Glad to see my 360 get some loving. IMO, after COD4, Gears was the best shooter of 2K7. I hope the Nov 2008 release date is realistic and not a marketing strategy.

I find it amusing how everyone likes to paint this bleak dark picture about the 360 and games for 08 and 09, yet the 360 has sold more games and live has more users and more games avalible then the wii or ps3 combined. The PS3 only has KZ2 ( well , dont expect much from that game) , and MGS 4 ( one of the heavy hitters of this year) and a couple other games , cant remeber the names right now.
I think people were just too hyped up about the ps3 at the beggining of th year with the bluray victory and stuff but this year will be tighter than last year but I still think the 360 has the best softwear for this year.

I'll buy it day one. But honestly, there's a list of games im more excited about this year, and all of them are PS.

First off, doubt it'll 'save' the 360 for '08... as '08 won't need saving. Doesn't mean I think 360 will come out the clear winner (or even 'win') but it won't be a failure either.

Gears of War 2 will, more than likely, be the game I play most in late '08 and on--the original is still my most played 360 game in fact. But Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, and to a lesser extent Too Human are all games that I believe will do very well (Fable 2/Ninja Gaiden 2 specifically--both of the originals were two of the best games on the xbox). Several other console exclusives I'm looking forward to as well but not quite as much. Also, multiplatform sells should still be leaning towards 360 favor due to larger install base (once PS3 catchs up should level out fast).

PS3 has some great games coming out but I'm still more interested in Fable 2 and now GoW2 than anything that's actually been dated for the PS3 in terms of exclusives (multiplatform could likely steal the show though--GTA IV especially). As of now, Resistance 2 is probably my major PS3 game for '08 due to 2 full campaigns--love coop. I will however admit there are a a larger number of 'confirmed' exclusives for the PS3 that I'm genuinely interested in than for the 360 this year, its just I'm more interested in 360's singularly.

ok, lets say gta5 and metal gear come this year, thats 2 games, lbp is not this monster hit in disguise at least not to me, ff13 is 09, kz2 is a 50/50 toss, its not like kz1 and kz psp where good games.

so you have lbp, kz2(50/50 of being good or bad) mg4( a hit) and maybe gta5 which while a hit in itself is a driving game and thats a niche market, resistance2 and motorstorm(motorstorm 1 was not a hit so 2 is a toss.

thats 6 games and maybe 4 to 5 will appear for 08. and Rugludallur your dumb , does sony pay you.

Now if you think that those 5 games are destroying all of the 360'hits for 08 then your a fanboy or nothing more. theres too human,ng2,gears2 and about 4 more exclusives for 08.

gta4 is on both systems so i wont count it, it will do well no matter what on both systems. plus the 360 has the extra dlc exclusively. plus the 360 has xna for 08.

I was looking 360 line-up for 2008, as well PS3 line-up and the only thing I said was: Holy Christ! Man, this year we will spend at least 400$ in games.

Both platforms have a stellar 2008 line-up.

But I doubt that GOW2 will make Halo numbers, of course it will move consoles but not as much as Halo.

Sony has performed a magic trick called, "the incredible disappearing 2008"

This is going to be a very competitive holiday season and a very expensive one at that.

Gears 2 will do good but there is going to be a lot of other games coming out at the same time and right now I think we can't predict what will happen sales wise.

Gears 2 will move systems but until we hear more about what new they are adding to the game for me personally Resistance 2 is higher on the list since compared to the first one they are really uping the ante for their game.

It won't sell as much as halo 3, though I have NO doubt it'll be several times better in pretty much every aspect. If I worked for Epic and GeoW2 didn't outsell Halo 3 I'd be insulted, honestly, you can't even compare.

It is really quite funny how fanboys continue to make lists of exclusives coming out for their favorite system in 2008 while leaving out exclusives from their hated system

now, here's my two cents:
out of those xbox360 games i am pretty sure 3 of those are pc bound and as such not really exclusives per se...fable 2, halo wars and gears 2. (and haze is also a little hazy lol =D)
the rest of the list is accurate; it is of course missing games for every platform i just did a 5min research.
now i really don't give a crap about gears 2 selling 3 million or 6 or 9 THOUSAND! but since this thread has now developed into this, i just thought i could help making a real list of real exclusives

Gears2 will sell extremely well. Most of the hardcore shooter gamers have already picked up a 360 for Halo 3, Bioshock, CoD4 and Mass Effect. Most of them, if not all, will be buying Gears2 when it's released. Moving consoles, though, it MIGHT not be as good as Halo3 unless MS markets it heavily (which they will) but i don't think it will reach Halo 3 sales, but then again, it might.

gears one was ok,great graphics,i played a little but cant get used to the 360 controller(hurts my left thumb).i dont own a 360 never will but i wont bash it.its great for what it is and if u like great to but by far ps3 has the best line up.goty is mgs4 trust that.geow2 will sell in the millions though but that aint enough against ps3 line up.

I don't think that one title can save the 360 this year. I know that there are a few other games that may sell well but you have to say Sony has a much better line up. Gears will suffice the people who already have the 360 but it won't prolly sell more and thats the key right now.

Microsoft hasn't saved 2008 and will not until they admit their mistakes. They need a BluRay drive and a new HDMI chip that supports HD Audio. And they need a reliable unit with a silent fan. Until then, I'll keep splitting time between PS3 and Xbox 360. Sony will never get achievements and online right but MS can add Bluray and make it silent.

I totally agree that Gears 2 is the only must own exclusive on the 360 this year. It's going to be one hell of a game, and sell phenomenally maybe sell more copies than any other game this year with exception of gta4. NG2 also looks good, but the whole genre is not really that appealing, and is more of a rental than a must buy due to lack of online multiplayer.

If M$ didn't have this it wouldn't be much of a fight, but more of a slaughtering when compared to the amazing ps3 exclusive line up this year.

sony have already lost gt5 this yr its moved to 2009. i wont be suprised to see more. Xbox360 have more than 50 exclusives coming out this yr alone, so theres too many games to look forward to.

i honestly think one of the many mistakes microsoft made was taking one mediocre game like halo and hyping the unbelievable crap out of it and convinced everyone that it was the one and only best game out...it was a smart move obviously cuz if they didnt do that they wouldnt be where they're at...i believe gears of war is the next game that will get the same amount of hype...now in all honesty i think gears is a great game...not the best...i dont think the story is great and the main character has no character whatsoever but the game had solid and fun gameplay...the point im trying to make is...microsoft should've been making their library diverse instead of catering to one core audience...now you can say they have a diverse library but the majority are multiplatform..if they wouldve concentrated on making more and different great exclusives and hyping them up equally then things would look better for them cuz its kinda sad when i ask why should i play a 360 and all everyone can tell me is halo...kinda sad that you can name one game when i can name you tons of games to play on ps3

like i said before MS needs more than GEARS to compete with SONY'S lineup this year. HELL they have my money for GEARS 2 guaranteed and i sent in my broken 360 to get repaired so i can get back on GEARS to practice with my LIVE buddies. But MS does need more than GEARS.

Honestly I am a Sony fan... but does the 360 need to be saved? Sad part is there is enough console gamers to support both systems. No system needs to be saved and its not like one is going to dominate this genereation anyway (or any generation).

Yes the 360 does need to be saved. If gears 2 is the only thing to look forward to then i call that a shame. If res 2 was the only game this year ps3 fans had to look forward to then u guys swarm all over it. Alan Awake doesnt seem like its making it this year, Too Human the only game besides Gears that really looks promising and Halo Wars.... yea right. RTS on console w.o mouse and keyboard automatic flop. No game 360 is releasing can be put on the scale of MGS, its going to be the final MGS and looks amazing in graphics and gameplay people are speechless when they demoed it. Socom, Killzone, Res2 are 3 top shooters that can arguably top gears. If none of them individually are better I still rather 3 of those then 1 gears.

Also I dont see anything MS has for the next year either they did good last year compared to the competition and got nothing to show for this year and so far next year. I mean every console has games but I dont see any 360 games that separates it from the rest. Games are expensive and these days people are only buying what they think will be the best and ignoring the good-ok games. At the moment all I see with 360 are good-ok games and none amazing besides gears and too human. I still looking for a reason to buy a 360 and havent found 1.

Sony still has the better lineup...but this game definitely helps MS counter some of the PS3's momentum.

Just like how HD DVD is a dead piece of hardware because no movie company will release movies on it and because no retailer will support it, so is the machine that uses HD DVD add on, called the xbox 360, a DEAD piece of hardware. 1. Bigger user base than 2 years ago, by far.
2. it is a proven IP that is very well known (even the idiot i work with told me he wants to buy a 360 for gears of war, and he's a goof).
3. Epic has much to prove as their engine is in a more crowded space with other dev engines. So expect some impressive stuff, Epic are true masters.

Do sony boys realize that for the PS3 to catch the user base of the 360, it needs to sell 85,000 MORE consoles, EVERY MONTH, to catch the 360 established base in 6 YEARS. by that time, the new XBOX will have been released. Rendering the PS3 "last gen".

Almost all of my x360 friends secretly confided to me that they though that Gears1 was better than Halo 3. By nov this year. Not only will there be alot of x360's compare to when the first Gears came out. Gears 2 should be the best game on x360. It should without a doubt sell millions.

This is the last system selling game for the 360. Gears will sell really well, but after that I think they'll come out with a new XBOX.

Banjo Kazooi, Left for Dead, Dead Space, Alone in the Dark, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Alan Wake are NOT system sellers. Gears will be a system seller and maybe Halo Wars, but most gamers are not into RTS games. Some guy on the first page even threw out Lost Odyssey and Fable and some other title as being system sellers. Most of these games the general public havn't even heard of and some of these games are new franchises that aren't even proven.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, Killzone 2, Resistance Fall of Man 2, Gran Turismo Prologue and SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals will be the biggest system sellers in 2008. These are proven franchises and all you have to do is look at the over 120 million PS2 consoles that were sold as opposed to 24 million XBOX units.

-Gran Turismo 3 was the best selling PS2 game with just under 15 million copies sold.

-HALO 2 was the best selling XBOX game at 8 million copies sold.

Gangstarr - Killzone has an established huge following for one, its also supposed to be graphically superior to everything thats been released on any console to date. They've already shown gameplay footage that is as good as the CGI you are talking about. If you want to talk graphics, then I can say that HALO 3's graphics are crap and are definately not next gen.

You're right, 8 million Halo 2 copies to 24 million XBOXs sold is pretty good, but you have to realise that the PS2 appealed to a wider variety of games whereas the XBOX was known as being a "shooter console".

The point is that all of those titles I talked about will outsell anything the 360 comes out with this year including Gears 2.

Well GoW was a great game. To bad they did not follow it up properly with multi-player. The game-play in multi-player was plagued with lag and bugs on XBL. At one point you couldn't find a game without someone cheating in it. Glitching and what not. That's so lame that's why I quit playing it. If you're not the host you get lag, if you are the host you get crap for being the host. Both ways you loose. What about the quitters, OMG. Then GoW came out on the PC with no deditcated servers?? Lamest move ever. They made a great game and then ruined it. I did'nt buy UT for PS3 or PC because I could not trust them and I will not be buying GoW 2 because I still cannot trust them. Just my take on it.

I am reading people saying that the reason Gears 1 sold well was because it was the first 'next gen' shooter. Is anyone else around here like me and just buys a game because it looks good and fun? short answer: No.

look, there is *ALREADY a Gears of War game on the 360. that game is a phenomenal success, but the only people looking forward to Gears of War 2 are the Gears of War fans that *ALREADY HAVE A 360.

i don't see Gears of War 2 opening up the 360 market to anyone *OTHER than the already converted, and Gears fans.

if Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Bioshock couldn't propel the 360 past the PS3 in terms of sales in North America for last year, i don't think the sequel will help. don't get me wrong, Gears 2 is a multi-million seller, *GUARANTEED, but Microsoft is going to have to hit with more than that to combat the growing number of PS3 exclusives coming this year.

here's a simple, indisputable *FACT:

Microsoft only has about 4 or 5 internal development houses working on various 360 titles. those 4 or 5 studios can only create so many games a year.

on the other hand, Sony has about 20 internal development houses, working on various PS3 exclusives. those 20 studios can only create so many games a year, but it's kind of a no brainer to think that they have more games in the pipeline than Sony does.

and these aren't just studios that make mediocre projects.

Sucker Punch - known for the excellent Sly Cooper series. they are working on Infamous for release this year.

Team Ico - known for the critically acclaimed Ico and Shadow of the Colossus series. they are working on *TWO Playstation 3 titles, one of them will probably hit this year (i imagine a PSN title).

Zipper Interactive - known for the excellent SOCOM Series. they are expected to release their SOCOM either this year or next.

Ready at Dawn - known for the PSP hits Daxter, and the upcoming God of War: Chains of Olympus. they confirmed a few weeks ago, that they are creating a new IP for the PS3.

Slant Six - known for the excellent Syphon Filter and SOCOM games on the PSP. they are also working on SOCOM Confrontation for the PSN (due out this year)

Sony Santa Monica - known for the phenomenal God of War series. they are working on God of War 3 for the PS3 in 2009.

Naughty Dog - known for the excellent Crash Bandicoot, and Jak and Daxter series, as well as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. they are at work on a sequel to Uncharted, and a rumored Jak and Daxter PS3 game. probably due out in 2009.

Insomniac - known for the Spyro, Ratchet and Clank, and Resistance games. working on Resistance 2 for 2008, and Ratchet and Clank Future 2 for 2009.

Incognito - known for the awesome Twisted Metal series, as well as Warhawk. they are working on Twisted Metal PS3 for 2009.

SCE San Diego - i'm not a sports fan, but from what i hear, MLB: The Show is one of the best baseball games out there. they are working on the 08 version for release this year.

SCE Liverpool - known for the Wipeout and Colony Wars series. working on Wipeout for the PS3, as well as a rumored Colony Wars PS3 title (according to the latest issue of the Playstation Official Magazine, which is sitting on my lap right now).

Big Big Studios - known for the great Pursuit Force series on the PSP. they are currently working on a PS3 project for release next year (i'll be money it's a PS3 version of Pursuit Force).

SCE Cambridge - known for the Primal and Ghosthunter games. both underappreciated gems of the PS2 era. they are currently working on a PS3 title, probably for release next year.

Ninja Theory - second party, but known for the excellent Heavenly Sword title for the PS3. we've already been teased about their upcoming project, probably scheduled for release in 2009.

Evolution Studios - known for the 3 million unit selling Motorstorm title, and yes, Motorstorm 2 is scheduled for a Christmas 2008 release, with 4 player split-screen, and set in an island environment, instead of desert.

Guerrilla Games - known for Killzone and Killzone Liberation. the first Killzone was good, but hampered by the technology of the PS2 at the time. the PSP version is a *GREAT game, and, in my eyes, redeemed Guerrilla Games (i didn't care much for the first Killzone, although i *LOVED the atmosphere and world). they are working on Killzone 2 for release this year, which we've seen already, looking about 90% close to the CG target render of three years back. from various hands on with the game, it is beautiful, intense, and fun, but not without kinks. then again, the game was over a year from release when they played it. all signs are pointing to this title redeeming any ill will created by the first one (just like Fable; another personal favorite, despite harsh criticisms).

SCE London - known for the Singstar and Getaway games. currently working on Singstar PS3 Eight Days, and The Getaway PS3. i'm one of the few gamers out there that enjoyed the first Getaway, despite it's obvious technical flaws. there are certain developers (ie, Guerrilla Games), who's ambition is too much for technology to handle. with the PS3, i think SCE London will have the tools necessary to bring their vision of the Getaway to life in a way the PS2 could only *DREAM of.

Clap Hanz - known for the Hot Shots Golf series. working on Hot Shots Golf for the PS3, due out next month or April, i believe.

SCE Japan Studios - known for a lot of games, from Siren, to Ape Escape, to the current Eye of Judgment games on the PS3. they are currently working on Echocrome, and a few unannounced PS3 games (like Siren 3 for the PS3). Echocrome is due for release this year.

Game Republic - known for the Genji games, and the excellent Folklore. the Genji games were marred by poor design choices (ie, no movable camera in Genji for the PS3. the only flaw in an otherwise enjoyable launch title), but Folklore really opened my eyes to the studio's talent. they are currently working on Toy Home, and Dark Mist. Toy Home and Dark Mist are due for release this year (Dark Mist is already available in Japan, i believe).

Polyphony Digital - known for the Gran Turismo series. enough said, really. they are currently working on Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for US release, and Gran Turismo 5. both slated for *THIS YEAR.

that's 21 studios, and i left out SOE Seattle (working on The Agency), SCE Foster City/989 Studios (working on an unannounced PS3 title), and SOE San Diego (working on the DC MMO for the PS3). that brings Sony's total studio support to 25, and only 5 of them are second party.

the point i'm trying to make, is that yes, it's *GREAT that Microsoft is getting Gears of War 2 this year. as well as Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Too Human, and Halo Wars, arguably the strongest titles set to release this year, but those 5 games are going to have a tough time competing with the games coming from the studios listed above in the eyes of the 120 million *REMAINING Playstation 2 fans that have yet to upgrade to a PS3.

i also purposely left out PS3 exclusive titles and new IPs like WarDevil, Heavy Rain, White Knight Story, and LA Noire, as a 2008 release for those titles are up in the air (at least in the US).

pound for pound, for every Halo Wars, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Too Human, and Alan Wake for the 360, the PS3 has, at the least *TWO titles to match it.

now, i own a 360, so i'm not bound by any "law" to hype the PS3 and trash the 360, but when i'm looking at upcoming releases for both systems (and i'm talking about upcoming games that *PERSONALLY have my interest), i'm seeing more on the PS3 that interests me. but that's just my own personal tastes, not universal law. although, honestly, when it comes to my gaming needs, *MY opinion is the only one that matters. you guys are welcome to have your own tastes and preferences, and they are no more right or wrong than mine. to each his own, but it's kind of clear that, due to the tremendous amount of studios that Sony has under their belt, the PS3 will be getting more games, no matter how many third party games go multi-platform. those 25 studios cranking away at PS3 exclusive titles guarantees that the PS3 userbase won't run out of exclusive reasons to own a PS3 for years to come.

2007 was only a taste of what the PS3 can do. this year, the system proves itself as a true gaming powerhouse. the console wars are barely getting started, but in truth, that matters little to me, as i'll get to enjoy the games from *BOTH systems, and eventually even a Wii one day (not interested in it yet, but i have my eyes on No More Heroes and Smash Bros).

remember seta genesis and super nintendo? Mortal kombat with or without blood? Sales of ports? As you all know I traded my xbox for a ps3. (check xbox hardware forum" my xbox confessions") its been about 2 weeks now and I'm starting to miss the xbox because of exclusives, surprises and the live service. Just when I was a kid and I missed doom on the 32x sega genesis. Anyways, my point is as a ps3 games now for 2 weeks the pan network is uniteresting... The ps store is so pale in comparison to live. What is up with the small font that you can barely read? And every ps3 gamers wants in game features that still not available! I don't get what is so hard to update the future system with some in game features? The ps store needs to change and most importantly where's the Sony only games? Gt prologue is not worth $40 dollars for three tracks with the promise of constant updates. You are right about one thing and one thing only, the 1st Killzone didn't live up to expectation, but you are missing the point........... Killzone has a huge huge fanbase and although it did,'t sell the 8 million copies that Halo sold , it still managed to sell over 2 million copies.Not to mention the marketing muscle that Sony is going to put behind this game. If you've seen the E3 game trailer and all of the screenshots for this game and you don't think it looks that great, then there must be somthing wrong with you.( you should get that checked out)

SOCOM: Confrontation is online only, but this game franchise has one of the largest online communities in the world. When Socom 2 came out it averaged between 30,000-40,000 people on at any one time every day, and that popularity carried into Socom 3 and Combined Assault. There are so many people that I know that still play Socom on a daily basis and are waiting for SOCOM: Confrontation to come out before they purchase a PS3.

Even though Confrontation is being made by Slant Six, Zipper Interactive( the creators of socom) are making another Socom game set to come out around Christmas.

I guaranty that SOCOM will be a big system seller, Its the best Tactical Military Team Based Shooter out there period. Again, Sony will put its marketing machine behind this game just like it did with all of the other SOCOMs. (If you havn't played SOCOM, then you really missed out)

For those who think that PS3 will dominate you are sadly mistaken. Gears will sell its multi million copies but it doesn't need to be a MS savior. Im sure there are games that MS haven't even annouced yet that are beasts. Of course Ps3 does as well. But a number of the Ps3 games that were mentioned will probably get pushed back mainly, FF 13. (Just look at the history of the last game). But you PS3 fans have to realize that they have to "wait " for these games. The 360 has plenty of titles to enjoy right now (Halo 3, COD 4 (the ps3 COD 4 community is a joke), Lost Odyssey, Devil May Cry, and some others) All the hits for ps3 are still being developed, and me personally i don't think i could wait any longer.

I only hope they fix the sniping in Gears 2. It was a little off in teh first one.

Its hard to say how well Gears 2 will sell because there are a lot of people out there like me. I bought the first Gears because it had amazing graphics for it's time and because there was nothing else to play at the time. But I found the single player boring and the on-line lame. Come fall there will be a ton of shooters to choose from, and Gears 2's graphics will be nothing special, so there is no way I will buy Gears 2, its not even on my radar. I don't think it will be all that big.

Has Gears 2 saved 2008? In a way, yes it has and no it hasn't. Gears is an established IP for the 360 that did remarkably well. GeoW2 will only solidify this as the new "Halo-ish" franchise for Microsoft. However, when you compare GeoW2 to the plenty of other games coming out for the 360 this year, it brings a thought to mind. GeoW2 will be the 360s best game of 2008 compared to new franchises coming out for this year. Microsoft is going to have to actually work this year. The games coming out until this fall are nowhere near the hype surrounding MGS4 and the rest of the PS3's line-up. Do't get me wrong, I'm sure the 360 will have a great year, but it will be nowhere near the PS3's lineup. That also brings up something else interesting. I see 360 fans throwing around the sales number game. Isn't it odd to see that the PS3 sold more then the 360 in one year with no games? What would have happened HAD the PS3 "had games?"

This is a craptastic article. The thing is the Xbox 360 doesn't need any saving. If you look at the games coming out this year on 360 without Gears of War 2 you still have the best line-up of any console this year. Yeah, the PS3 will have Metal Gear Solid (assuming it comes out), and the same GTA 4 (minus episodic content), Home (someday), and Little Big Planet, but the Xbox 360 has a ton of great stuff that's not Gears of War 2. Game like Vegas 2, Army of Two, Soul Calibur IV, Street Fighter IV, Ninja Gaiden 2, Too Human, Force Unleashed, Bionic Commando, Fable 2, even Banjo-Kazooie 3, etc. There are a ton of games coming out this year. Gears of War 2 is really just gravy. While some of the games I've mentioned are on multiple consoles, you know more people own 360s and will buy the games on Xbox 360 rather than PS3, if not only for achievements.

Then no. Halo 1 and 2 did amazingly well, but still couldn't save the original Xbox unfortunately. It's going to take a slew of at least a dozen amazing titles to do that.

The updates to Unreal Engine 3 haven't exactly been mindblowing, so hopefully Epic has been hard at work fixing the nagging problems of the original Gears of War title, namely game length, animation, story, and max number of players online. While 4v4 does create a very intimate experience, there should at least be the option of 8v8.

The biggest problem is the fact that Gears is going head-to-head with Resistance and Killzone this holiday season, and might actually end up being an inferior experience compared to Sony's offerings.

With GTA4 exclusive content and Gears of War 2, at least Xbox 360 owners have SOMETHING to look forward to. So 2008 won't be a complete failure but it won't be as big as 2007 with halo 3, mass effect and bioshock.
