From Gamer.tm: "A study conducted by the Kriminologischen Forschungsinstituts Niedersachsen (KFN) in Germany has found that the consumption of violent media – including violent videogames – has a direct impact on a child's school grades.
"Using boys as a sample group, the study found that the average grades for German, maths and general studies for children who regularly play games cleared for ages 16 and above were 0.1 to 0.5 below the national average. By contrast, boys who never play such games typically receive grades slightly above this.
"In the case of games cleared for ages 18 and above, the effect was even more profound. According to the results, the average grades of children who regularly played such titles were 0.3 to 0.66 below the national average, while those that never played such titles were again marginally above.
German schools use a numerical grading system, where one is the highest grade attainable and ten the lowest. All age ratings were based on those awarded by the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontolle (USK) board."

New report from Skillsearch found that 22% of those surveyed had been laid off within the past 12 months.

It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI
I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise
We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.
Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.
it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.
This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
my pre xbox 360 grades (rarely played games)... C-, C, B-, U(F)
my grades last semester (always play games)... A+, A+, A, A
If I had to choose a genre I'd say RPG's.
What if you think practicing guitar is more interesting than studying. Does that make guitars bad for our children? I think it has to do with the personality of the student, and the environment he/she lives in. If your life outside of school is very stressful you might find more comfort in playing games(or the guitar) than in studying.
It sort of depends on what grade level you're at also. High school (being relatively easy) there won't be much of an effect. College there will be a bigger effect.
Post-graduate work (more difficult by far), there will be a big effect of video games. I'm doing post-graduate work now and I have to admit, my Battlefield 2142 playing is adversely effecting my studies. I think for other genres, such as driving and racing games, the negative effect isn't nearly as big. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that in order to get good at online FPS you really need to know the maps, which takes time and mental focus away from other things a person should be doing (like studying).
my genre of choice (ill probably get some heat for this) MMORPG's, and just to name the most famous of them all, WoW
seems like the type of genre that can turn a johnny appleseed, to a gerky mcfertinbergerferter...
