Nintendo Could Start A Massive Gaming Trend, Again

Techologie- When Nintendo first announced the original Wii, the reception for it was rather mild. When the Wii was finally launched, not only did it sell like hot cakes, it also changed the way we game. By introducing motion controls, Nintendo created a market that never existed, and profited greatly.

The tablet itself really is a "trojan killer app" that no one will expect until they get one in their home.

Once you're playing console games on the wii u tablet, while sitting in bed or on the toilet, you suddenly realize why this concept it so great.

It also really lends itself to pick up and play gaming. I find it much easier to fit Wii U gaming into my schedule.

PopRocks3594927d ago

For a second there I read "Wii Fit U" in your last sentence. :P

But yes, I agree. It will probably be picked up as it goes. I've met a few people who were not really fond of the controller/console but were excited once they actually tried it out.

elpresador4927d ago

I hope it does not get too big. If it does, then we will get half assed stuff like another Kinect and move. Developers will start making more games for whatever device taking money and resources away from Other games, it will suck. Also, if I wanted to play games on a contrller with a good sixed screen, then I would BUY S PORTABLE CONSOLE LIKE THE 3DS OR VITA.

MasterCornholio4927d ago

Even though Microsoft and Sony haven´t turned the Wii mote (Kinect and Move) into a standard for their console the traditional control scheme still rules the majority of games. Which is why im confident that the Wii U wont revolutionize gaming and turn the tablet controller into a standard for all games.

This is the reason why the Wii Us existence on the market doesn´t really bother me because while the tablet controller will be an interesting option the standard controllers will still be around for anyone who isnt interested in gaming with a tablet/standard controller hybrid.

Zichu4927d ago

I actually tried the Wii U out in GAME last week and I just didn't like the feel of the controller or the fact I was switching between screens and then using the touchscreen.

I prefer to look at one screen, not have to look at the controller and still know what I am doing. The standard controller just feels right in my hands.

I hope tablet controllers don't become the standard controller in the future.

Is anyone going to be suprised?
I mean, I think it's far too early to tell if Wii U will be "half" as successful as its predecessor. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, but they are dragging their feet in so many ways. I would give it a year before Wii U really gets on its feet. They'd better make a big splash because a year from now is the next gen storm.
They're going to need to make a big push with some software or we might see some trade ins. You never know, MS or Sony could drop out, hopefully there's room for all three. More please!!

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure82d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer84d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot83d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box83d ago (Edited 83d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno83d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay83d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno82d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK82d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
