When Capcom announced Devil May Cry 4 was going multiplatform last year, PlayStation loyalists decried the move as a betrayal. Since its launch in 2001 with the original Devil May Cry, the franchise had only appeared on the PlayStation 2 with the fourth installment originally announced as a PS3 exclusive.
However, the Japanese's publisher's decision to release its demon-slaying game on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has paid off. Today, Capcom announced that since its release in the US and Europe earlier this month and in Japan in January, Devil May Cry 4 has sold over 2 million units worldwide.
DMC4's rapid success makes the game the fastest-selling installment in the seven-year-old series. It also accounts for just under a quarter of the entire franchise's total of 9 million units in sales, according to Capcom. The well-reviewed game's haul is also poised to increase later this year, when DMC4 is released on the PC.
With the release of the Devil May Cry series on Netflix, we take a moment to look back on this almost 20-year-old series and let you know the best of the best.

5. DMC4 7.5/10 (Hated Nero, repeat bosses, Dante was the saving grace but only about half the game)
4. DmC 7.5/10 (solid overall, some great ideas, meh story, dialog sucked, and the director almost killed DMC)
3. DMC1 8.5/10 (all around solid)
2. DMC5 9/10 (carried by Dante & Nero gameplay, I didn’t like V’s, Nero’s better but still not a fan)

WHAT!? who in their right mind would put 2 near the top (not at the bottom) unironically?
I think all of them are worth playing in their own right honestly, except 2 unless you REALLY want to experience the whole series.
I honestly don't know what the author was smoking, personally I'd rank DMC3 as no.1, maybe DMC5 as second, DMC1 as third, DMC4 as fourth, and DMC as fifth and DMC2 last. such a bizarre list, mybe the author just has strange taste.

This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5
2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me
3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

God DMC2 was an awful game.

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...
5, 3, 1, 4, 2.
I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.
But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me
This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
Two Devil May Cry games have been delisted on Steam. As shared on X, formerly Twitter, by Wario64, Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition and Devil May Cry 4 are no longer available to purchase.
Bless the adorably all digital future! When it comes to PC games its not as big of an issue because there should always be another way to access single player games, but still, I hate to see anything get delisted.
Well, DMC4 special edition has a lot of issues to run from Steam.
I have to get a modded executable to even be able to run the game on Windows 10.
Not sure if it is because the game runs in DirectX10 or what, but it sucks they have not even tried to fix it.
DMC4 Special Edition is not delisted, it was just the standard version, it has nothing to do with issues of performance or anything alike. Its just that Capcom probably do not want to sell the standard version, neither the standalone DMC3 version.
Erk! 2 million already! Really? Wow! That's pretty impressive, and certainly does justify the multi-platform choice for the game, assuming the sales-split broadly follows the same pattern the oh-so-reliable VGChartz suggests (at the time of writing: PS3 -- 0.61 million; 360 -- 0.46 million).
Whatever the case, I've got the game, and I'm enjoying it; however, I feel it is a little over-rated. Perhaps I'll change my mind when I get further into the game, we'll see.
but I was still thinking it was a B!tch move by capcom to treat the PS3 like that when the fan base for the franchise was ALL sony. That's just business I guess, honor be dammed.
Anyone who has played the other DMC titles can admit the controls are better for the PS3. Its just the way it is. Many FPS's play better on the 360, but DMC is made for the Dual Shock. At the end of the Day, I'll buy this game for my PS3 since every time I turn on my 360, it's like playing roulette or craps as to when I'm going to be left with a brick.
It made things rougher for sony by having less exclusives to brag about.
Regardless of how heavenly sword or Lair performed, I think more consumers and developers would have invested in PS3 earlier if they knew this was an exclusive. It would have helped sell a lot more PS3's. Instead, CAPCOM decides to give us lost planet a year later. They can keep that garbage. It doesnt even have any lasting appeal for the 360.
When Dead Rising 2 is announced. Because you know MS will be waving a check at Capcom to make it a 360 (timed at the very least) exclusive.
