DICE: Questioning David Cage | IGN

Casey Lynch: ''As the sun set on the rusted haze of the Las Vegas skyline, the first day of DICE 2013 came to a close. All day long, leaders, pioneers and mavericks from the interactive entertainment industry took to the stage – then to the barstools – to discuss what’s next in video games.

We sat down with David Cage, CEO of Quantic Dream, to talk about the future of the business and more. Here’s what he told IGN.''

- On rumors that next-gen consoles won’t play used games

'Maybe it is, maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s more about explaining and about telling people who really love games that if they buy used games, there will be a day where there won’t be any new games at all.'

Boo hoo. You won't get to spend all day motion capturing your 'actors' instead of actually making a game. Well, that's really sad.

-On how much games cost

'Games are probably too expensive right now. I hope to see the price points decrease quickly on the next gen cycle. This is also a difficult situation because I see the game budgets get higher and higher because we’re trying to make better games, and the production value gets higher and higher. This is why they take more money to be made.'

More like you're trying to make games that aren't games. You want to make a game that is like a film, but don't have the expertise to do either. That's why it's so expensive, and also why the gaming industry is suffering in some areas, trying to be something you are not.

That's how I read it. Let me know how you read it. I will get disagreed with to high heaven, but that's how I feel on David Cage.

Persistantthug4831d ago

Seems like a Halloween type game release to me.

SAE4830d ago

''Beyond is almost in beta. It will come out this year and the release date will be announced soon.''

Good_Guy_Jamal4831d ago

You and me both brother. I cannot stand people wanting to push their agenda onto the rest of us. You like interactive movies, great for you, but don't try shove it down all our throats and complain the game industry needs to be more like you and make point and click games only.
You do you David Cage. I'll stick to my "childish" Rayman/Mario games and violent Bad Company 2

xursz4830d ago

Well you guys went to pretty extreme lengths to bash the guy. He has no say in whether or not newer systems would block used games sales.

SAE4831d ago

You don't like what he made because it's not your type of games. It is a game because you controle it. It just focus on story more then gameplay. He is good at what he is making so i wouldn't bash that ^^ .

I hate cars and i don't see why people play them but i would never say GT5/Forza..etc sucks. They work on these games really hard so i respect them . I hope you do the same for heavy rain developers . It's not like they are doing something wrong..

jay24831d ago

!!!!!!!!!!!!! Daivd's confirmed PS4 development! Awesome Singularity's going to be it's home! sorry David you shouldn't have said

'We are really committed to work on PlayStation 3 and the FUTURE CONSOLE!' Shot yourself in the foot there bud.

Ever since Heavy Rain, I've been supporting Quantic Dream. They put heart and soul into their work and create art.

That art might not be for everyone, but it's polished, well designed and engaging for those that enjoy it.

Dirty_Lemons456d ago

I bought Heavy Rain just to play on my brother's PS3 each weekend, travelled home from uni just to finish it. What a great experience!

Cacabunga455d ago

Heavy Rain was a masterpiece and one of my top 3 best PS3 games.
Beyond was solid as well but not as good.
Elliot Page is nonsense 🤦🏻

DafunkyRebel455d ago

JASON JASONNNN yeah that was a great game, wish there was a proper remake

Relientk77456d ago

This is actually my favorite Quantic Dream game. I thought the story, supernatural stuff, and cast was great and super interesting. Hopefully the show will be good.

cthulhucultist455d ago

Same here, This one i liked the most. The variety in scenery and set pieces was refreshing and the supernatural aspect was well executed.

I am a bit biased however because I love all interactive movie like games

Heavy Rain was my favorite . Fahrenheit was great too

MadLad1258d ago

Eh.

Beyond Two Souls and Detroit were alright for the most part.
They're still making games, so something going decent for them.

Supermassive is definitely beating them in this genre though.

David Cage defends response to allegations of unhealthy studio culture at Quantic Dream

From Eurogamer: "David Cage has responded to allegations of unhealthy studio culture and inappropriate behaviour at Quantic Dream, which he previously described as a "smear campaign".

Published in this month's Edge Magazine, Cage discusses in depth the company culture of the studio and denies a lack of humility in its response to allegations.

"I don't think we had an aggressive attitude," he said. "When you're accused of things that go against everything you believe in, everything you've done in your life, it hurts. It went beyond just attacking the studio culture."

Hasn’t this been a story for years now ? Doesn’t seem like anything changed or they have some very upset workers who lie for a long time ? Seems like it isn’t the latter .

SegaSaturn6691360d ago

They should hire Kevin Spacey as a janitor. That would be awesome.

sourOG1360d ago

The people who use words like “unhealthy culture” are usually mentally ill themselves. Not saying it’s not true, just sayin.

MadLad1360d ago

Interesting comment to make ..

sourOG1360d ago

Lol just saying. The last person I want to hear about “healthy culture” from is the people who use those words. Ususlly some kind of identity theory-ism. Commie talk.

jartoon1360d ago

Okay... How would a mentally healthy person describe a shitty work environment?

sourOG1360d ago

Shitty work environment

sourOG1359d ago

I’m getting some disagrees so let me elaborate and try to change your mind.

Do you want to hear about healthy culture from people who celebrate fatness or put kids on puberty blockers as a few examples? That’s the kind of people who say shit like that and they are the most destructive force I’ve ever seen in my life when it comes to culture. Easily.

When you say culture what do you mean? The very core, right? The soul. QD is rotten to the very core and it needs to be replaced. With what? Ask whoever is using that term. I’m sure they have an idea. And I’d bet money their idea of healthy culture is ass backwards and not profitable lol.

Another example. I just saw a Kellogg ad that said “Food Justice for black communities”. They think they can trigger black folks into buying cereal with words like justice lol. They might be right, who knows. I laugh at shit like that though because I see right through these idiots.

TLDR:
Some people use words to communicate. “Shitty work environment”

Some people use words to manipulate. “Unhealthy culture” “Food justice”

Sites like Kotaku have been crapping on Cage for a long time now, to the point where I'm suspicious of if he has earned the bad rep he has. Go read Kotaku's review of Detroit, I recall it being borderline unprofessional.
