Considering xp will soon get an SP# I think MS should allow for DX10 to work with XP as well. Vista will need to be fixed before it gets put on my machine, and if these things like IE8, DX10 and WMP12 all require vista then I will just have to stick to the previous ones.

After downloading FireFox and using it for a full 4 weeks (yes late to the party) AS GOD AS MY WITNESS I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO INTERNET EXPLORER!

I'm currently using Firefox 3 beta and it already destroys this. Internet Explorer is already dead. Firefox is just stepping on its tombstone.

What the difference betwwen Firefox and Internet Explorer?

It looks good and sounds good but will it perform and be just as good or not better then explore 7, I sure hope so. I'm trying it out. I will report back.

add a butt load of extensions in to get. I have a little monitor program that lets me see memory usage for apps and firefox is the undisputed king. Note: I use activex addons to give IE similar functionality and IE still beats firefox 2. IE7 also renders pictures better than firefox. The only problem with IE7 was that it was not standards compliant. IE8 fixes this. Now it will be down to nit picking who has this or that.

I'm tire of people knocking down Microsoft for trying to be more open and standard compliant. This is a GOOD thing. We need to be encouraging Microsoft and pushing for more other wise Microsoft will start to think that they are damned if the do and damned if they don't and if they are faced with that situation the will go the don't route (which is don't go open source/standard compliant)

I have no beef with IE, I just don't use it. It has made me some cash though by cleaning up people's spyware and recommending other browsers. Safari and Opera all the way baby!!!

OK - IE8 has NOT arrived. This is a Beta 1. It is intended for Web Developers ONLY so that we can test our sites. If you are not a Web Designer there is no good reason to download it other than perhaps masochistic curiosity.

Beta 1 is clearly focused on CSS support and while it DOES pass Acid2 and claims to be fully CSS 2.1 of the two web-based apps for whose design I am responsible, both of which are coded in standards based XHTML 1.0 and CSS only one rendered fairly close to correctly - as it renders in IE7. I didn't have time to confirm if this is because of necessary work-arounds that are in place to get IE6 and IE7 to render correctly, but if they are then the developers haven't kept their promises.

The IE8 beta includes an "Emulate IE7" feature which is intended to let us continue to support IE7 while testing for IE8 - of course they couldn't possibly let us natively run more than one version without resorting to registry hacks - that would just be too easy. So soon we'll get to code for THREE seperate versions of IE.

That is, unless they do what they have said they will and make IE8 render as IE7 by default unless a certain meta tag is included in the head. I can tell you for a fact that this ISN'T working in Beta 1 which makes me think that they want to trick us into conforming our sites to IE8 after promising not to "break the web" - if you haven't read up on the proposed version targeting... well, you might not want to - it makes sense why they are doing it, but it could be seriously lame. Essentially they are promising that ALL future versions of IE will render as IE7 unless otherwise specified with a new meta tag.

Aside from that Ajax is totally HOSED in this Beta - honestly at this point, and with the knowledge of the promised backwards compatible rendering engine this Beta is essentially useless to me - and this is what I do for a living!

Tried FF once but dint like it. Been using Avant Browser for so many years now. Its clean and with tabbed browsing which came when M$ was just a twinkle in Bill Gates eyes.

Buh Bye IE7, we hardly knew you...

IE6 and 7 annoyed the crap out of me because you were forced to finish loading your homepage before you could browse to something else (ensuring you could see the advertising on the MSN homepage you were to lazy to change IMO).

If 8 does the same thing it will sit unused on this PC like 7 does now...

I have a question for all of you. Why don't you give opera browser a chance? it is the fastest of the bunch and the most full featured.

All I will say is... wait for Beta 2 or the final release because this Explorer is bugged to hell. I couldn't even surf MSNBC without it crashing. Everything was in the wrong text size and pictures zoomed to about 150% nothing but jaggies everywhere.

This is probably the worst beta release I've seen to date.

i have opera and firefox installed, but i rarely use them....just for some HTML stuff.
i really dont understand all this fuss about firefox being "faster" and no popups.......I.E 7 worked fine.
although i can believe its more open for Spyware and stuff like that and its a hell for allot of HTML coders.......but for browsing its fine.

Im using the IE8 beta right now and trust me, its already alot better than IE7 by alot. I rarely use FF, FF is alright but I don't want a browser to be a resource hog for what its suppose to do. FF leaks alot of memory, imo that already makes the browser go down on my list as not that great.

I will try the FF beta to see how good it is but don't bash IE8 when you haven't tryed it, yes there are issues but you can emulate IE7 to fix some of the isssues for the time being, keep in mind this is a beta so the problems will be fixed as time goes.

I downloaded the IE 8 beta last night and tried it out. Some sites, like IGN, wouldn't load up properly, and the browser was crashing every 2 minutes (or even more often). Some actions, like trying to re-download IE 7 (of course), always triggered a crash. It didn't just crash either... Dr. Watson (Microsoft's bug-reporting program) and IE would both freeze up and had to be manually shut down from Task Manager. Luckily, I finally realized I could just uninstall IE 8 through the Control Panel.

So, like I said, I'll wait 'til it's done and actually useable.

Whatever 'enhancements' or 'new features' that Internet Explorer 8 provides, I'm sure the next Firefox will do, except BETTER. So I'll just wait for that next Firefox upgrade.

Firefox was the one who first introduced TABs to me. It'll take a whole lot more to take me of Firefox. The next IE's gonna have to do some pretty amazing s***. Cause I am one stubborn ass. And I don't settle for mediocrity. So when I see something that works, I stick with it until something better comes along. And so far, Firefox remains the fastest and most efficient.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
