I cant imagine a screen that size being HD, small screens dont need it...

Hello 500 dorra handheld, I wonder why people are clamouring for a PSP2 already when the original one still has a LOT of life left in it.

Battery space / connection ports have not been allocated on this mock up. It does seem nice, but not 100% viable. (not enough buffering space around the screen.) Would like to still see the old WLAN hard-switch.

I'll say this however, given the state of OLEDs and the size of Blu-Ray diodes, a touch version could possibly be in the future. Probably replace the red laser UMD drive for a BR-UMD.

The last important component for making such a device is the processor. I just don't think there's one that would push a new generation of hand-helds just yet.

The PSP has just been redesigned to the PSP Slim last fall. That costs a lot of money, Sony won't throw in much more for a totally new PSP so soon.

Everything is terrible but the screen and the little XMB bar at the bottom.

That touchpad/onscreen controller thing is hideous though.

I know last week's model looked badass, and I'm not trying to outdo it anyway, I think its a great 3d model. I am just trying to show everyone my tale on what I would like for the new PSP (which I've haven't said either should come soon) but it seems I get flamed for that.

Aside from the finger prints you'd have all over the screen, I find it completely natural *Always have*, to rest your thumbs on both the directional pad and buttons...how are you supposed to do that? Wouldn't it just think you are holding down the button?

Please sony, don't do this. Incorporate touch on the screen, but leave the buttons as physical buttons. I would love to be able to write/draw on the screen. Maybe put some sort of program that will convert words you write into text? Texting is a royal pain on the PSP.

Touchscreens for games are overrated.

Idea need some tweaks like actual buttons and dual analog stick but the hd touchscreen is cool no need of HDD when you can have faster SSD or flash memory. Sony should make something like this for psp2

Mini BluRay, please no, not another new format, just put flash memory or a 1.8inch HDD in it and have all games as digital downloads.

Not so sure about the touchscreen either, without the feedback (particularly from the thumb sticks) it will be very difficult to play particularly racing games, also that it will be flat will make it kill your hands to use for more than 10mins.

In all I preferred the slider one shown on Kotaku yesterday.

That looks so awesome I wonder when it comes out.
Another thing they need to add to the new PSP is one more toggle both with better motion like off the DS3.
You should have Skype (Phone), PlayTV, Home, Yellow Dog Linux Program built in and be able to download PSN and PS3 games to your NEW PSP2.
I also think the Wi-Fi and GPS signaling should be built in just like what the PS3 has already.
1080P resolution sounds awesome and a built in Blu-ray player also sounds awesome.
I still think this new PSP2 will be like $400 on release.
I think I'll just hold of on buying the PSP Slim and just wait for the PSP2.
I already have a PS3 so I'm fine but this sounds even cooler.

Also they should make this PSP2 backwards compatible w/ the PSP.

I like the PSP its on a come back... the Dev kit cost was dropped so it should get a rush of people porting games or makin gnew games for it.. Its far more usful than a DS.. If they should change anything give it a hard drive.. My ipod nano has 20gigs how dose the psp have 0

The other concept i saw was No umd drive.. thats stupid too because they slaps all the people who made movies and games on umds right in the face.. and all Movies and games bade until now wouldn't work on those machines.. I mean come on do you really see that happening?

Sony wants umd to pick up with Blueray... If they were smart.. they would include umd versions of the movies they sell on BLuray included with it.
And while im venting in Gods name why do they Have the spider man trilogy or seasons of tv shows on so many discs? isnt the point of blue ray how much u can put on them?

did anyone realise that resistance fall of man is being played on psp. look at the health bar its the same as the ps3's resistance must be a psp resistance 2 or 3. controls look hard with the gamepad in the screen how would you walk forwards with no analog. hopefully they change this

OLED Screen - 1080p,etc...
2 analogs - Come ON!
L1,L2,R1,R2 - If it will play old PS1/PS2 games, it MUST have all buttons
Built in - Wifi (internet), Bluetooth (extra PS3 controller), Mic & Cam (Skype, Digital/Video capture), and GPS
Keep UMD (for Older PSP games)
Keep the Video-Out Feature
Keep it thin
And I don't think Touch Screen is a bad idea, just don't make it too much for games. But instead for other purposes (ie: XMB navigation, Text messaging, etc.)

very cool looking but impractical. I do hope they use mini blu-ray in a UMD case like they do now to keep them from getting scratched.

also there is no need for a hard drive any more since flash memory is so cheap. They can have onboard flash memory for game caching(if needed) and a flash slot like they do now for the dou cards.

You've taken a normal PSP and whacked a bloody great screen on it! It looks awful to be honest and the kind of attempt at design I would expect from a 5 year old! The other one that was previously linked does look good but I don't see the need to incorporate a mobile phone into it .

The design is cool from a geek point of view, but are those real tactile buttons or virtual ones? Call me crazy, but I like real buttons that have a feel to them. The next problem is the mini-Bluray idea. Has anyone realized how much battery power is wasted from requiring a drive to rotate constantly? Why do you think the DS's battery lasts so damn long? There are no moving parts, which means better battery life. Mini-BR would require a bigger battery than a SD memory solution, and therefore, would likely be heavier as well. Moreover, you are suggesting that Sony makes yet another proprietary format? Now you will need to buy the big Bluray version of the movie for your big screen tv and a smalled mini-BR disc for your PSP2. Doesn't that sound like history all over again?
