WTF is Vegas 2 doing there? Sure, it will be a good military shooter but it doesn't look too special. Battlefield Bad Company and FarCry 2 would have been better candidates in it's place. Let us not forget about Mirror's Edge too which could be a really innovative and groundbreaking FPS with insanel single and multi player.

There is nothing to dethrone. COD4 is 1 million units behind it.

MS self proclaims Halo3 as king, king of what? COD4 having just as many people playing on Live? COD4 is already at around 6 million units sold. This is without a 30 million dollar ad campaign with old men crying and a piano playing, non stop G4TV coverage, carson daily, Fox News stories, and random celebrities buying it. COD4 will pass the halo3 lifetime sales because COD4 is the better--well rounded game.

Halo3 is hype. Its an OK fps with a huge advertising budget behind it. COD4 is the better game, single player as well as multiplayer. Yes it has a crippled map re-maker, and replay features. But anyone who has played a PC fps is already used to that, and its nothing amazing. It broke sales records yes, that doesn't translate into being a KING -of- game.

The problem SYSTEM WARS have created is that now people equate sales to quality of game, when that just isn't the case. Yes its part of the formula of a good game. But a title needs to show its dominance over other titles in its genre. With its gameplay and features, not just sales alone. In that case, that means Nintendogs is the BEST GAME EVER? right? Or COD4 is 1 million away from being the king based on sales alone, and not game play?

COD4 is the FPS console King to beat out. It has amazing features. Great single player, and almost perfect Multiplayer.

The ORIGINAL Halo did a lot for console FPS (though I stand by Goldeneye 007 being the true innovator) but Halo 3 was overly meh in all departments. I think Call of Duty 4 is the best FPS available... but no game is a "killer." You can enjoy both titles, there's no law against it.

I do think Resistance 2 will be a better title than Killzone 2 or Halo 3 though personally... they just need to tighten up the controls to CoD4 level.

Call of Duty 4 is a great game, and if we claim it to be king instead of Halo based on sales, then we have to remember that CoD4 is a multiplatform game. Now, if we base it on quality, then that of course can vary by opinion.

One thing that you can't deny is how much the Halo series has done for this genre of gaming since its release. There hasn't been a console shooter this popular Since N64's Goldeneye. Whether some like it or not, Halo is very popular and hype has nothing to do with it. Believe it or not, there are actually people who like its gameplay, and will buy sequel after sequel as long as they get new maps and weapons.

Due to the fact that the previous Halos had a long play life, its safe to assume that Halo 3 will as well. Call of Duty 4 is a great game, but in order for it to really dethrone Halo, it will have to go the distance. Can it do that? Its definitely off to one hell of a start, and the games in this article look damn good as well. Time will tell.

Killzone 2 could give Halo 3 a good run for it's money IMO, but not to sure about the other 2 games. But Halo Killers or not, I'm picking up all 3 games. And also I'll be picking up non-mentioned titles like SOCOM and Gears Of War 2.

Everything has to be the "halo killer". This has to make Bungie and M$ feel good. If I made a game and a over a year later (fall 08 for resistance 2) people are still trying to top it I would feel good. I remember when every FPS after Halo2 was going to be a "Halo killer". All FPS are different in there own ways. None listed in the post are like Halo. Why can't we just enjoy all the games we get and take them for what they are?

It's lunatic to think that people will stop playing COD4 once COD5 is released when Treyarch is developing 5...and I can't see myself going back to WWII again. And lets be real here not EVERYBODY will stop playing COD4.

Killing the single player experience that Halo offers would be childs play and that was done before Halo 3 even came out... Bioshock. The multiplayer experience will be the tougher sell.

GTA Iv. All gta games have outsold halo one and 2. In fact san andreas has sold more then halo 1 and 2 combined.

I believe Unreal 3 should have been a Halo killer multiplayer wise.. But people other then myself decited not to buy it.. So i cant say there will be a halo killer.. because when it drops, people JUST MIGHT not buy it..

But if Its about 2008.. i believe Resistance 2 will take the throne.. And if for some strange freak of nature reason resistance 2 doesnt win.. Gears Of War 2 will..

They all look great, I'm excited to see other companies stepping up. However, I have to play these games first, they look good but looks don't do it for me. Halo has lost a lot of it's magic, because it did nothing different except have a few great level designs halo3 lacked in your face action(aliens jumping out of windows, buildings blowing up around you, allies getting over powered and tossed)

I think its safe to say COD4 has been the Halo killer this year...and honestly deserving of the title. Its game play and mechanics are by far the best FPS I have played online for a console.

It may not be perfect...but its close to it.

Now, is there any game that will trump Halo3 in the hype machine and hysteria? That I do question. RFOM2 is sure to be great and KZ2 should be outstanding too....but I just dont see those IP's having the crazed fanbase of Halo. So no...nobody will eclipse the kinda hype and hysteria that Halo brings.

Im gonna admit that Resistance turned me off before I got a chance to play it. I think it was the WWII type setting. But by the end of the demo (and after fighting that awesome giant robot thing) I have totally changed my mind about the series. Killzone 2 however, just like the original, is definitely my style. I love the dark gritty nature of the series. I cant wait!

TO say that a ny particular game from c0d4 to R2 will or did kill halo is absolutely crazy. First recently i've seen alot of people happy and surprised to see cod4 ahead of halo for a couple of weeks now on xbox-live. Yeah its a good thing but who really cares come on everyone know that right now halo has a deeper online experience in terms of quality ( now the fun factor isnt a fact thats why i havent put it in as one p.s. halo is fun as hell to me). I know alot of people are going crazy over R2 I am also but lets be serious the only main attraction of r2 online for multiplayer is the 60 people they say will be able to play at once. The reason why i say they say is because as much as i want them to do this you never know what happens if there is one trend in the video game industry that holds up from the begginning is that not everything happens to make the final cut like envisioned. Now with that being said none of these games will reach the number of games sold, sh*t not evven close. you can blame marketing all you want but the truth of the matter is this game is most like soon to eclipse 9 million units sold worldwide on one console. If thats not great i dont know what is. So you can name all of these games as halo killers all you want but when it comes to sells no one is even close including cod4 which is on 360, ps3, pc, ds and cell phones. Also one more thing dont tell me sells dont matter because you guys argue of 360 and ps3 sales daily. With that said no game will be a halo killer.

Halo has its own fanatic following. Millions of followers at least. As with Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo, you don't kill it with a slightly better or inferior product. IT has to mess up really badly to die.

I know MGS isn't a FPS, but MGS4 aswell as MGO2 have the FPS camera angel option, aswell as thirdperson, and over the shoulder... so c'mon you gotta add it in multiple categories because it's not linear in that aspect.

Nothing on the PS side has the required amount of hype/marketing to complete with Halo 3's popularity. FPS fans account for a higher percentage of the userbase on Xbox360 vs. PS3 so that's another factor.

Halo 3 was a decent title, but it in 07, it got literally slapped around like a little schoolgirl by titles like Bioshock, COD 4, Mario Galaxy and Crysis.

Nothing shows jealousy more than a room full of hated comments. I always knew their was major fear and respect from the sony owners when it comes to Halo 3 but I didn't know it was this much. WOW.

Resistance 2. I don't even think about Halo as lead FPS.

If it weren't for Halo, we might not have had a control scheme on consoles that work well for FPS, and thats a fact.

You can't really compare Halo 3 to these other games because they're aimed at two different target audiences. Halo 3, with it's purple and pink everywhere and aliens with little kid voices, is aimed at small children, while games like Resistance 2 are aimed at adults. Its not fair for this article to compare a game intended for infants, like Halo 3, with games meant for adults.

These 3 games, though having potential, have never in their previous iterations came even close to Halo. So why believe the hype now? And to drag the Vegas series into this mess is just a ploy to make it seem like it isn't just another Sony ploy to make their exclusive games look better then they are.

Crysis is the King of FPS visually. MP I would crown Cod4. UT3 is the runner up in MP.

KZ2 may not be able to take the visualls crown from Crysis (yet KZ2 will be the console fps visualls king). R2 likely will take the MP crown from Cod4.

UT3 is just in its own league I think. Just a very distinct MP FPS with its UT3 Editor it gets the MOD Crown along with Half-Life 2/Orange Box. UT3 lacks the good SP though which is lame considering what they did with Gears.I think Bioshock holds the SP FPS Crown, runner up Gears.

Halo SP and CO Op was pretty good. MP good too pretty good overall It gets the family friendly fps crown.
