Blu-Ray's Statement on Wal-Mart's Decision

In light of the big Wal-Mart announcement that came down today and hot on the heels of similar recent decisions by Netflix and BestBuy, Blu-ray Disc Association's chairman Andy Parson issued the following statement:

"Retailers have a tremendous impact on consumer preferences, and as the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart's reach and leadership are unparalleled. Their decision to support only Blu-ray, particularly in light of the string of similar announcements from the content and retail communities over the last six weeks, seems to us to be a very clear statement that Blu-ray Disc has emerged as the format of choice for high definition home entertainment."

The transmission also features a timeline since Warner Bros. announced exclusive Blu-ray support. The reference is available in the full report.

"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one." - Malcolm Reynolds

Actually, I really don't/didn't care how the format war plays/played out. I just wanted to use a Firefly quote.

Please don't hate me.

"I told all of you PS3 fanboyz that this was gonna happen!! Sony lies to you all and you still stick by their side(duh, dumb!) You all are gonna pay $600 for a overhyped console to play BLU-RAY movies that are gonna lose to HD-DVD anyways!!!"

Didn't he predict wrong lol.

there was another thread on n4g earlier where a bunch of us where trying to convince someone that 'this' anouncement is the biggie. yes the others were big but this one is the biggest non-movie studio announcement. I mean you can never say never but come on already. there's hardly anyone out there who thinks HD-DVD has a chance. Walmart is the behemoth of behemoths.

Firefly is a fantastic show, stupid fox. Quote away!

Bathyj6670d ago

Darkiewonder6671d ago

It's official. Let's hope they [blu-ray owners] don't just stop buying because HD-DVD is gone. :3
