Yeah you have a point. Actually when I was looking at how a game sold, the number of units next to the name, which was the number of units it had sold so far, was actually different than the number found if you clicked on the game. I found that this happened with several games, at least Vita games anyway, those were the ones I was looking at.

I never have, until they provide sources for their info, and also not repeatedly have to be corrected for false figures then I won't even give them a hit.

Both the xbox 360 and ps3 have had undertracking and overtracking, well, that is at least what people keep saying. I'd prefer to watch monkey throw crap at each other than listen to the same fanboy dribble every VG Chartz article. It is strangely amusing though.

Never are the games in question, or Nintendo, or 360, but PS3 for some reason is always undertracked according to some folks here on N4g

Who's saying they're right? All I see is people saying they're often wrong...and they are.

Currently they seem to be overtracking PS3 sales for the year. We know from Sony's numbers that they hit 70 million at the start of Nov (and it was the start of Nov. I was wrong before when I said it was Sept 30. Look up Sony's own press release, they have a "as of" date right on it. I was confused by a chart on Sony's site tracking hardware sales) so based on their last PS3 specific figures, that was just over 6 million, but if you look at VGChartz figures for the year, Jan-Nov they're showing 7 million. VGChartz also has PS3 numbers at just over 70 million right now when Sony confirmed they hit that number 6 weeks ago, and we know the PS3 moved half a million units during Black Friday alone in the US.

We also know from MS that between Jan-Sept, the 360 sold 4.2 million units to retail while VGChartz shows over 5 million during that period. And, although we don't often see numbers from specific games, when those figures are revealed, VGChartz is almost always way out in left field.

It doesn't matter who's overtracked or undertracked. That has nothing to do with it. You guys make it sound like throngs of people are singing VGChartz's praises the second they show Sony out in front of the 360. Where's the evidence of that, because all I see is a lot of people questioning VGChartz and where they get their numbers from, as they've always done, myself included.

No one is "praising" these figures or criticizing only when they over/under track one over the other. No one needs VGChartz to point out that the PS3 has sold faster than the 360. Sony and MS's own figures show that just fine.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. I'm pretty sure the ps2 was outselling the PS3 for its first year and look at the ps3 now :)
