Look at the smaller games

DeathSpank
Flower
Journey
Stacking
Trials
Limbo
Trine
The Unfinished Swan
Outland

^^^THESE
You can find amazing games in small packages. Indi is where it's at IMO.

Eyeco4933d ago

don't forget Portal and Braid, the latter was incredible i never got down to beating it tho

DwightOwen4932d ago

LIMBO was fucking fantastic.

bsjkupo4933d ago

Totally agree! Indies blew up because of this innovation Lull in mainstream games IMO :)

1upgamer994933d ago (Edited 4933d ago )

You know what, there has NOT been innovation in years. I mean Nintendo does it first and sorry to say the rest follow. Now watch the rest follow once again. Nintendo gamepad and here we go Microsoft (I wont even talk about "Smart Glass") will create something better than the gamepad Nintendo developed FIRST, and Sony will do the same. People say Wii sucks, well I guess they have not played Metroid, Galaxy, Red Steel, Resident Evil 4, Zelda, and a ton of others on Wii. Innovation is what Nintendo does best. So You want to pick up a PS4 cause the game will LOOK better, well not my problem. More power does NOT make the game, I mean Wii U games are not going to look like crap. The gamepad according to IGN freaking makes the game, BOPS2. Innovation and new and fun ways to play is what Nintendo is all about. If you want a new way to play and Innovation, WHY WOULD YOU NOT GET A WII U... DISAGREE ALL YOU WANT ITS TRUE..I mean really go ahead and buy the same type of game over and over again on PS3 and its the same thing OVER AND OVER... Wii U offers something different. With the Wii U you can Use Pro controller, Wii remotes, gamepad, whatever you want. Use the gamepad as a HUD and your Pro controller for gameplay......I am sorry but Innovation is here. Go ahead and play the same crap the same way over and over again that is your choice....The Wii U is also at least 50% more powerful than PS3 I DONT CARE WHAT YOU THINK...here is PROOF ON THAT POINT. http://www.nintendolife.com...

N4GDgAPc4933d ago

Your comments are funny. You mention nintendo games having innovation which the games you mention have nothing really innovated about it except doing some cool things with galaxy.

Metroid didn't innovate anything that hasn't been done before in previous games. Its a first person shooter but you can role in a ball. Red Steel was a piece of crap with bug fest heaven. Which I hear Red Steel 2 did better but nothing great. Resident Evil 4 came out on the gamecube. it didn't revolutionize the wii, it was a port. Zelda hasn't had any innovation in many years. Its still the exact same game since Orcarina Of time.

Only way I will say nintendo comes up with great innovation if they actually start making some new IP's

chronoforce4932d ago

Firstly; Metroid is not a full first person shooter its and adventure game first, if it was a first person shooter it would be 1 a dimensional "get to the waypoint" game and full of "action set pieces", Metroid games have always wanted players to explore their surroundings something no other shooter had done,I would like to know the previous games that came before it I certainly haven't played them. Have you even played a metroid game?

to innovate is to change something, not just the same but better and by that definition Metroid and the Wii U is full of it.

secondly;People talk about for example about Sony creating new I.P( which is a good thing), well they had to since some of biggest games on the PS2 went multi-plat like metal gear solid and final fantasy.lets look at Sony's original I.P crash, ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, the GT series to name a few. The best selling game that was a work of their hands last gen was Gran Turismo and it is the best selling this gen too but they cant rely on Gran turismo alone.

Ratchet and clank and jak are good games but they don't sell enough. Sony need lots of new I.P, being an older more established company Nintendo don't, just look at PS all stars the game arguably wouldn't have even been possible last gen and Microsoft all stars isn't even possible they would resort to having different types of covenant as a playable characters. Nintendo need maybe 3 or 4 new I.P though ultimately they want I.P that lasts

1upgamer994932d ago (Edited 4932d ago )

Uhh, really? Have you even played the games you are knocking? On other systems (I have a high end PC and a PS3) you have knock offs and repeat after repeat, Sure on Nintendo you have repeats, BUT it remains fresh and FUN. Lets see Halo 1,2,3,4, Halo Reach, Halo Wars, ...and so on. Now You could say Mario this and that, BUT when Mario is in a Title (and there are tons of em) It means FUN.....when You have a game like Halo it is kind of like Metroid, and you don't see Nintendo doing Metroid 1,2,3,4 and more than 3 other spin offs in less than 10 years. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ON NINTENDO because they CARE about the games and want not just to make money, but make memories Innovation, yeah Zelda, Mario, Sin and Punishment, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, the list for them goes on and on. Microsoft has Halo, Sony has Sly cooper, and others, BUT both Sony and Microsoft go with what Nintendo has already done and run with it. You watch, the gamepad NINTENDO has come up with is AMAZING and guess what in a year for Microsoft and in a year and a half for Sony they will have one as well....NINTENDO once again will be first and the rest will COPY...Nintendo has always been the leader in INNOVATION. So go ahead and play Halo 18 and Playstation wanastars. I will play Smash Bros, Metroid, Zelda, Sin and Punishment, BOPS2 Looking better than PS3 Or Xbox with added 2nd screen.

AtomicGerbil4933d ago

Where to start..............?

kesvalk4932d ago

talk about great games, then talk about red steel

u2funny dude!

Picnic4933d ago

Well there's a game called Playstation Allstars Battle Royale on the PS3 which is doing what Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. did so you do the maths.

But the truth is that when Sony announces a genuinely interesting concept like Puppeteer, a resurrection of the detailed 2D platformer before 'floaty physics games' like Rayman Orgins became associated with that, nobody talks about it.

Axonometri4933d ago

Not dead just moved to much smaller groups without the massive media abilities. Big publishers and game overseers don't like innovation or change. It scares them because innovative ground pushers are risk takers.

Where as small indies literally live on having to be ground breakers and innovative.

Picnic4932d ago (Edited 4932d ago )

It doesn't necessarily make indie games better though. I recently played Sam and Max- The Devil's Playhouse and loved it. It's a genre that went out of fashion when 3D gaming came in. But I wouldn't trust a new 'indie' developer to do it justice, going all silly when a bit of seriousness is required. It still needs a developer with experience so that the dry humour works.

Axonometri4932d ago

That goes for just about everything though. Is it not? point taken though

Ex-Assassin's Creed Boss Sues Ubisoft Over Alleged Forced Firing

In 2025 Marc-Alexis Côté, the head of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and a 20 year veteran of Ubisoft, abruptly left the publisher following the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The canceled Assassin's Creed Civil War game was a powder keg waiting to explode

Ubisoft was reportedly working on a game set after the Civil War era, but canceled it due to politics and Assassins Creed Shadows backlash.

lukasmain229d ago

"Ubisoft was uncomfortable with the backlash surrounding Assassin's Creed Shadows' Black samurai protagonist and concerned that the current political climate in America was too fraught."

They are so stupid. There was never a racist backlash to a black protagonist in Assassin's Creed, there was just a backlash because you wanted to have a 7foot black Samurai running around in ancient Japan when you should have had a Japanese local. (I haven't played the game yet, but I plan on it after I finish Ghost Of Yotei)

An Assassin's Creed based just after the American Civil War about a former slave being an Assassin and fight the KKK would have been freakin' EPIC. Something different story-wise in the Assassin's Creed universe. It would have been awesome. When I originaly read this rumor, I felt a bit of a gut punch because that is a game I would have loved to have played. Then I rolled my eyes when I read about Ubisoft's concerns. What a joke.

Were you worried of the fact that the early members of the KKK (after the Civil War) were predominantly Southern Democrats? Is that it? Im joking. But having a Black protagonist, WHERE IT MAKES SENSE, like after the Civl War, is no problem whatsoever. It's a slice from another time that I can't remember playing a game like that before. A former Black slave?. The game could have been really cool. I'm bummed they won't be making this one.

There is nothing “EPIC” about assassins creed dude…

lukasmain228d ago

Well THIS idea for a game could have been. I mean I take your point. I've always been a sucker for Platinuming Assassin Creed games. I do them all, but NONE of them have ever been my GOTY. They're more like a guilty pleasure, similar to the Far Cry games

_Decadent_Descent228d ago

"But having a Black protagonist, WHERE IT MAKES SENSE"

You are aware that Yasuke was a real African samurai in Japan, no? How is a telling of his story (albeit a fantastical one) not "where it makes sense"?

FinalFantasyFanatic228d ago

I honestly think the concept of this game really could have worked, having said that, I don't trust Ubisoft to actually execute it in a satisfying way.

senorfartcushion228d ago

There was a backlash.

Americans are very vocal online and now there are police forces hunting foreign-looking people in the streets to deport them - even if they are actual Americans.

Companies are worried about selling “wokeness” to this population of 350+ million.

Then there are countries that are starting to move away from wokeness, to a more racially exclusive “whites only” traditional, like Poland, The UK and The Netherlands.

That’s a lot of sales, and though nations are becoming racist, it’s clear that big corporations only care about money and will sell what they think those countries will accept.

chrisx228d ago

Saying there was never a racist backlash just shows how ignorant you are.

lukasmain227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

It wasn't a racist backlash. Maybe a few poeple, but the overwhleming majority was not a racist backlash. You thinking there was just shows how ridiculous you are and how warped your mind is.

Running around and killing the KKK and former confederates has been done to great effect in Red Dead Redemption 2.

It would be fun to play that with historical accuracy while debunking the lost cause mythos.

Such a wonderfully ripe opportunity. What a shame.

wesnytsfs228d ago

It was a blast in Mafia 3 taking out those racist F#cks.

cbuc1125228d ago

I approve this message!👍

isarai228d ago (Edited 228d ago )

We've had black protagonists before in ac and it wasn't a problem, Bayek, Adéwalé, Aveline, the assassin has always represented the setting they're in, that's why there was so much backlash for shadows, people have been waiting since the first game! for Japan to be represented by some awesome japanese samurai or ninja, and instead we get an african samurai? With the tease for this game starting with the ending of the very first game, and people begging for it for so long, success was handed to them on a silver platter and they decided to pick this one of all the entries to change the formula, it was a dumb move.

Was there a bunch of racist buttholes shouting? absolutely, but a lot of fans complaining were just disappointed to see them finally take on japan only for the protagonist to not even remotely following the same type of lead as LITERALLY EVERY OTHER AC GAME EVER RELEASED!

Couldn't care less about him being black, i always liked yasuke as a mysterious historic figure, and i love him in other media like the anime(underrated soundtrack btw), Samurai Warriors, nioh, etc, but this was a waste of the character imo.

This just screams tone deaf, just like their entire marketing campaign for this game. Whatever! 🤷‍♂️ I got Ghost of Tsushima/yotei now to fill that void

Inverno228d ago

I'm all for people expressing their views and I will defend everyone's right to do so. But I firmly believe that society needs to progress and be more accepting/tolerant and not be so obsessed with how others live their life's because that truth is it isn't affecting your personal life in a negative way, you just think it is. With that said, just as it was necessary to push back on all the annoying sjw stuff we can't forget to push back on all the ignorance coming from the opposite extreme. F*** the KKK and that nazi ish, I say make the game and let it offend em!

-Foxtrot228d ago

Wouldn’t this have made more sense story and setting wise than having a black slave turned Samurai in ancient Japan.

I’d rather have seen this story played out.

-Foxtrot228d ago

But if you had to choose, this idea should have been first

Notellin228d ago

Because we aren't getting both now and that's what is being discussed. Are you able to read and comprehend the words?

ravens52227d ago

Can you read Notellin? "I’d rather have seen this story played out." I asked Foxtrot a question, not you, don't look silly.

FinalFantasyFanatic228d ago

They should have just done this game instead of AC Japan, it would have been receieved much better.

ravens52227d ago

They should've just done both and not change their artistic ideas for losers that talk about Yasuke being in the game more than actual Japanese people. This wasnt the only piece of media he's been in

This is a great reminder of how game sales have become more concentrated in a smaller number of games/series over time. In the PS1/PS2 era a game was a success if it sold a million or a few million copies. The GTA games (3/Vice City/San Andreas) were pretty big outliers in selling as much as they did during the PS2 era. So in the minds of a lot of gamers something like FF VII feels like it was as big of a PS1 game as God of War 2018 was for PS4, but in reality far fewer people bought it (though it has obviously reached additional people through remasters, etc.).

StoneTitan257d ago

this was alwalys the case and will always be the case. with everything

257d ago
Zerobalance257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

What this says to me is, not many people are buying a PS to play PS exclusives. Like so many false narratives, like Xbox gamers don't buy games! It seems Playstation as a default system is a vanilla system to play call of duty, Minecraft, GTA games and a sports games.

badz149257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

if you look back into the PS history, it has always been the 3rd parties who sells the most games. it was just that the PS1 and PS2 were so dominant that many of those 3rd party games were exclusives. so, back during the PS1 and PS2 days, the strategy was "to sell as many consoles as possible in order to sell more 1st party exclusives" to ride on that wave. The strategy to push many 1st party exclusives to sell consoles only started with the PS3 when many of those prior 3rd party exclusives went multiplat but more accurately, it started with the PSP.

Sony saw with the PSP, which was being trounced in sales by the DS, that 3rd party exclusives are hard to come by if you're not dominating the market. So they started building more 1st party games and when the PS3 were facing difficulties in sales, they knew they had to rely on their own to differentiate the PS3 from the 360. So the strategy back then changed to "release more 1st party exclusives in order to sell more consoles".

the only manufacturer that is still consistently selling their hardware to play 1st party exclusives, is Nintendo, and that was because they gave up the armrace for power thus they can't rely on 3rd parties anymore as all multiplats play better on competing consoles. AND that's also why they are the most ominous in going after emulators and also patent trolling!

so, you're not wrong there, but not an "aha!" moment or anything. it has been this way since the last, at least, 15 years for Playstation.

257d ago
Deathdeliverer256d ago

@zerobalance

So... what this tells you is that Call of duty, being the absolute check writer that it is, has been outsold by Last of us, God of war, 2 Spider man games..... Saying Playstation exclusives doesn't sell is like saying call of duty doesn't sell because they have outsold some of iterations. Does that make sense to you?
