Nintendo Denies Sensor Bar Problems

Although substantiated reports have surfaced stating Wii has problems when the sensor bar is exposed to halogen light or sunlight, Nintendo claims that its testing shows "no great risk of light interference" whatsoever.

nintendo's answer to the wiimote not being affected by sunlight get's approved, while the one i posted about them being affected by sunlight did not get approved??
Kinda like answering a question that isn't being asked.

I hate it when they don't approve relative stories.

Kingboy first posted about the sunlight problem in his "Sunlight: Wii's biggest foe" post.

http://www.news4gamers.com/...

And then this new story is about Nintendo's response to the issue.

The sunlight that it would take to render the WiiMote useless would also be bad enough to cover the television screen in glare.

Why bother complaining about something not working if you can't see what's going on, anyways?

People will get worked up over anything...

Then there are the average people that Nintendo is trying to appeal to that don't have a theater type game room where they can control the light. For me personally this wouldn't be too much of an issue if I was getting a Wii (which I doubt I will) as I am working on finishing my basement out so I will have the theater room/game room that I've been hoping for several years. I'll have everything on dimmer switches, etc. I don't plan on getting the Wii, at least for a while until the price is worth it, as I already played this at the local Nintendo Fusion show here in Columbus, OH. Played the Wii Sports Boxing game and just wasn't that impressed. I would swing like 10 or 15 times and the guy on the screen would punch only a few times. It didn't seem able to read my actions, and I tried doing smaller motions, and bigger motions as well. By the end of the demo, I was tired and wanting to have a regular controller where it would actually do what I wanted it to. I was mad though that I didn't play Metroid Prime as I was told that there were more games upstairs but they didn't say which ones, and I assumed that none of the good ones like Red Steel or Metroid would be there.

This article is very relevant because if there are issues then it may cause problems when gamers are playing the console.

It's called shutting the blinds on your windows. Also, don't expect to be a master at the Wii on your first go. Just like with anything, it takes some time to get used to the mechanics of the thing.

So quick to be disappointed ;)

i wont have problems with it, and there is no possible way to play the games if the sunlight is directly shining on the tv screen

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996) Still Feels Like Peak 90s Star Wars

This game along with Rogue Squadron got me into to Star Wars. The release of special edition VHS Star Wars collection was perfectly times on top of all that. 😆

Redgrave33d ago

Because it is.

Please re-release this.

SimpleSlave33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

But it wasn't. Although I do agree that some of the tie-in media, like the novels and comics, were pretty good.

Still, games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, and the space sims were peak 90s Star Wars. Shadows fell flat because of the abysmal controls and unimaginative levels. And if you wanted to really experience the seedy side of the universe, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 was peak, and it wasn't even close.

Regardless, and much to my dismay, we got the better version thanks to Ubislop in Outlaws, which is what Shadows should've been, albeit at a smaller scale.

As a kid me and my cousins loved this game . I have great memories with this one and the Star Wars pod racer game .
