so many lame-uninformed-blinded-by-a-m isplaced-rage fanboys THIS IS NOT A REBOOT!!!! capcom allowed ninja theory to make their own take on the dmc series capcom said ages ago that we are still getting a dmc5 which they are working on. I bought this game yesterday and love it!(i am a hardcore dmc fan i've played them all)

"capcom allowed ninja theory to make their own take on the dmc series"

Isnt that a reboot?

Godmars2904852d ago

Look Sunny Jim, hate on the haters all you want but its not going to make them buy what they don't want.

So this might mean the end or just the hiatus for the series. Either alternative is better than something that bears its name that's been toned down.

RuperttheBear4852d ago

It's Sonny Jim, not Sunny Jim.

Lol, sorry but that bugged me for some reason.

DmC wasn't simpy Ninja Theory's take on Devil May Cry, Capcom was legitimately trying to start it over. The initial designs for Dante looked like the original Dante, but Capcom wanted something dramatically different. Not only did Capcom tell them to change Dantes design, but they assisted Ninja Theory with the gameplay engine, when they were having difficulties during development.

Since the original creator is at Platinum Games, Capcom took the opportunity to take liberties with the Devil May Cry series. It's evident they looked at the most popular DMC game (DMC 3) and tried to recreate it in a new way. Unfortunately, Capcom (of Japan) is not a company who takes consideration in their fan-base.

Capcom has no plans for Devil May Cry 5 for the time being.

DragonKnight4852d ago

Erudito87: There is no misplaced rage. Fans of the Devil May Cry franchise were given a big middle finger and a big F-You from NT and Capcom. We spoke our concerns, they spat in our faces, and the sales are proving that we're sticking to our word not to purchase a bastardization of a franchise that we love. Moving on from that, DMC5 is not coming. That would be suicide for Capcom. All Capcom hinted at was that they MAY take the older franchise ahead in the future, but they never said they were making DMC5 and they won't be making it. To make DMC5 would be to undermined their position with DmC and alienate the new casual fans they made. That translates to a lot of dollars and so it's not going to happen. What's likely to happen is either the complete end of the franchise, or a long hiatus until people forget and then a new reboot.

zerocrossing4852d ago

When did Capcom say they are working on DMC5? I certainly can't find any conformation of that.

Anyway, so what your saying is, the core fans should have bought DmC even though they dislike the "REBOOT"... Sorry, NT's "retelling" of DMC?

Hah! Hell no, as far as many people are concerned the success of DmC would have lamented the death of the original franchise, so they voted with their wallets and if Capcom still have any sense left they'll either take the DMC reboot back to the drawing board, or finally get around to giving us the yet to be announced DMC5.

If you love it great, good for you but don't say other people are blind raged fanboys when were not

"To avoid spoilers completely, his brother Virgil as well was nothing like the original creation. The brutal difficulty of combat, which had long been a staple of the series, was mostly gone. The usual quirky and often cheesy humour had been replaced with teenage-style, crude sexual themes and angst profanity. On top of that, Ninja Theory also sort of showed fans the finger during the opening sequence of the game where a white mop falls on Dante’s head, to make him bear the same appearance as before, and he arrogantly dismisses it after a few seconds glance"

Wow this guy actually gets it

Not a single "We hate it because of the hair" crap

Godmars2904852d ago

Who are you quoting? Context would help.

Root4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

Who am I quoting...the guy in the article

I'm just saying he's done a good job instead of going with the "It's about the hair" line

Maybe I should of separated it from the reply to the guy above. Sorry

Nerdmaster4851d ago

The part about the mop shows how the old DMC fans are butthurt. It was just a joke, a reference to the past games, but old fans take it as "Ninja Theory giving the finger".

Angered fans are going to vote with their wallet, and quite rightly they did just that.

Honestly, people make out like NT aren't at all to blame for DmC selling poorly, take the core fans out of the equation and there are still a heck of a lot of gamers out there that could have bought DmC but they simply chose not too.

DragonKnight4852d ago

Critics have always praised NT but they are a below average developer with delusions of grandeur who spend too much time and money on motion capturing. This game was a failed venture from the get go.

Root4852d ago

It's like they want to be NaughtyDog

zerocrossing4852d ago (Edited 4852d ago )

@DragonKnight

I know right? It's like everyone gives NT a free pass because they are a small dev team.

If NT wants any respect from gamers they better start making some decent games to earn it (apart from Heavenly Sword which I really did enjoy) and stop acting like arrogant, self entitled bellends, content with p*****g of the majority of their potential consumer base.

Diffraction_Fos4852d ago

If you're going to make unpopular changes, then you can't whine when you get undesired results. Capcom took a gamble with the franchise, ignored their core fans, and it currently looks like it's not paying off. They only have themselves to blame.

Root4852d ago

", they had the creative confidence to stick with what they made in the face of all adversity and pressure."

But they didn't

They changed Dantes facial look more in the final game and then they added the references to the Old Dante and unlock able costumes like Classic Dante with him having white hair

They we're s*** scared in my opinion

wishingW3L4852d ago

they added jump cancels at the last minute too, that's why it was so badly implemented.

RNTody4852d ago

True, and as the writer of the article, you do make a valuable point =) I just felt that there were a lot of things they could have conceded on, and unlike BioWare, they didn't basically redo/undo everything and have absolutely zero spine. I can believe that they were scared as well, it was a mountain of pressure to deal with, but they did see it through, and whether the game was great or not, there is a bit of merit in that :)

franwex399d ago

It’s been sitting in my backlog for a while now. One of the first games I wanted to try for this current gen due to the long load times of previous gen. I’ll get around to it soon!

One of the best, stylish, and fun action slasher on the system. You definitely should get to it, as soon as you can.

solideagle398d ago

they are taking way too much time with DMC6...

VersusDMC398d ago

The DMC5 team went on to make Dragons Dogma 2, the DMC director (3,4,5) left capcom to make an action game at another studio and the rumor is that a DMC remake is next...so i wouldn't hold my breath on DMC6.

ZeekQuattro398d ago

Everytime its on sale I think about buying it but never do. I only played the orginal and somr of 3 so I guess that's part of it.
