"blaming shifts in "market conditions" against the kind of narrative experience they were building"

People haven't been into walking sims for a while now. They had to have known this.

It's so rare to see any chance for companies to see some kind of repercussions for poor handling of projects or money. But it just makes it all the more clear that these kinds of things aren't potentially illegal for all, just for companies that aren't big enough.

I feel like there should be some simple laws in place that effectively force companies to better balance need vs greed. If you fire "x%" of your workforce, or you allow contract workers contracts to expire en-masse (as I'm sure point 1 would get companies dancing around legal definitions of "employee"), then some form of negative repercussions would be enacted upon them for 6-12 months. Like....

- Ineligible for stock buybacks for 12 months.
- Upper management are not eligible for "bonuses". As "leaders", responsibility is laid upon their shoulders & should be required to share in that failure. As people with salaries in the 6 to 7 digits, and many of those already have amassed wealth, should be the 1st to feel the "pain". Bonuses are a bonus, and they should be budgeting off their salaries. Them not getting a new toy, or hoarding more wealth, legally shouldn't be an option if it is their leadership that led to upending the lives of 100s or 1000s who can truly have their lives upended. It puts more strain on the economy, lessens transactional velocity, and on and on.
- That they can't acquire new studios if more than 1 has been shut down. If they could no longer afford those jobs, they can't "afford" new studios. And if they are simply poor stewards as opposed to greedy, then it limits the industry damage they can cause.

I'm not saying those are perfect. I'm a rando on the internet who hasn't put in the requisite time one would have to if considering fair legislation. But something has to be done to stop the poor decisions of the few from wreaking havoc on the many.
