1UP Previews Monster Lab

Monster Lab is an action game that features role-playing game elements. As a mad scientist apprentice, players construct a monster and take it into battle. You do this by collecting components -- found in battles or by completing minigame challenges -- and then doing a series of "experiments," which also take the form of minigames, such as welding along a set path. Completing these lets you build parts like arms, legs, torsos, and heads, which you can then mix and match into a monster of your own devising.

Kudos to Eidos and Backbone Entertainment for this excellent offering on the Wii, which will hopefully inspire other developers to turn out quality titles".

With all of the Wii titles, the golden standard, surprisingly, has always been Wii Sports. For a free game included with the console, it served as the best example of how the controllers should function within a game. With Monster Lab, however, I think I've found a new benchmark."
