i think they should have kept the wifi feature in there or at least have some type of internet connectivity, but thats ok you can a buy the old wii for about 80 used in most pawn shops and gamestop now anyway.

Wow 99$ for a Wii. And a great Design too. Since I don't own a Wii yet I would buy it right away if Nintendo didn't remove the online capabilities.

Nintendo are trying to stop people from buying the PS3/360, which are cheaper than the Wii U, so they are releasing this for the super casuals who wouldn't have needed the online, or even knew it existed.
Nintendo want Sony and Microsoft to announce their next gen consoles because the Wii U will be cheaper than them.
Having the PS3/360 with 50-60 million owners each is bad for the Wii U because it's really just around the same specs as Sony's and Microsoft's consoles with a different controller.
Sony and Microsoft could take advantage of that and hold off their next gen consoles for another few years.
The casuals won't move from the Wii to the Wii U and the hardcore gamers won't move from the PS3/360 to the Wii U, so the majority of Wii U gamers will be the ones who buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo franchises.
When the PS4/720 come out, the Wii U will be the cheap, weak console, just like the wii is now, and that's exactly what Nintendo want.

From looking at the small pic I thought this was just like a roku/apple tv style set top box with a cool enough red band around it. I thought it looked good.

Then I opened the link. It looks like a very cheap and hideously ugly plastic console from the 80s. I don't even think it even justifies it's price tag.

I'm a -too- late adopter for this gen, and I can say there's some market for it. For example, I just bought the $199 PS3 BF bundle, and next gear I'll buy this Wii at $99. It's not like online were a strong feature on Wii.

So yeah, I'll be buying one. The reason I Am late to this Gen, it's because I was finishing a lot of Gamecube games, so backwards isn't necessary to me. Looks great, if you ask me.

This console basically mean there are no longer supporting the Wii. Reason is how in the world will they patch it if something go wrong, you pretty much have to send it to them or take it back to the store you purchased it from.

and like someone said above no Netflix, no purchasing games from previous gens. i really think nintendo made a huge mistake. the upside though is that many kids that don’t play online will have a new wii this christmas.

if nintendo releases a external internet thing later for it for a reasonable price than this might be worth getting but i just don’t see any point in buying it at all right now.

The Wii sales made Nintendos ego big, now they think they could do whatever they want and it will sell.

The Wii brand is dead so they may have a lot of trouble with Wii u. That gen of gamers have grown up and now want Xbox and ps3 because its what the older and cooler kids play. Now Nintendo has to try and entice this young gen of gamers, and they may very well, but if Wii was rebranded it would not only attract the kids but hardcores too, because hardcores don't want anything with Wii on it. They're putting all there eggs in one basket again, they better hope it pays.

I don't care about online much. I've had no online for 3 years with a Wii since launch and had no problem! So I'm going to get this and use that extra $30 dollars on the accessories.

I don't blame Nintendo for putting this out, they really want to hit that 100 million mark and this is a formula that has worked for them in the past.

I think Sony released a PSP that lacked online ability right before the Vita launched. So its a decent enough idea and the $99 price point will appeal to a lot of people. Honestly, the Wii doesn't have patches, I've never used the online on my Wii anyway. I was never big into the Virtual Console or Arcade deals they had because I didn't like buying "Nintendo Points".

With the thousands of back catalog games, and a lot of those pretty cheap now, this is a great entry level machine for someone new to gaming, kids or parents or pretty much everyone.

And for those complaining, just don't buy it. Its not like its forced on anyone, why bother spouting off about it? Lots of companies have released re-designed consoles later on.

No Wifi means no internet access /online play no online store. Its not "compatible Game Cube discs, and the gamecube controller ports and memory slots have been removed."
Not to mention you won't have any of you classic virtual Nintendo classics because of well, no internet so that's a huge waste.

Stick with your Wii people you have online access along with BC with GameCube games. This an ENTIRE waste of money.

strange that the wii got a redesign, probably won't be attractive enough for current wii owners to get this but i guess for others who hasn't got one and don't care for online then this is fine.

I personally think the wii is small enough already.

nothing will ever beat the PS2 redesign, it slimmed down that beast of a machine to a tiny console but kept the slick look.

360 also looks great but its not small enough for me.

woul also like to note that the only redesigns I have ever purchased after owning the original is GB pocket and GBA SP. The only ever redesign I have ever had was the DS lite.

Hopefully Nintendo will step up and make some corrections, because if this is what you get, then shrinking it wasn't worth it.

I might as well buy this, I gave my modded white Wii to my brother and I still need to beat solo games like Metroid Prime 3, Other M, and Skyward Sword.

I almost want to buy this and not open the box. I think this will be one of those items in the future that'll be worth money. Seriously, like every second hand major nintendo system is rare. The colored n64's, nes2 and snes2.
