The Exploding Barrel: Patapon Review

Patapon is certainly easy on the eyes, instantly hooking even the most jaded graphics snobs with its vibrant, abstract style courtesy of French artist Rolito. The two dimensional presentation serves as an example of how lush artistic design can sometimes trump pixel pushing prowess, and the PSP's screen comes alive as colorful animations throb in time with Patapon's equally outstanding audio components. Boss encounters feature a terrific sense of scale reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus, and Patapon's music - which sounds like a chorus of playfully antagonistic Japanese children - is every bit as abstract as its imagery.
