Why preordering games is never a good idea

Preordering games may, more often than not, leave consumers at a bigger disadvantage than they would have expected.

Well, I sure was glad to have pre-ordered Ni No Kuni: Wizard Edition, because now I would have to pay at least twice as much if I wanted it.

99% of games are better waiting for release and just shopping around for the best deal, but there are exceptions with limited edt.
Bet you don't sell it for a profit, wish i had a ps3 for this game

Yeah unless it's a company like Atlus or NIS putting out something in limited quantities (or even Nintendo with something like Xenoblade) I rarely find the need to preorder.

I figure a game is worth pre-ordering if...

1. It will offer hundreds of hours of gameplay (sandbox/GTA or deep RPG/Demon's Souls)

2. It offers excellent online (ex Battlefield)

3. Exceptional pedigree (ex Zelda/Uncharted/Halo) and the development process is well documented and looks good.

4. Solid Studio (ex That Game Company) that has met or exceeded expectations every outing.

Those are my criteria for pre-ordering. I'll wait for anything else.

until we get the retort article of:

"why preordering games is a good idea"

On this site, you cant have one view without someone posting another soon after.

There has to be some balance in the world.

I will pre-order anything I know I want to get day 1. Or titles that tend to have limited releases, such as NIS, Atlus, or XSeed games which can be hard to find down the road sometimes. Other than that there is no real point to it.

Pre-order bonuses are sometimes cool, but nowadays so many of them are digital which gives me very little incentive to pre-order. I like the ones with mini artbooks or soundtracks, but even then only if it's a game I'd buy day 1.

I wonder if/when Gamestop will stop accepting trade-ins for Aliens: Colonial Marines because there's no possible profit margin for it.

My Collector's Edition is still in transit, and I'm starting to get cold feet. I just don't want to end up seeing copies (of the collector's edition) drop the way it did for Duke Nukem Forever and/or Killzone 3. I'm still reeling from those.

PS: Yes, I was crazy enough to buy Duke Nukem Forever XD

wita4845d ago

I refuse to preorder, no matter how nice the perks are.

barefootgamer4845d ago

I tend to pre-order games I'm very excited about (like BioShock Infinite). Otherwise, I agree it's best to wait a bit and grab games when they come down in price.

Jazz41084845d ago

I know i will be preordering my new xbox and ps4. Thats usually a safe bet and as far as games go if you like the game then more power to you.

fluffydelusions4845d ago

If I'm buying day 1 anyway I don't see what it could hurt
