strives for these days.

Aloymetal968d ago

Nope, like Redfall, Craig infinite

There u go. This is way more acceptable than buying up studios. Buy individual talent until you strengthen your already owned studios. 👏🏽

Deep Silver Says No Saints Row, TimeSplitters or Dead Island at E3

Deep Silver has revealed that several of its major franchises would not be at E3 2021 or the Summer Game Fest.

execution171803d ago

Kind of expected TS4 not to be there since they just got a team together for it

Duke191803d ago

Why even show up then? (kidding...ish)

DOMination-1803d ago

Their parent (Embracer) owns close to 70 studios now and they have ~150 games in development.. but those three are certainly amongst the largest IP they hold so not an unfair point..

Dead Island 2 is such a weird one - it reminds me of Homefront in that its a sequel to a fairly ordinary game and going through multiple developers and concepts.. unless it is shaping up to be properly amazing, at some point somebody needs to just say this game isn't worth the time and money.

strayanalog1803d ago

Some truth in advertising here, as they must really know something(y) that I don't know.

I just hope that the next Saint's Row is a bit more grounded. SR2 was great because in terms of gameplay and story it had just enough wackiness. SR3 was good, and fun, but got a bit too crazy adding zombies and all that. Just go back to what made SR2 so great.
