2K's Levine unconcerned by acquisition talks

2K Boston's creative director Ken Levine isn't concerned about acquisitions, as he believes it is all about development talent.

"If the people with the money don't realise that the people with the talent are critical to what they do, then the people with the talent will go elsewhere," he told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview during last week's GDC.

All nice and good... but, when the people with the money hold the major license that the other people with the money "The gamers/consumers" want... Then what good are those talents?

For instance... who the hell wants a baseball game without the offical license? Who wants an NFL game without it? Who wants any sports game, besides wrestling without an offical license on it?

no one... EA has the majority of "offical" license in this business. I hate that fact, but without an offical license, you're games are going to flop. < this, of course, is speaking on behalf of just sports games.

Sure talent can go elsewhere... but if they don't have a good IP and backer then they're going to fail. I'm against the take over, but there is nothing anyone can do at this point, but not buy EA games. Like me.

The thing that really gets me is Sony doesn't even care that the fox gaming license rest in EA's hands. That bothers me. Sony should be working to aquire something back. The Simpsons is a huge property to have and to only be able to have that on a sony console, since Fox is in their movie division... It'd be gold.

The industry let a select group have too many intellectual properties, so they have themselves to blame at the end of the day.

Let me just say this... I'd hate to be in a heated game of Monoply and look across the table to see your opponets are

Microsoft
EA
&
Ubisoft

All I gotta say.

I disagree, just to list a few good new IP's: BioShock, Gears of War, Uncharted, Mass Effect, Resistance, Too Human, Geometry Wars, Everyday Shooter, The Dishwasher... Ken is right, it's all about talent... unless you like boring sports games with $60 annual roster updates... but as far as the rest of the gaming world is concerned, talent is key.

Oh, and Fox is not part of Sony they simply helped back blu-ray... two totally different companies.
