I think this is how Japanese devs need to think. Catering to the west is a terrible idea. I personally, seek out Japanese developed games because they bring a unique experience to gaming. They just stand out more that way.
The sonic music is iconic the mega drive games were some of the best on the system but i wouldn't say they were free of western influence especially since 3 was composed in part by Michael Jackson
But honestly most of the crush 40 soundtrack music lives in my head rent free
Uhhh that's a strange thing for him to say. Even in the interview he admits to listening to a lot of western music.
"Today, Sonic the Hedgehog, one of the most iconic and beloved brands in the industry, is thrilled to announce its 35th anniversary this year." - SEGA.

Sonic the Hedgehog was one of my first game that got me into playing video games. First game, first console- Sega Mega drive (genesis)
Happy 35th anniversary Sonic
But Sonic hit the ropes after Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, Sonic Racing was a bit of a comeback, but it never really recovered. Sonic Frontiers and Superstars were decent, Adventure 3 is way overdue. I was there in 1991 when the first game launched on the Mega Drive. SEGA keeps throwing out boring collections, it's time to move on with new collections.
Also pretty close to the date when Donkey Kong came out July 9, 1981, first game with Mario, who will be 45 this year. 🎂
This is a weird one I'm looking forward to this been a fan since the mega drive despite losing interest in the franchise for a very long time I only got back in with mania
