Sony is like what you got Xbox. And Xbox is like, I'm tired and out of juice I have nothing left in me. Then Sony slaps Xbox in the face and says I was was here first. That's what you get for trying to steal the show from me.

The Wii U selling 2.4 million is not too bad but I remember Nintendo fans claiming that it sold more than 4 million. Where are they now? On second thought they will just discredit VGChartz... Anyway Congrats to the Sony and PS3 fans including me for PS3 being the number 1 selling video game console of 2012. Anybody who refuses to believe these numbers should bring a more reliable source and figures to the table. If not then shut up.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 has overtaken the 360 at this point, as we all know that the PS3's numbers are well below what they should be.

I don't think we'll ever know who sold the most this year. You have VGChartz estimates showing the PS3 ahead this year, but they also showed the PS3 ahead last year while Microsoft and Sony's shipment numbers (aka the REAL numbers) clearly showed the Xbox 360 selling more worldwide in 2011. And in 2012, Sony began combining PS3 and PS2 sales in their quarterly reports, so there's no way to know exactly how much the PS3 sold in this close race with the 360. I don't know why Sony has to make things so hard when it comes to the sales game; hiding their NPD numbers, masking their shipment numbers... Microsoft just proudly announces their sales numbers - no smoke and mirrors!

I seriously wish people would realize market share is not a given, next gen or any gen.

Were it not for the wii controller, the thing would have only sold 30mill max. The wii u will do 40million max.

Xbox360 had no competition for a year + and everyone who bought it, had to then get gold xboxlive.

PS3 came out very late, and with both a cheaper, casual system sold to mums and gramps, and had the 360 trying to steal hardcore.

Had the PS3 came out first, the 360 would have probably reached 45million max.

When 720/PS4 come out, it's really a case of Online,features,price. and not in that order.

How much market share did the playstation brand loose to nintendo and MS this gen? It sure was no ps2 monster. Nintendo and ms spanked sony this gen. Its over. The fans can keep counting units sold but the damage is done. This time next gen starts when MS says so. Lol

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
