Valve: Linux is better for gaming than Windows 8

Valve's Drew Bliss spoke at a Linux Developer Summit this past week and stated that Linux is a platform more viable for gaming than Windows 8. Do you agree with him?

Can't help but think that part of this is fueled by MS directly encroaching on Steam.

Considering how the industry is now - get product out ASAP whether it works, fix it later - are you really that surprised?

They should wait until after beta-testing to make such a comment, lol. I mean, I'm rather sure I can go and play a game through windows without a fuss. But I'm sure I'll have to wait for a beta invite for Linux.

Well PC gamers have proven savvy enough to avoid GFWL for years, so hopefully the trend will continue and the newly rebranded GFWL, "Xbox on Windows", will be similarly shunned by the community. Microsoft's attempted monopoly on software sales should not be rewarded.

I dont think im going to touch windows 8 with a stick. Im mostly worried about when i go to buy a new gaming laptop and i have to remove this.... infection...

Win8 will probably finally drive me to take the plunge and turn to Linux for everything afterall. With Codeweavers giving away Crossover tomorrow, I'll probably switch for good. Up to this point, I am running Win7 and Mint side by side, but I don't think it will stay that way very long in the future.

Valve responds to NY Attorney General lawsuit

Valve has responded to New York Attorney General Letitia James' lawsuit against the firm, stating it does not believe that lootboxes in its Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 games unlawfully encourage minors to gamble, adding it was "disappointed" to see the action go ahead despite efforts to "educate" the NYAG about virtual items since "early 2023."
