F-Zero comes to Wii U tomorrow!

Despite being a SNES game, F-Zero is being released as part of the Famicom 30th Anniversary series which sees Nintendo releasing a retro classic at a reduced price every month in the build up to the console's 30th anniversary. F-Zero will cost just 30p in the eShop.

does anyone know if I can use the WiiU's gamepad for Wii Virtual Console games? That would be dope!

ChickeyCantor4837d ago

Wii U vc can be played on the gamepad. But that's an update that is upcoming in the summer? ( I might be wrong about the time period).

Normal VC won't work on the gamepad. For any VC you have you need to convert it to the Wii-U first ( Nintendo streamlining again /sarcasm ).

Gameboy and gameboy advance will also be introduced during the summer.

Not quite. Wii U VC titles work fine on the Gamepad (obviously) but Wii VC titles don't. However... Once the same title is available on the Wii U VC, you can pay a $1/£1 to "upgrade" to the Wii U version which gets you things such as save states and off-TV play.

yes you can play f zero and balloon fight on the game pad, the nintendo direct said, the rest of the vc will come sometime in april!! already down loaded both games, so cool to have them back!!!

Neonridr4837d ago

I believe that these special 30th anniversary games work on the gamepad. However all your regular VC games will not currently work as you still have to play them in Wii mode. There is an update coming that will change all of that, but in the meantime, no Gamepad support for all your old VC games.

Regardless, 30 cents for F-Zero? Ummm, that's a no brainer!

Nevers0ft4837d ago

Agreed! Especially as they're giving us Europeans the 60hz version of F-Zero... Now all we need to start doing now is complaining about the lack of a 50/60hz toggle option in all the VC games in all regions ;)

Can't wait for Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, Super Mario Rpg...

Hyped.

Our prayers has been answered?
Hope all games will turn out that way.

Don't own a Wii U yet, but will probably at the end of the year with Wind Waker so only wish the best.

Not something I got into, but if say you're in the UK and you're using a US game, you'll need a US eShop account. Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo is trying to stop people using games from other regions, more so people who buy Japanese and US games on card because they're download/code in a box only in the UK as an example. Not sure if the Switch 2 will be multi-region, but this sounds like a stepping stone to cut back on people playing import games and maybe even making the Switch 2 region locked.

Thank God for PlayAsia and eBay. Nearly everything I want has a physical version with English subtitles. Just can't find most of them in retail stores, lol

Kneetos474d ago

Supposedly this comes with the fact NSO will be receiving an 11 to 25% price increase in "some" countries

There are emails being sent out over it
I have yet to see an email though (UK resident)

Nintendo to Close Switch eShop and Online Services in China in 2026

Nintendo has announced that it will close the Nintendo Switch eShop in China and other related online services in 2026.

BeHunted539d ago

"Starting on March 31, 2026, the Chinese eShop will no longer offer games or apps for sale, meaning new purchases will not be possible after that date. Then, on May 15, 2026, users will no longer be able to download previously purchased games, DLC, or redeem codes."

PassNextquestion539d ago

I don't understand why a console eshop needs to close. Can't they make them backward and forward compatible?

FinalFantasyFanatic538d ago

I honestly thought this was the point of the Switch Eshop, it looked like they were moving towards a unified Eshop, which I also thought was going to carry over to the Switch successor.

gold_drake538d ago

wat ? why?

they really force their new console onto the Chinese players then

PassNextquestion538d ago

Apparently in China majority of their consoles are Imported so they can play more games and use that countries eshop. Apparently China is very restrictive of what content goes on the Nintendo eshop

Tacoboto538d ago

This move has Chinese government written all over it.

If there is one platform you should never build a digital library on, it's on a Nintendo system.
