If these predictions are right (and for the record, I don't think they are) this would be suicide for MS. To abandon another system after such a short life would be crazy. As I've stated in some other posts, with the whole RROD thing and abandonment of their hardware is a true recipe for disaster.

Mark my words, if they abandon the 360 in the same fashion as the original xbox and end up rushing another machine to market with hardware problems, they will be DOA in the video game market. Yes, they have a lot of money to throw around, but gamers won't be slapped in the face too many times before they turn their backs on you.

I think MS is really going to take a look at '08 and see how the tide goes before deciding. If the PS3 does gain momentum, you might see a 720 announcement sooner rather than later, otherwise if the 360 can hold its own and MS can get a handle on the RROD, the 720 might come later.

What MS cannot afford to do is have another hardware disaster like the 360. If they haven't tested, retested and tested again the quality of the 720, then they can consider themselves done in the gaming market. Consumers won't put up with that again, and will already be gun shy about getting a 720 release unit.

I also don't see the 720 as technically superior to the PS3 (mainly in graphics) to the extent the PS3/360 is to the Wii. You don't see alot of PS3/360/Wii titles coming out, they typically aim for the PS3/360 market and then Wii lives in its own world, or if they do have a Wii version it is redesigned for both Wii control and graphics. If the 720 was a step beyond the PS3, you would then have 3 disparate systems and developers would have to choose one of the 3 unless they had big bucks and the backing to make 3 totally different versions. The 720 would not have the user base to entice developers to aim for just that system unless MS threw alot of money at them.

The 720 will fix alot of missteps that the 360 had and will up the ante some on power, but not to a significant degree.

I read it - sounded completely contrived. I would bet a lot of money that those predictions will not happen. A related article on the PS3 on the same web site said this:

"This may be true but bear in mind that the Playstation 3 is a completely different beast. It is more similar to a PC than to its fellow console brethren."

Everyone knows that this is false - the PS3 is the least like a PC of all the consoles. So in summary, this article is flame bait and poor flame bait at that.

If they release another xbox that soon I wil buy a playstion and never buy another console from Microsoft as long as I live. The 360 has alot of live left in it.

If anything, maybe they'll announce a redesign of sorts, like the slimline PS2, and make a harddrive standard. Its way too early to abandon the 360. They should instead make a new model, add in everything (hdd,wi-fi,hdmi,and maybe even a blu-ray drive if need be). They can keep dvd for games for now, but really allow the use of the harddrive to make up for its limitations. Although I like being able to take my 360 hdd on the road if i want, i think that the PS3 way for this would be much better for a new model, and cheaper for consumers that want to upgrade.

They will reveal that xbox 360was only made to be a breakthrough to hd digital downloads and that the developers were fooled into making great games for a shaky console. Ps3 just needs more support from the people in order to get those developers who dont have big wallets to make a game. That way developers wont have to worry about losing customers due to hardware malfunction and can gain customers on a ps3. Which will be in every home by the near future. You oughtta be thinking long instead of the short RAM MAGNUMS HAS SPOKEN...
