Crytek on developing next-gen games now

Crytek is ready to show off what it can do on next-generation platforms, says studio boss Cevat Yerli. As the game industry holds its breath for the arrival of PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox, Crytek believes that its CryEngine 3 represents a glimpse of what’s next – and what’s next is already taking place on high-end PCs.

Until Source 2 comes out alongside Half Life 3 and destroys every engine out there.

Leave it alone, Crytek.

Seriously.

You make above average games, your tech is nowhere near as easy to use or widespread as UE4, or as impressive or intricate as Frostbite.

Really?

The problem isnt how easy or hard use the Engine its the Cost

turgore4842d ago

None of them hold a candle to Luminous engine.

@Zechs34

You can't be serious when you mentioned Cryengine being hard to use and Unreal Engine being easy. I distinctly remember myself making islands full of vegetation and enemies on screen more than five years ago, with no practice or an education. I tried that with unreal engine and my brain just went "derp"

Pure bunk.

We don't know what the Source 2 engine will be capable of or how it will compare to other top engines.

Second of all, nobody said that Crytek's engine was in as wide as use as Unreal 3 engine (or Unreal 4 engine will likely be).

Lastly, Crysis 2 looks much better to my eyes than Battlefield 3. I have both of them absolutely maxed out and Crysis 2 looks quite a bit better. Especially in terms of textures and lighting/shadowing quality.

Crysis 3 will probably blow away Battlefield 3.

Pfft I wish Half Life 3 was coming. It has been far too long since I have heard anything of the sort other than pure rumors.

Quite a disappointment. No idea what Valve is thinking.

I really want to see a Crysis 4 with all the ray-tracing & path-tracing effects. It would be a shame if they canceled the project. Maybe they could do a kickstarter?

DF
" Crysis is something of a tentpole game series for us at Digital Foundry, with a reputation for being an early adopter of graphics technologies that would later define entire generations of PC and console video games. That includes the likes of screen-space ambient occlusion, sub-surface scattering and ray-marched volumetric lighting, but you could write volumes about just how ground-breaking that first game was "

I really hope they come out and push the industry forward like they used to. I miss old crytek

PrinceOfAnger447d ago

They all look disappointed by this news especially Alex

Pretty sad that the studio that gave us a monumental game like Crysis is now subsisting on microtransactions from a live service PVPVE game.

Crysis 4 put "on hold" as developer Crytek is next studio hit by layoffs

Crysis developer Crytek is the next studio hit by layoffs, as it announces it's set to lose an estimated 15 percent of its 400 employees.

RaidenBlack455d ago

Why'd the day start with such sad gaming news?
Absolutely disheartening.

Jingsing455d ago

Maybe putting The Power Rangers in Hunt Showdown will get you some money back. (sarcasm)

Kassanova07455d ago

I'm always rooting for Crytek.

P_Bomb454d ago

I’m rooting for Crysis. Hope they work it out.
