What has Nintendo become?

This has been bothering me for a while so I'll just go out and say it, Nintendo needs to grow up. It is hard for me to imagine who can still be loyal to Nintendo after all these years other than little kids. There is no sympathy inside me seeing the Wii U fail so far, in fact I am glad the Wii U is doing so poorly in sales right now because they brought this upon themselves.

"What has Nintendo become?"

A company that makes consoles and games.

Kinda like what it has been doing for the last 30 or so years.

saulx64831d ago

You mean a company that makes consoles and games that are targeted for casual gamers. I have lost respect for Nintendo

Kalowest4831d ago (Edited 4831d ago )

"targeted for casual gamers" WTF
Nintendo games(most of them) have always been family oriented.
Why have ppl only started noticing that this gen?

PopRocks3594831d ago

@saulx6

I assume this means you lost respect for Sony and Microsoft when they put emphasis on Move and Kinect?

miyamoto4831d ago

Dude, nothing has changed for Nintendo.

They have stuck with the Peter Pan formula and that is the role they believe in.

Sony is their exact opposite and can't be arsed to do what Nintendoes.

M$ on the other hand... nah, they are not here to make games.
Stopping Sony is their primary objective ...

ElectricKaibutsu4831d ago (Edited 4831d ago )

LOL that was the shortest article I've ever read. Why didn't the author just tweet that?

By the way, what has Disney become? They need to grow up. When I was a kid I loved Aladdin but now I want to see hot girls in bikinis, crazy car crashes with explosions, and hear sentences that have more curse words than adjectives. I don't know how anyone can still be a Disney fan when everything they make isn't directly catering to my (18 to 35) demographic.

(edit: Hopefully obvious sarcasm is obvious. I feel if I didn't point that out the author of the article would give me an agree and a well said bubble.)

lionxkami4831d ago

thats funny... i thought xbox was the one making games for casuals.... hmmm am i n the twilight zone? this guy is a casual gamer.

legendoflex4831d ago

The ratio of "hardcore" to "non-hardcore" games last gen was pretty much identical to the ratio on NES.

"Kinda like what it has been doing for the last 30 or so years."

So true, they went from hanafuda cards to a cab company, HOLY SHIT they even had love hotels.

Nintendo has come along way

MattS4831d ago

To be fair I would love to stay overnight in a Nintendo-themed Love Hotel.

mochachino4831d ago

What it was during the N64 and GameCube era...not first place.

And now with less graphics.

lionxkami4831d ago

graphics? dude go outside and run around. graphics don't matter games matter.

mochachino4830d ago

Try playing an immersive open world game on Super Nintendo. Graphics and gameplay are necessarily dependent on each other. Both are important.

chronoforce4831d ago (Edited 4831d ago )

Nintendo make some baffling desicions but its like these so called hardcore gamers believe kids and families aren't allowed to enjoy games. Nintendo is dedicated to making games everyone can enjoy like Mario , so they wont make a gritty shooter or games where you can choose you sexual partners. Get used to it

SDF Repellent4831d ago (Edited 4831d ago )

I am afraid the Wii U is gong to be Nintendo's Dreamcast. It is selling way below expectation and it is only going to get worst when the PS4/X720 are released. Nintendo were lucky in the Wii in that the motion control attract a new casual segments but core games simply don't exist or sell on the Wii. I wish them all the luck because I owned all the Nintendo systems and it will be a sad day when they are out of the hardware business.

What I still don't understand is with all the money that Nintendo made with the Wii, why can't they make a system that is truly next generation so third party can easily port their games over. With Nintendo's strong game profile and third party core game support, Nintendo could of easily compete with both Sony and Microsoft but they are not willing to take a loss on the hardware; in turn, that will be their downfall.

PS4isKing_824831d ago

I wouldn't go so far as to say it'll be another dreamcast but definitely another GameCube and that's not bad. The GameCube, while not as popular as the ps2 was, had some amazing games not found on the other consoles. Re remake, re zero, re 4, zelda wind waker, viewtiful joe, smash bros. melee, and several more made GameCube a very good console. I said this before, if the wiiU can at least perform as good as GameCube, ill be happy.

EbeneezerGoode4831d ago

It's far worse than the gamecube! I had a GC it had some amazing games AND was technically superior to PS2 in many cases.

SDF has it right, they could have nailed this gen if they had been brave enough to sell the console at a loss like Sony does - make it super powerful - invite the 'best' versions of X-platform games + their own first party games... I'd be all for that.

I like Nintendo, I like Sony, not so keen on MS after my RROD drama.

What I don't like is Nintendo NOT listening to the players and assuming their barely competitive hardware is gonna cut it just cos they have zelda and mario. It's lazy and it's arrogant. And they will learn that in the coming gen and either bring out a super powerful MID gen console (surpassing 720 and PS4) or they will go software after the next gen.

They could easily release a different/powerful console in 3 years - they don't have to wait for a so called generation, they could call the WII-U an offshoot like the DS/3DS and return to a NON casual console format that competes with sony.

They hold their own future in their hands, it's not a Sony fans fault if Nintendo wish to shoot themselves in the foot

AKR4831d ago

Nintendo is still the best-performing company in the game business, none-the-less. SONY is nearly bank-rupt. Microsoft, well ... Microsoft is Microsoft.

Either way - the Wii U is far from a failure. It's an expensive console, being released in a lackluster economy with no games. The market conditions are far worse than they were at the start of the 7th generation. March is the start of quality releases for it. When we get more and more games, sales will improve. Just give it a year, and trust me, it will be doing MUCH better.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

AuraAbjure72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer73d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot73d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box73d ago (Edited 73d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno73d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay73d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno72d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK72d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
