Blame Microsoft for Rayman Legends' delay

The delay of Wii U Rayman Legends which arrived with a decision to bring the game to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 wasn't entirely under Ubisoft's control.

So much rage from Nintendo fans.

fermcr4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

Same thing happened with the release of GTA4. It was ready for the X360 but Rockstar delayed it for 6 months because the PS3 version wasn't ready.

If i had a WiiU I would probably be pissed at Ubisoft, but from a business standpoint, it makes sense to release it at the same time in various platforms. Ubisoft learned their lesson with the poor sales of ZombieU.

CGI-Quality4847d ago

Have you got anything to prove that about GTA IV? Because, to be frank, that sounds like a lie.

omi25p4847d ago

Rockstar did confirm it. But to be fair to sony and rockstar. The Ps3 was a new high tech piece of kit so it would of taken some getting used too. Also it came out a year later so was probably behind in development.

fermcr4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

@CGI-Quality

Instead of calling it a lie, move your lazy **** and look for it in google. Here is one article and I'm sure you can find many more.

They can have games first, but won't allow others to do the same.
It's their (b*tch) policy.

I'm mad about this decision, ubisoft and ea and activision if u keep giving 360 preferential treatment then the game industry will just fail the 360 couldnt keep 3rd partys alive on its own so why all these rules ???? developers and publishers need to stand up and say hey Microsoft we can make more money if we give everyone the same END OF.

Because in the end publishers will go bust and Nintendo will just survive off 1st and 2nd party with the odd 3rd party callaboration thrown in.

Jobesy4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

Why don't you be mad at Nintendo for starving it's Wiiu early adopters of good games? Face it, if Nintendo had more decent games releasing now and in the coming weeks people wouldn't be mad about Rayman Legends. Ubi gave you guys Zombieu and AC3 already, must they be responsible for giving Wiiu gamers more games while there's nothing else to play? How about Nintendo step up and start releasing more games?

But no, go ahead and be mad at a 3rd party publisher, cause that makes sense...

LOL_WUT4847d ago

@ Jobesy Well said. ;)

This would've been a non issue if Nintendo would've had tons of games to choose from since launch up until now. But, since Nintendo wanted to get the upper hand on the competition it backfired on them, and now they have a drought of games and fans who are left out crying over ONE game.

One game who I doubt they wouldn't even given a damn about, if wasn't for the lackluster of ip's they have on the Wii U.

pikey4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

I couldnt give a shit if all the platforms get it or its exclusivity. Why i am mad is because when it was a wiiU launch title i pre-ordered it. It was then delayed. So i took it off pre-order and ordered something else, no big deal. Then they say its coming february so i pre-order it again because i was looking forward to it, regardless of platform. 2 weeks before its release, when its known that its finished and ready to go, they delay it for another 6 months. Not because its not finished, not because they need to polish, not because it's buggy, but merely because they wanna launch it for all three at the same time. Yes, its a business and its thier business decision based on whatever reasoning to perhaps make more money off of it, which is fine and dandy.

My frustration is im tired of being jerked around. It's for sale, it's not for sale, it's for sale its not for sale. So, simply, i've now lost interest in it at this point.

Nothing to to do with nintendo, lack of games for wiiU, some kind of misguided fanboy jackass rage that it SHOULD BE AND REMAIN NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE!!!!! or any other bullshit reason some of you wanna throw out there as to why some people are angry at this. Quite simply theyre jerking customers around and its maddening.

FamilyGuy4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

Bad memories about ff13 just surfaced
goes multiplat
release date pushed back for simultaneous release
content cut to fit 360s dvd storage size disc

MS have been nothing but a nuisance to non-xbox gamers as well as to some xbox gamers too.
Their business practices are ANNOYING!

timed exclusives
timed dlc
exclusive 360 only content.

HarryMasonHerpderp4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

PS3 has a lot of exclusive content but I agree the timed exclusives and timed DLC from Microsoft is very annoying and just a cheap way to compete with their rivals.

StraightPath4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

In an alternative world where FF13 remained exclusive I can imagine PS3 fanboys deperately trying to defend thier exlusive game even though if it turned out to be a huge dissapointment which we know it end up being.

Xbox 360 had nothing to do with it being a poor Final Fantasy game, you can blame that to Square Enix with the game design and direction they went with it.

I mean with the cut content Square Enix mentioned such areas as a secret snow base, dungeons , park and a zoo do you honestly think this would magically turn a poor game into a good game?

I think Square Enix just wanted to point fingers with the poor reception they got from fans and critics alike. End of the day they agreed to Microsofts deal and what company would happily agree to a deal where it would require to downgrade their game?

Throughout development Square Enix mentioned it had no effect on the PS3 version and was pretty much nearing completion it was just a matter of being ported.

Later on FF13-2 and upcoming FF13-3 these so called restrictions are unheard of. Xbox 360 version was announced very late in development and this announcment do your really think you would of got somthing different from what we played? PS3 fans think they would of got a different game if it wasnt for the Xbox 360 and that is just pure bullshit.

Your are delusional if you really think Xbox 360 was the reason that FF13 turned out being poor. It was destined to be poor with the game design they went with. Regradeless if it were a PS3 exclusive or not. Very old and outdate excuse the PS3 fanboys seem to use and believe.

On topic, this article is just a unknown nerd voicing is blogger opinion that no one cares about. You can blame ubisoft for this and no one else.

TheTwelve4847d ago

This happened with FF13 and with DMC4, and who knows how many other games. But these two bothered me. Microsoft money has muscles that can annoy at times.

kenshiro1004847d ago

I doubt that FFXIII would have been a bad game if it remained exclusive. The fact that content was cut and the game was split into FFXIII-2 and Lightning's Return (or whatever the hell they're calling them now)...one has to wonder what did happen between Microsoft and Square.

FamilyGuy4847d ago

More areas to explore and more side quest were EXACTLY the things that held FF13 back. It had a great battle system, astonishing graphics and when you got to the most open area in the game it was beautiful, fun and full of life. The wildlife fighting amongst itself was amazing and the entire game could have been more like that had the 360 version not held it back.

You're the delusional one thinking those things didnt matter, I doubt you even play RPGs. The release date being pushed back was a huge kick in the nuts as well, JUST LIKE IT IS HERE.

You try to claim others as fan boys with a poor argument to back your case, what a waste of time.

i don't own Wii U and i don't think i will get one any time soon
but
i would blame ubisoft first
if the game is ready ...launch it on WiiU
and should not waited till ps3/360 version are ready

but i think every one knew about Microsoft Policies on Software Distribution
ubisoft can't play victim here
they knew about Microsoft Policies
and agreed with it..they are the one who get blame here and ever 3rd party studio who do the same

Kevlar0094847d ago

I agree completely. It was Ubisoft who made the decision to have it on three consoles instead of most likely two. MS said take it or leave it and they decided to take it. They put money over integrity with this. From a business standpoint it makes some sense (why release it around GTA/Nintendo 1st party again?), but from a moral point it is disgusting

Ubisoft is just reinforcing MS's policy. If every developer just said "fine we won't release it on 360" then the policy would die out. Sadly with how the industry is every dollar counts.

I also want to give a shout out to the developers of Rayman Legends, they worked their asses off for several months to make this game perfect for the WiiU as soon as possible. They are the true victims here, not only could they have possibly had more time with friends and family with a longer development period, but they were lead to believe it was required to get the game out 7 months before it actually is to be released

demonddel4847d ago

Man you kids make me sick those companies don't spend there money to not make a profit a moral standpoint u sound stupid no company does that

givemeshelter4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

This is a business. When games cost upwards and more of the 10+ million mark, these developers MUST release those games on as many formats as possible to ensure a decent ROI or in some cases just to break even.
Take a look at how many software houses this generation alone went chapter 11 because they released their games on one or two systems only and could not recoup their costs let alone make a profit?
Business is business folks and this is also why many developers have went the indie development route. One big title not selling can mean the end of that company. Developers of LAIR, THQ...The list goes on.

Edit:
Ha Ha... I get disagrees for stating Economics. Business 101 about ANY industry. Only on N4G.COM
where truth is Science Fiction to many LOL

rpd1234847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

Morals mean absolutely nothing to anyone in the business world. If you think that Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft actually give a shit about the people who use their products, you're wrong. The developers and certain people within each company probably do, but the companies exist to generate profit. They want to make money. If Ubisoft can do that by releasing it on 3 consoles instead of one, then they're going to do it.

lelo4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

ZombieU had poor sales, so Ubisoft is smart to release Rayman Legends in various platforms.

Starfox174847d ago

Zombiu has sold well compared to a typical 3rd party 360 game ????

treesmurf114847d ago

Even if ZombiU didn't sell well (which I'm fairly sure it did) that'd most likely be down to the stupid rrp and not the Wii U. With Rayman having a more reasonable price though I would have expected it to fly off the shelves, it was most Wii U owners most wanted but now many will completely ignore it because of both the delay and the fact it will launch alongside GTA, etc.

DOMination-4847d ago

Motorstorm also sold very well (even though sequels struggled to even get half a million sales). The reason being that there is never a large amount of choice at launch for consoles. A lot of people would have purchased the game regardless of quality because they probably already played the other games on other formats.

MasterCornholio4847d ago (Edited 4847d ago )

"It seemed so strange for Ubisoft to delay what was a big Wii U exclusive until September, especially when said game is confirmed to have been finished and practically ready to ship on Wii U."

Yep the game was on time but Microsofts release policy delayed it.

t3gamenews4847d ago

why delay a game flr us wii u users just to put it on last gen hardware, last gen they wouldjt have delayed a 360/ps3 game to be put on wii, dont think they would even do that for wii u. do you see gta 5 being delayed for wii u?

IAMERROR4847d ago

Here's an idea, stop finding people/companies to blame and deal with it.

your right, everyone should bend over, lube up and prepare for the corporate cock as you've done your entire existence..

don't blame greed infested companies, just hang yourself xoxoxo.

LMAO a little extreme? What I meant is that there's no way it's changing so no use of pointing the finger at multiple things.

It's a release date for a piece of plastic, chill lol

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio18d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing18d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit18d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing18d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9218d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn221d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn220d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown20d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay20d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay20d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac20d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger21d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300021d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde21d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde20d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

A good start would be to release games to go with the console. My Xbox Series X has gathered dust virtually from launch. My advice would be to ditch a next console and release games on PC, PlayStation and Switch. Another idea would be a hybrid console based on Xbox Series X tech and go the same route as Nintendo. Another idea would be to pull out of gaming altogether. Plenty of options there.

Reaper22_19d ago

Why would they pull out? They have the momentum. Sony has been getting nothing but bad news lately.
