Pocket Gamer - Super Skull Smash GO Review

Pocket Gamer - Super Skull Smash GO! boasts such a convincing retro aesthetic that you might find yourself wondering whether's it's been cunningly recycled from the days of the ZX Spectrum.

However, this is very much a modern game, despite what the occasionally rough design might suggest.

What’s Worth Keeping…on the Microsoft Xbox?

DHGF: As a reminder to those that missed the previous column, the attempt is to pare my collection down to a maximum of twenty games per system – leaving me with only the games I will enjoy the most as middle age and then eventually incontinence and senility set in. This column we’ll be looking at the Microsoft Xbox and turning things on its head. You see as much as I love my Xbox, I’ve only got nineteen games for it. This means we won’t just be trying to pare things down, but deciding if there is anything I could or should add to my collection based on my own personal tastes. Let’s see what happens.

They need more new core ip's & they need to stay consistent doing this through the consoles life span.

Twisted Pixel seems to be good at creating new IPs, I particularly liked The Maw and Gunstringer and would like to see sequels. Rare too - they released three new IPs this gen, that's more than pretty much any Sony studio.

"they released three new IPs this gen, that's more than pretty much any Sony studio"

Like what, Kinect Sports? Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Just stating the facts!

DigitalRaptor4767d ago (Edited 4767d ago )

True, but so could pretty much any Sony studio.

But would you want to be the ones to tell them to dilute the quality of games like Uncharted and The Last of Us to make games like Kinect Sports?

Twisted Pixel are great though, they make some awesome little games.

But I thought making new IPs was the holy grail?!

strickers4767d ago

Sony Santa Monica says hi. Collaborations with small devs to produce many games . Mostly new IP. Rare are also producing shite games.

DigitalRaptor4766d ago (Edited 4766d ago )

"The holy grail"

They are important, yes. A new generation should be defined by its original IPs, and a console should be defined by its exclusive games, many of which should be new IPs.

However, new IPs don't all have to be from a single studio. Naughty Dog don't need to make 3+ IPs in one generation to be relevant, when exists: Santa Monica, Evolution Studios, Ready at Dawn, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, Quantic Dream, Japan Studio, Team Ico, Idol Minds, Giant Sparrow, Sanzaru Games, Tarsier Studios, Supermassive Games, Sony Online Entertainment, Guerilla Games, San Diego Studios, London Studio et cetera.

And before you mention sequelitis, most of these studios have new IPs in the works.

from the beach4766d ago

You don't do your argument any favours by listing Sony-owned studios - Microsoft has more.

And the idea that any game SSM helped out with behind the scenes is a new SSM IP is hilarious. Rare perform a similar role by the way.

That's not really what this topic is about. If you read the article the author wants to know which 20 titles he should keep from the original Xbox. I myself would only play about 6-10 games that were only on the Xbox again. Of course you have your classics like the first Halo but I also enjoyed some others like Crimson Skies and Mechassault. But those 2 games were more fun online.

ltachiUchiha4767d ago

Yup my bad, I misread it.

Jek_Porkins4767d ago

Keep everything? Not sure why people are so fast to get rid of games they spent so much money on. I still have all of mine on every console.

francknara64767d ago

Keep the console. Add games.

josephayal4767d ago

Both consoles occupied the exact same space in the video game scene

DigitalRaptor4767d ago (Edited 4767d ago )

Are you talking about Xbox and PS2?

There was GameCube and Dreamcast too, remember?

gamertk4214767d ago

Burnout 3, Darkwatch, Killswitch, Jade Empire, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Indigo Prophecy, SW: Jedi Academy, SW: Republic Commando, Black, Shenmue 2 to name a few.
