GameVortex - DmC: Devil May Cry Review

GameVortex - I never understood the fan backlash against Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry. Sure, it's a reboot, but it's of a franchise that has been wildly inconsistent, at least in my opinion. The first game (which started life as a Resident Evil project) was something of a watershed moment for the action genre. It combined the puzzles and gothic environments of Resident Evil with a stylish and wicked-fast combat system.

Insulting the people who disliked the game? Check
Insulting the previous games? Check

Completely missing the point? Check, check and check

What's missing from DmC is the challenging combat (now easy to the point of being patronizing) and the entertaining characters (now completely unlikeable and flat). DmC has, opposite of what was advertised, terrible writing and plot which doesn't work at all. Granted, the original games' writing wasn't something exquisite, but it was lighthearted and a lot of fun.DmC's gameplay not only lacks challenging combat, but is full of other annoyances, such as no lock-on, tedious platforming, constant interruptions by boring cutscenes, etc., etc.

And yeah, I understand that some people might prefer the easy combat and might even like the story and characters. But those people should also understand that there are people who like the opposite and therefore don't like DmC. People who liked DmC bought it, people who didn't like it didn't buy it. And the results are in.

It’s been sitting in my backlog for a while now. One of the first games I wanted to try for this current gen due to the long load times of previous gen. I’ll get around to it soon!

One of the best, stylish, and fun action slasher on the system. You definitely should get to it, as soon as you can.

they are taking way too much time with DMC6...

The DMC5 team went on to make Dragons Dogma 2, the DMC director (3,4,5) left capcom to make an action game at another studio and the rumor is that a DMC remake is next...so i wouldn't hold my breath on DMC6.
