They say a year is a long time in politics. It could be argued (after 2012) that a year is akin to a millennia in gaming. The industry has been turned upside down in the space of 12 months. Storied names have forsaken Triple-A development in droves; the collapse of a video game company put an entire state on financial alert; one of the major publishers declared itself bankrupt; violent video games have once again been blamed as the catalyst for the actions of the mentally ill; Kickstarter has gone from being the saviour of indie gaming to being the piggy bank for all and sundry; the ethics of video game journalism were brought into stark focus as the line between being a gamer and a journalist was drawn. It has become its own entity and shall forever be known as the Robert Florence Affair).

Still dealing well after all these years.

“Castlevania Belmont’s Curse is a 2D Action-Exploration game where players can freely explore vast, elaborately crafted maps,” Tommy Williams, Konami’s Head of Communications for the Americas, tells The Verge. “It is not a roguelike or roguelite game.”

The Oldest House leaking into New York is all I needed to hear to be excited about Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment’s long-anticipated follow-up to their excellent 2019 paranormal action-adventure, Control. As they recently showed us with Alan Wake 2, the folks at Remedy are not afraid to take big swings with sequels, and Control Resonant looks no less surprising and delightful than its studio and series pedigree would suggest.
Hear, hear! That was excellent.
