I like the look of the PS3. I'm glad it's close. I plan on getting a 499 version if the games I want for my 360 slow down. So that's what? Summer '07.

are not fast. anyways, for any xbox fan that has played halo, you shouldn't complain about any load times. halo takes quite a while. i seriously doubt load times will prevent anyone from buying a system anyway. if you don't want a ps3 but are looking for reasons as to why you might, then continue to come here for news. if you work for a company where this info may be useful i.e. gamestop, ect, then continue. if you just come to talk trash to ps3 fans, or can't have a legit discussion as to your disagreements, then you should probably hit the bricks. i've had disagreements with the truth in the past, but we handle it properly. he states his point and why he feels that way, then i do the same. it's not hard to have a logical debate with someone. and his dislikes of the 360 are valid. he owns one, and it doesn't meet HIS expectations. his personal preference is different. i know i'm glad we're not robots, and that everyone doesn't do and like the same things. be pretty damn boring that way. at least the truth contributes to the site with news and decent posts.

I feel happy for ps3 fans that the console is closer to launch. However I don't feel the load time was short. That was just to get to the title screen, what I consider load time is when it loads a level that you play.

I am looking to buy the PS3 but not until as least next year after the shortages have been sorted out. i suppose christmas 2007 or maybe sometime in 2008.

But I can't wait till pictures or videos of a running PS3 disapppear. This is hardly news, more like a drewl fest for PS3 fans.

Looks pretty cool, have fun with it guys. Never played a PSP so I can't comment on the OS. They said that it weighs a lot, is that due to the power brick being inside the system or just the overall density of the ps3 itself?

Im in uk so its about sometime next year before i get a PS3 but ive got a 360 so my head is not blowing up for a next gen console becuae ive already got 1 out of the 3 next gen system.

nice one on the noise sony. The first batch of 360's off the line seemed to be crazy noisy. although the next ones were fine(i think the samsung drives were responsible), mine I can barely hear.

I watched the video they had...I don't know how they says "load times non-existant" It seemed like they were staring at a black screen for a while, seemed like the camera guy even checked the ps3 too make sure it was working(about 23 seconds from ps3 menu,to game screen, yeah I counted) and even then that's just the openeing screen, no actual game loading. I wish they had showed that, might have given us a better idea.

I don't see the load time being that big a deal though, it only took a little while longer than the 360. won't be a deal breaker for most.

Well i got my xbox 360 in febuary this year and i really don't notice the sound as i'm playing games. I suppose its like driving the car with the radio on, you know its on but your concentrating too much on driving but the PS3 will be a good console but many fanboys on this site really need to grow up.

I didn't have any doughts Sony would pull it off on any of these areas, except, "2) It's heavy like a planet. No, really. It's impossible to pick up with one hand." but then again who cares; I'm not going to be holding it while playing with it. Now, what worries me is that there is no reference to the online network. Maybe there is nothing to be worried about, but to me the online network is my selling point.

Noisey 360 hell I can`t hear crap over my 5.1 dobly digital surround sound logitech speakers and two woffers. So who gives a crap about noisey or quite systems. People act like they are playing in a battlefield somwhere or in your moms house and she keeps complaining about the noise. Turn the volume up if you hear your system.

i counted how long it took me to load up CoD2 and jump on to xbox Live...it took around 8 to 10 secs. i will do it again (been awhile) to get the exact time.

anyway, my point is that the xbox boots up and loads games really fast.

also my 8 to 10 secs was getting into a game on live. so take some secs away for just loading...unreal how fast.

so i guess i got owned, according to you, somehow.

it is somewhat noisy though...but only if you have the tv volume off for some reason.

note added: also my time was with CoD2 disk already in the drive when i turned my 360 on.

Guys am not a fanboy i love games any games reguardless of what console there on ,i bought my 360 on launch day and have had the best gaming of my life period and i was really looking forward to some ps3 gaming, BUT then they announced the price and then blue ray crap and that was it for me along with all the bull.£425 is a lot of dosh to fork out in anyones book then theres games and cables ontop of that and were talking round about £600,how much that translates to $$$ i dont know buts it hell of a lot i can tell you.At the end of the day its the high prise tag thats going to let the ps3 down and it will be felt within the consumer market i can garentee that,ps3 will sell but at what cost to sony,theres two other big players on the market now and sony will find it hard to justify the high asking price when xbox 360 is growing from strenth to strenth with an amazing cataloge of games and fantastic online service,not forgeting the wii, SONY are not going to have it all there own way come this generation

That Samsung LCD TV they have and were using to play PS3 on, i have the exact same one, except mine is a 2006 made, theres looks 2005, but w/e. It still looks sweet on theirs, and i cant wait to get mine and see how sweet-lookin it is on my tv. This rocks. Also i like how the demos were motorstorm and RFOM, most likely cause those are the titles to get at launch and Sony wants to show them off. The statements about the PS3 being just as quiet as the slimline PS2 and emitting hardly any heat have been proven true yet again. Their statements were pretty relieving to read amid all the false rumors being spread such as the system being extremely hot, extremely noisy, and having very slow load times due to the blu-ray drive (which is horribly untrue).

Seeing this makes me want the console so bad. Its the same feeling I had when i first saw the 360. Theres only one things that i dont like too much. And its the dashboard/ps3 menu screen (whatever its called). Its just a bit too plain id say. But still, motorstorm looks fu**in amazing in those pics. The other game isnt mind blowing, but still looks pretty damn good. Cant wait to get one maybe xmas next year lol.

Hi nice find BTW, I say I love to see new things like seeing the PSP when it first came out it looked awesome. When I spent 300$ on it I knew it had went to total waste within a month of playing it if that.

I'm not going to let Sony waste my money like that again. Plus this is the people from the PS magazine or whatever of course there going to make it sound good just like Sony would. Thats why exactly why Sony let them have one now.

Also as I looked at the screens no that is not worth the money that I have added up for getting the experience from the PS3. I have seen just as impressive Xbox 360 games on HD TVs^^. What Sony was trying to do is cause a hype like I said from the PSP that I lost 300$ on getting much enjoyment from at all.

I also look at the games and compare them to each console and this year Xbox 360 is by far to me the most promising. So why should I get a PS3 this year? When I could get a better experience and save 200$. Nintendo Wii I could very well buy this year the price looks very reasonable and it has its own unique style.

Just maybe PS3 will impress me more next year. Plus have a price drop. Or then again maybe not maybe the 360 will have more promising titles for me again next year.

As I'm not sure why maybe because Ps3 has to many Japanese Developers and not enough of the games I prefer are being made for it. Now dont go pointing your finger at me. Maybe I'am wrong but whatever the reason the Xbox 360 still has the most promising games for it without a second glance.

Twice as heavy maybe...but it's actually smaller than the original xbox. PSM has said negative things about sony. They even praised the 360 when it came out...they're just clearly saying that the PS3 is obviously the superior console. - you know, if the console looks good... even if that's the size of a CPU, it won't matter... the original xbox looks ugly... uhmmm.. like a lunchbox... adding to it the bulkiness of the design = a big, ugly console... the ps3 as everyone have seen (in pictures) has a sleek and elegant design... so to me, in my opinion, it doesn't matter how big it is... as long as it looks good.. and besides... you won't carry it around all the time with you, will you? and wtheck, even the 360 is big, but people doesn't mind it that much, do they?

I'm not saying the PS3 is a horrible console at all. What I'am saying is the PS3 is not offering the great games like the Xbox 360 at this point. But I'm asking myself right now why get a console that supports blu-ray (which is what a big thing about the console) and I dont have a 2000$ or more TV to support it?

The Xbox 360 has got incredible online service with new updates coming all the time and are very dedicated to there online services. There may be a time that I do buy the PS3 but right now isnt the best time to do that to me. Also losing the rumble feature isnt good news.

I cannot Bypass what more the 360 has to offer for gamers than the ps3. Mass Effect, Gears of War, GTA4 exclusive extras, Halo 3, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, all of these BIG NAME TITLES. Also including some of the big title coming for ps3 to like Assasins Creed. If I'm going to get these title for the 360 also why get the ps3? Also the 10 year life span would it be even useful? By time then they will be a new console release setting it even higher quality. Honestly PS3 in my mind would not be a good choice this year. I'm not being biased because ps3 could have a better turn next year. This year is a hands down though.

I'm sorry, but the dashboard is a lot better than the crossbar menu. There are more intuitive options... and from what the load's showed me in the video they had there is nothing different than the 360. This really is nothing but a few fanboys getting exited over their lovedoll...

or maybe im just use to the 360's dashboard. i wonder why they haven't shown any games and only the start up. They also said it loads quick but what about in-game loading?

ps3=425 + extra controller(40) + 2 games(80) + mini usb so u can charge ur pads(5) hdmi cable(10)= 560

more worth the money, no need to have an add on cause it is already built in and wirless aswell, people dont bash me over this, u may correct me if u please but that is what i think.

- here, look at it this way... the PS3 is a console that would last for almost a decade... 10 years! they are not saying: "buy it now! it has all the new technology"... heck.. even they (sony) expect most of the consumers to buy it after 1 year or 2... of course they want you to buy it... but if it's too expensive for you.. don't... wait 1-2-3 or even four years for the desired price you want... maybe by that time even HDTV's have lower price, say 1000$ and is standard.. but still sony could say after four years: "we have a console w/c is packed with all the needed technologies for you to have a wonderful gaming experience. long hours of gameplay, full-blown graphics, and very realistic texture and physics. all that thank's to Blu-ray."

Why Blu-ray? Because by that time, we could have 2080p, and it will need more space, you know... and as game technology evolves, even the textures, AI, physics, and sprites will need more space... you won't need 10 DVD's... just 1 or 2 BD/s is enough... the ps3 is future-proof...

Now this is more like it. That last Article said sod all, but this one actually gives out new info. That being said, it still only points out things that are 360 related, which makes me respect their opinion less. Why can't they just focus on the console, rather than instantly drawing parallels to the 360? It makes the magazine look like it's run by fanboys.

First for all the people out there that say “why couldn’t they just report on the PS3 and not draw parallels to the X360?” They really didn’t talk about the X360 that much in this article but your right they did say “like some system I know” but what do you expect?

It is in our nature to compare!! We compare everything from cars, to houses, to cloths/shoes, everything, and as people we compare what ever is closes to the subject matter as possible. So lest recap, the X360 is already out, the only next-gen system out, and we already know that the WII will not be as powerful in the graphics and physics department. So what do we have to compare the PS3 against? Right, the X360. Xbox fanboys you should be happy that it is compared to the X360 that means that people really look at the system as a contender against the PS3. (I only call it a contender because I assume that we can all agree that PS is at the top of the hill as far as it is considered with console gaming right now, next-gen is a different story, you can't compete in a competition all by yourself, your just the leader.) Now before you start screaming fanboy at me think about it.

Last go around most people just wrote off the Xbox. When ever someone brought up the comparison between PS2 and the Xbox the argument was over before it started. All someone had to say was PS2 has more exclusive, it has Madden, it has GTA, it has DMA, it has Metal Gear, it has GT, the list goes on and on, plus EVERYONE HAS ONE!!!!!! (100million people is a lot of people folks) That was it, end of the discussion. Now THIS TIME everyone has to stand up and take notice to the new kid on the block. Why because now X360 has good exclusives (even though a lot are just timed exclusives) a better price point (lets not forget PS2 was cheaper than the Xbox for years) and right now a better line up for Christmas (this is Sony’s launch holiday, If you compare Sony’s launch holiday with X360 launch holiday, that would be a better comparison.) And don't forget a killer online application!!!!!

Now as for this whole $2000 TV business, lets be real you had to buy a new TV for you X360 TOO!!! Maybe you didn’t spend 2g’s but I know most of you spent close to 1g (that’s one thousand dollars) for a decent 720p TV at the time. And if you didn’t you are still enjoying you X360 on a standard TV Right!!!! So lets not get in to this thing about how the PS3 is so expensive. So is the X360 people!!!!! And I am sure that if PS fans cant afford the new TV they will do fine with a standard TV TOO!!

What Sony wants with Blu-Ray is like an open book. They want it to succeed. Who can blame them? Put it in the PS3 for the 1080p games, more content, bigger longer what-ever too. Who can complain about that?

That point was about the PS3 joy pad. I think that this IS a reason you should buy the PS3. It s a feature and features are why you buy systems. All I am saying is that if the shoe was on the other foot and MS came out and said something new about their online feature would you still say the same thing, that “… it makes it appear that their main arguments are not why you should buy a X360, but why you shouldn't buy a PS3. I find that underhand.” I don’t think that you would because it’s just a true observation. I just hope that you can see what I am trying to saying.

As for the last point about the Blue-ray I agree Sony defiantly has a lot invested in the new format. Absolutely more that MS has in HD-DVD or DVD in general. But again it is just a feature, nothing more nothing less. And I believe that more storage is better. Do we need it, maybe not, (more than likely, not if you take the time to code tight, and there are good compression algorithms available) but, just like people don’t need 1 terabit or even 500gigs of storage in their computer I know people that do.

I think that there are problems in both camps and I know that I would have done things differently for both sides. But right now try not to look at this or any new information as someone is trying to persuade you to buy the PS3, just take it for what it is worth, new information, the dispelling of rumors made up by people that obviously don’t want others to buy the PS3, and a choice!!!!!

As a gamer I'm refreshed to see civilized conversations about the systems... of course there was the stupid fanboys in the middle of what seemed to be a very decent conversation.

Although you guys admitted to being fanboyish I commend you on being gamers first. Yes every gamer has there preferred system that they like over the rest because of exclusive games or series they are very biased about.

This article to me was a way of seeing the system in action.

1. I'm sure the system will launch directly to game or movie if you have it in the system already and will bypass the main screen. Just like the psp does.

2. I watched the video and the load time from the time the game was in and they clicked on it to launch it was 15sec. from :07-:22. Which is much better than some games on my ps2, but again load times are also based on how the game is designed. So I'm sure others will be longer and others will be shorter. Same goes for games on psp, and ps2. (only talking seconds difference, nothing as a gamer people should really worry about.)

Just 2 things I wanted to note. Up for argument but again its really a moot point since its all a matter of perception and how one person perceives the load times. The only place load times really matter is when your playing the game and what you perceive is a reasonable amount of time between maps (or whatever the case may be) This of course this was my perception.

I have followed the Final Fantasy series from SNES til now and will go where it goes but I have found other titles I like on the playstation and ps2 such as GT, GTA (although now multiplatformed), Romance of three Kingdoms (also was SNES to playstation), RPGs, MMORPGs, Strats, puzzle, and etc. (Having a hard time remembering all the games that I like)...

I honestly can't comment much on Xbox\XBox360 cause I haven't owned those systems yet but so far haven't seen too many games that interest me. I think there was one but I got it for the PC instead. I have played them because of friends that have them but I'm not comfortable with the controllers yet so have a hard time with the games but they are fun systems. (played sports games on them which I'm not good at in the first place)

Anyways to all the gamers out there: enjoy your system of choice and enjoy the games you like to play.

To all the fanboys: well try to tone it down a bit and have a normal conversation with the rest of us and try to keep it retaining to the article.

You can get a HD-tv that doesnt support 1080p for quiet cheaper I seen them at 1000$ and actually cheaper and thats what you need to get to play Xbox 360 games in HD. But if you want to realy get the Blu ray effect then you have to pay 2000$ for the Tv that supports it. Sony rattles on about the Blu-ray all the time what good is it if you dont have the TV to support is what I'm saying.

Even the PC dev admitts it, he just prefers 360, cause for him as a PC dev it’s easier to develope for. If PS3 developing would be really that hard, 1st gen PS3 games would never look better than 99% of 2nd gen 360 games. If PS3 developing would be really that hard, devs wouldn’t be able to deliver ports with updated graphics, cause they would invest all their energy to just make the ports run on the PS3.

You heard it, 1080p and already 1st gen PS3 titles are delivering it. Do any remember of the MS 1080p announcement? It’s nice to hear 360 supports it, but where are the games? Where are some announcements of native 1080p 360 titles? As sad as it is, there are none. Sure, 360 can support 1080p native, but the question is, does it have enough power to run such games in acceptable framerates? GF5200 also supports dx9, but you can forget playing dx9 games in acceptable framerates with such GPU.
All ATI and MS can do is talk, but as sad as it is they can’t walk the talk. They say 360 has 5 times the bandwidth than the PS3, but why do 99% of second 360 games look worse than 1st gen PS3 games? MS just wanna milk their poor fanboys, that’s why they made it impossible to use an internal 2.5 HDD. And please don’t come up with that you can use external drives. Who wants to use external drives? Not only that it looks ugly, it also takes more room. That’s another advantage of the PS3. It takes just less room and looks much better if you have everything in one device than having an external HDD and external HD-DVD connected. And how dare MS even to release a HD-DVD addon without HDMI? Most of the buyers won’t even know that this device can be only used for a limited time. So how will all the addon buyers feel when after some time they find out that they can’t watch HD movies on it anymore? They will feel ripped off, or do you think MS will advertise it’s HD-DVD addon as a HD player with a limited usage time? As a liars, as a thieves they are, I can guarantee you they won’t.

Sony isn’t forcing people to buy Blu. If you wanna experience real next gen games without any cuts, Blu is nescessary. Why should people give up on spectacular CGI, something that was already standard in the last gen? This would be a step back and next gen shouldn’t make a step back in any area. The next gen isn’t about making a step back, it’s about making a step forward. Many gamers love spectacular CGI’s and the devs are very happy with Blu, so Blu is nescessary.

Another negative side of Xbox360 are the additional costs for recharging the controllers. While Xbox360 owners have to buy a Charge Kit, the PS3 owners can do it with a simple USB cable.
This shows that Sony thought about everything to make it as cheap as possible for their fanbase and this shows that MS thought about everything to milk their fanbase as much they only can.
MS just doesn’t care about gamers and their fanbase. Also the very short(only 4 years) Xbox support demonstrates it perfectly. They killed Xbox right after the 360 was released and this was an awful move. With such a decision they showed how much they care about the Xbox fanbase. From the Xbox owners I know, only 1 bought the 360. The rest is very pissed and some of them don’t wanna buy a MS console again. Truth is, many gamers don’t buy the new console right at launch. They want to wait 1-2 years for a price drop or for some games that really interest them. But MS doesn’t care what they want, all they care is how to milk people of their money.
What makes all these even badder, is that MS is the richest company in the world. They could very well still support Xbox, they could very well sell the Xbox360 accessories at a lower and more reasonable price and they could very well make even a console that offers more than the PS3 but is cheaper. As the richest company in the world, sure they could, but that’s not what they want. All they want is to milk people, same goes for the PC gamers. Why do you think they release dx10 only for Vista? The answer is simple, as greedy they are, they wanna force all PC gamers to buy Vista.

Hey not to get in the thing too deep but EnforcerOfTheTruth has a few good points, specifically about how MS does its business and how they do their marketing. So on that note, dredrakes said that the future is using the hard disc drive for games. Two things, first to download games to the hard drive right now or anytime in the next 5 years is not going to happen simply because of bandwidth problems. And secondly, if you have a X360 you know that although they boast to have 20gigs of space, really after the upgrades to the X360 and your initial setup you only have like 12gigs left on your 20gig HDD.

I watched my best friend open his for the first time sign-up/register for the silver/gold package (cause you get the free month of gold) and before he went to download his FIRST free demo he had just about 12gigs on the HDD. WOW ….. If games are going to be on HDD and games are about 4gigs right now on X360 then that is 3 games, that’s it. WOW ….. That’s not going to work. Now I know what people are going to say well they (MS/X360) will bring out a bigger HDD. And yes they have been talking about it but if the 20gig is $99 then how much you do think they will charge, honestly, for a say 60gig. I wont say 300 but defiantly between $200 and $250.

P.s. To my knowledge you can hookup an external to your X360, but you cant get it to recognize your profile on the external while the 20gig one is hooked-up. I could be wrong though I will try tonight. (that’s also not to say that MS might not come out with some patch to fix this. But……)

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
