"An illuminated panel along the top can change colour and behaves just like a Move controller, a development source has told CVG. Combined with the same gyro and velocity sensors introduced with the PlayStation 3's Sixaxis, the PS4 pad is said to be an "enhanced motion control device"."

Okay - if I'm reading this correctly, this controller honors the past while also embracing the future. Call me crazy, but I'm extremely anticipating seeing how it works. This sounds like Sony's philosophy entirely wrapped up in a controller.

MaxXAttaxX4823d ago

""you'll notice that the PS4 d-pad has seemingly been redesigned to more closely resemble that of the PS Vita's own version - excellent news for fans of fighting games""

Music to my ears!

Nice controller-picture

Reverent4823d ago

Agreed. While that particular picture was just a concept mock-up, I think it will very closely resemble the final product because it maintains the same look as the PS4 controller prototype, while also looking much more polished. Personally, I think the controller will be amazing.

akaakaaka4823d ago

Sixaxis was cool, it was just a option to play the game in a different way if you wanted to try and this seem to be going the same route and that is cool..

Just_The_Truth4823d ago

The share idea seem awesome. It's a guarantee now that the reveals coming on the 20th so we'll see.

kungfuian4823d ago (Edited 4823d ago )

The dev station pics really makes me think they're shooting for the sky. The move light bar on the controller and two cameras (clearly visible on the dev kit) could be used for this.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Only the view would change when you move the controller (verses glasses like in the video).

Based on it's inclusion out of the box we could see these type of effect possible in every game as default, with no sacrifice to traditional control methods. This tech has the potential to significantly enhances your immersion in the game world and offers a very cool 3d effect with no need for 3d glasses or tv!

Even better imagine it used in tandem with 3d glasses and you have a 'holographic effect' which was eluded to by a sony exec more than a year ago (can't find article) :-)

http://www.extremetech.com/...

The PS4 has to AMAZE us and what better way to do that than to be the first to market with 3d (3d effects)on any tv, and HOLOGRAMS (holographic effects) for those with 3d tvs!

miyamoto4822d ago (Edited 4822d ago )

man, that controller is basically a PS Vita w/o the OLED screen and back touch pad.

I like the fact that it looks like you have a built in trackpad for precision movements, and/ or a built in Move should you choose. I'm not a fan of peripherals, but I don't mind features if they're integrated into a form factor that I already use and enjoy.

Let's be honest, Move was the most precise of the 3 motion types, but also between the Wii and Kinect for being finicky to set up. If they nail the precision without some weird camera setup (super wide lens maybe?) then this could be crazy fun to play with.

Edit: The headphone jack and potential built in mic are also pretty cool.

hazardman4823d ago

The controller looks sick, I like everything about it. I like that Sony is intergrating move connectivity with it. I don't like sex toys man..
The analog sticks got a nice look to them....the controller is nice tho, it got a great quality look to them.

GribbleGrunger4823d ago

The more I look at these pictures the more I realise that those analogue sticks are NOT 'concave' They are rounded with an extra lip around the edge.

RevXM4823d ago

Yes you are right, there was an article earlier that stated this also and I believe you are right.

Well well, we will get to know a lot on the 20th. five freakin days from now.

jalen2474823d ago (Edited 4823d ago )

Yes. The analog sticks look like the top of the Vita's analog sticks.

The d-pad also looks like the one on the Vita.

The best case scenario for me is that the PS4 controller was like the controller in the article picture and was able to split in two.

To me that would be best of all worlds (dualshock, move, vita) and everyone would be satisfied.

miyamoto4822d ago

yeah Games Radar and many media are at it again. saying the concave is a copy of the 360 controller.

Hanso4823d ago

I heard we can even plug our earphones in!
NOW THATS AWESOME

Just_The_Truth4823d ago

If that's true they have really learned from the past. If its as easy as grabbing my iPhone headphone and plugging them in I see the community really expanding. That one thing I like about Xbox Live.

Lucreto4823d ago

If it did this when being turned on I would be happy

http://i.imgur.com/I0Q3KPD....

RevXM4823d ago

yeah that would be real neat. touch access to some stuff on the controller.

Browse and control music withouth pausing the game and lots of other things could be avalable and display through the controller at any given time... yup that would be nice.

Pintheshadows4823d ago (Edited 4823d ago )

Touch pad for cursor control on a revamped browser would be good. It looks a little chunkier as well which is welcome.

The new d-pad looks nice as well.

Qrphe4823d ago

Except that it seems it won't be a touchscreen but a touchpad from what they tell us (although a point against this would be taken on a touchpad being glossy and not matte).

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy854d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele3d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk3d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay3d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon1014d ago (Edited 4d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit3d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg3d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon1013d ago (Edited 3d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz1493d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle16d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit16d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog17d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog17d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad17d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_17d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage17d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda16d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
