He was so nice to this game.

There's never been anything to hate about the xcom games, turn based strategy at its best with the exception of Jagged Alliance 2.

I think he hit the nail on the head with the repeating cycle of:

Oh, new weapons to kill aliens with > Alien allows for new weapons, can't wait to kill some with this.

Sucks you into the whole 'just one more mission' routine. :)

Gonna get this game for Christmas :) I like a bit of strategy every now and then. I Enjoy Valkria Chronicles & Disgaea 4

It's a great game, well worth picking up. It's hard at first but once you get your bearings it becomes addictive.

Blastoise4917d ago

Sounds like all the best games to be honest lol

beerkeg4917d ago

Not really. In most games, when you start you can finish the game even if you screw up in a few places. In Xcom, if you screw up you will be f***ed. And once you are f***ed you will need to start a new game as you won't be able to beat it.

That's the difference.

Wow a positive review!
I think zero puncutaion's are hilarious, but they're always negative or at least gives that impression regardless of weather he was in favor of the game or not, good to see one that finally was clearly liked.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

Excellent game.
Played to death on PS3 years ago.

What other games were inspired by this game?

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

shinoff2183902d ago

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Ten Best Tactical Mobile Games

There are few things more gratifying in gaming than skillfully turning the tide of a conflict. And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
