DmC: Devil May Cry Review | Machinima

Machinima: "The familiarity of the controls in combat help in welcoming DmC's distinctive art direction and new look for Dante. The attention paid to the script and narrative manages to make these intermissions worth watching, and not because of over-the-top gunplay or sword work; that's for you to control in-game."

Uh-oh...another glowing review. Conspiracy theorists at the ready...

...can't wait to pick up my copy tomorrow!

smashcrashbash4875d ago

Yeah another 'fake' review. It's amazing how many 'fake' reviews there are about this game. More then any 'fake' reviews I have ever seen.Look below how many more 'fake' good reviews below this article.Four whole 'fake' reviews for us and this makes five plus 'fake' reviews. Even the executioner of games, Edge, gave it an 8 who everyone claims they trust. But don't worry someone will give it a 7 and be their new hero. I however have given up.DMC is obviously better then the demo was an people are in deep denial and obviously hope that if they keep this up Capcom will make DMC the way it was before. If it were a game everyone was supporting they would never have thought any of the reviews were fake or that the demo is a sign of how the final game will be.

Not many games have an average of 9/10. Nice to see the new year have a good start.

DragonKnight4875d ago

Alright, serious question time. When DmC has the same issues as Ninja Gaiden 3, can any of you explain a system that praises DmC and bashes NG3? And I mean without your obvious vitriol. I'm genuinely interested in your explanation.

sarshelyam4875d ago

NG3's problems are most definitely not DmC's problems (whatever those may be). NG3's "problems" are subjective on many fronts, but first and foremost it was about the path the story was taking, secondly it was about the path of least resistance, which I suppose I could see you drawing loose comparisons on here @DragonKnight, but again...two different games, each with their own design, flawed or otherwise.

I have no issue with DmC, I liked it just fine and I'm a long-running fan of the series. I have all my original releases on the PS2, and I repurchased them in the HD Collection for PS3. There's no way in hell this could be any worse than DMC2...which it isn't.

@sarshelyam: See, that's not exactly true. Ninja Gaiden 3 was bashed for things like changes to combat, Ryu removing his mask, poor story choices, a streamlined game. Those things are all present in DmC. Combat was made more accessible, that's a fact you can read about in any review. We know reviewers like easy games because easy games are always scored well and games like Dark Souls have all kinds of "it's too hard" comments. One video review even said that you can make it through relatively easily by button mashing, though you won't get as many points for it. Reviews against Ninja Gaiden 3 cited that it made concessions for the larger audience, and that's exactly what DmC did. You'll see in plenty of opinions and reviews that people thought DMC's combat was "too hard" to get into. So why is it ok for NG to have a hard combat system then get blasted for changing it, and DmC gets a pass for the same thing?

The story of DmC is, even at the best you could say about it, lacklustre and boring. We all know what the ending is like, and it pretty much is just a rewritten Enslaved plot. NG3's story was criticized, again, for being too streamlined and having a poor ending. We see that DmC doesn't have an original story, has a bad ending, and yet the game gets praise but NG3 doesn't.

The characters. Well in NG3 the biggest problem people had was when Ryu removed the mask. They saw it as an afront to the very basic aspect of Ninja Gaiden and the game was slammed for that. But it's ok to make Dante ugly, boorish, and a borderline slobby meth head? Why?

So we have two games that took the "larger audience approach." One game got slammed for making combat easier, the story more streamlined, and changing aspects of the main character. The other game, which did the exact same thing, is getting praise for that. I'm at a loss when it comes to that. Seriously.

@VileAndVicious: Umm, in DmC, aren't the enemy A.I.'s attack animations so slow that you can walk to the side to dodge them? Videos on youtube showed (before they were flagged) players barely trying against bosses and not getting hit once. So, in a sense, you have to try to die.

VileAndVicious4875d ago

umm in NG3...couldn't you like not die? Thought I read or saw a YouTube video about the main character auto dodging or something

VileAndVicious4875d ago

lol I find that a little hard to believe but I wonder what difficulty setting they were playing on. Even in the demo enemies in SOS were fairly aggressive not nearly as aggressive as DMC3 mind you but you certainly couldn't just stand in one place

DragonKnight4875d ago

I never said you could stand in one place. I said that the enemies in DmC have ridiculously slow attack animations and it's been noted that the only real difference between, say, human difficulty and SoS difficulty is that the A.I. finally performs their attacks at a more normal speed. The A.I. in DmC is pretty terrible and that would be in keeping with the "accessible" style of DmC.

Well, not to mention that Machinima is one with the most dev combo videos and dev interviews. Totally not biased pre-release vids. Just watch them on youtube.

I'm ecstatic with the reviews rolling in on this title. Despite my own hopes, it was getting me down reading countless comment after countless comment dooming, damning, and wishing this game into tanked sales. I'm glad to see the reviews are making those chronic complainers eat their words. Good job Capcom and NT. (Wonder how many disagrees I'll get ;3)

Sevir4875d ago

Like to believe they are entitled to everything! LOL This game is performing better than even I expected! I expected 8s with few 9s and a few 7s... The game has received a few perfects a plethora or 9s and 8 and about 4 7s... I'm really proud of Capcom for sticking to their guns! The haters in denial will prolly swallow their pride and buy the game at somepoint in the next month, while most everyone else will have beaten this and have unlocked the insane modes of difficulty it has to offer.

I cant wait for My Copy and ofcourse Virgil's Downfall DLC launch just a month later!

DragonKnight4875d ago

I won't buy this game. You can't count on Capcom never receiving a single penny of my money for casual games like DmC.

Elda4875d ago (Edited 4875d ago )

Absolutely!!.I'll be picking up my copy tomorrow....I've enjoyed playing all DMC games,my complaint with 2 was that it was extremely short but I enjoyed playing it & 4 was boring it didn't keep my interest & it took me 4 months to finish it 1 & 3 are the best!I always thought after 4 DMC needed a fresh coat of paint & NT did just that,I was intrigued when they first announced DmC,I bought the HD version just to keep me in the groove & now it's finally here!! I hope people that are buying DmC enjoy playing I know I will! AS for the haters some of you'll be dedicating your cash & time playing this game also,if not now...you will later, your hate is only love in denial!...LOL!

You sound like you’re just a ton of fun to be around.

franwex399d ago

It’s been sitting in my backlog for a while now. One of the first games I wanted to try for this current gen due to the long load times of previous gen. I’ll get around to it soon!

Zenzuu399d ago

One of the best, stylish, and fun action slasher on the system. You definitely should get to it, as soon as you can.

solideagle398d ago

they are taking way too much time with DMC6...

VersusDMC398d ago

The DMC5 team went on to make Dragons Dogma 2, the DMC director (3,4,5) left capcom to make an action game at another studio and the rumor is that a DMC remake is next...so i wouldn't hold my breath on DMC6.

ZeekQuattro398d ago

Everytime its on sale I think about buying it but never do. I only played the orginal and somr of 3 so I guess that's part of it.
