This is what affects all of us gamers alike! This is what kills gaming! I can`t see how anyone would be happy with this news because we all know that sooner or later all of the systems are gonna be hacked! It`s just sad that we are paying our hard earned money and have to worry about this going on! It`s just sad.

This is also old news, mod chips have been out that do this since July. They're just worthless due to the fact that this capability can be had without a modchip.

Well, let people that want to mod their 360 do so. Like indicated above; every console has been hacked. And every future console will be hacked; as long as disk exists. For those against digital distribution; blame these hackers. Well, let me re-word that statement... blame the people that are willing to mod their consoles in order to use what they didn't pay for. Hackers will continue to do this as long as there is demand. I'm voting by not modding my 360. I did not modded my PS2; I will not do it for the 360. For those asking, why are games so expensive? here is your answer. For the same reason credit card interest rate are high. We all have to pay for those that don't pay for it. Developers shouldn't be blame for this; they most be profitable. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and every other developer know they can't stop this; all they can do is make it harder for the majority of people. So, I think M$ is doing a good job. I think Microsoft should do the same thing that Sony is doing; add anti-piracy updates right on the disk(new games), not only when you connect to xbox live. This will force hackers and modders to have to open their 360 every month.

if this hack for the 360 is legit and works well, i will buy a 360 soley for FREE hacked games. i don't mind ruining it for the honest paying 360 owners like most of you are. i bought a PSP soley for this same purpose too, hacks/mods.

I think anyone who takes it online, will get burnt, quite easily.

and I have no doubt MS can toast the firmware if they wanted to.

I'm sure MS already knows what they did, and new production consols will have been worked around till they get hacked.

MS will add different DVD drives for the new Xbox 360s which will make it harder for them to hack as they need to start over again.

Perhaps Microsoft could include in each new Xbox a stick of TNT. When you open it up.... BOOM!!

Seriously though, Microsoft have been pretty good with this sort of thing so far (better than they were with the Xbox 1, at any rate), so I'm sure that some combination of measures people have been discussing - such as the next Live auto-update or new types of DVD drive in the new consoles - will help to combat this type of thing.

The people who put this out there for commercial gain are the bad ones, they give the ones who do it for fun (and have no interest in allowing anyone to do anything wrong) a bad name.

Microsoft already has the new drives out, that have the debugger removed and a thick layer of epoxy on the dvd rom firmware chip. Lets see people rip out that mother now.

Also the only use for the mod is to play burned games. As they said the disc are hard to burn and requires a pretty good knowledge in extracting the files and then burn them using 1 specific burner and hot swapping the disc. Conclusion: not pratical and no longer even possible with the new xbox 360 that are sold at stores.

And sue the living sh1t out of them.

this is nothing new.... they've been moding the drives for a while now so you can play pirated games... It's just that no one has been able to mod the HDD yet

I mod but only hardmod as you see on my avatar. Thats my 360 and that is how far I will mod it. I dreaded soft mods on the xbox 360 and apparently that day has arrived. I hate soft mods because it has been a gate way for people to utilize cheats on Xbox -live. It sucks but it was inevitable.

This has yet to be confirmed. Many groups have claimed a working mod chip over the last year, none of them worked. Dont get all excited yet because chances are if you didnt see it on xbox-scene.com or a similiar site its a hoax sent to a media site.

I just want something that can emulate the dreamcast thats all I care about.

There are no working mod chips for the 360. I mod chip and hacking the DVD firmware are 2 different things. A mod chip completely opens the console via hacking the bios, the firmware mod bypassed the media check to allow you to play games off DVDR. A real modchip being released would be all over the internet, not just one site that's not even on the scene.

360 HASN'T BEEN MODDED

It's had its DVD drive hacked that's all. Modded is when your able to hook up a HDD of your own to stream hacks onto games like Halo 2. A year out and people still can't mod the HDD.

I concur with previous posts, people over in Asia have been doing this for months by flashing the bios. Playing pirated games isnt a big deal (to me). When its cracked open like the PSP, then let me know.

The DVD FW hacks have been here from March on, the modchips are already there for months and months. THat's the DVD mod, just to play illegal games it is.

You dont want to wait until its cracked open like the PSP. This should be stopped before it gets to bad. The rules could possibly get even more strict though and could possibly change some things like maybe games being played on a odd platform maybe not even on disc later something only used for games and developers will only have access fit for only that to it to slow down pirateing alot. I dont dont know what extent they will go to stop it but I was just trying to imagine what they could do.
