RipTen Review: Forza Horizon

What happens when you take the physics and feel of a racing simulator and combine it with the open road? Forza Horizon happens. While it certainly doesn’t follow the path of its predecessors, it does a fine job at crafting its own experience, while still having the Forza quality.

This game really took me by surprise. I fell in love with Forza all over again. This is how a spin-off is done.

Not much for racing games unless they turn into transformers and start a battle midway, but this might make me change my mind.

A great racing game in its own right, hell yeah... Better than Forza 3 or 4? I'm not too sure, those were 2 of my favourite racing games this generation, and although I really enjoyed the demo and will be picking the game up on Friday, I can't see it being to the quality of 3 or 4. I hope I am wrong though :)

Its up there with F3 and F4 in terms od quality, fun and replayabilty...sure its not as huge as Forza raceing sims but giving the smaller budget and less staff than Froza 4 Playground really reprensted and lived up to the Forza name.

MS did a great job putting together Playground and after playing the demo they have earned my trust and can have my money day 1.

Turn10 is great but Playground has shown that they can roll with the big dogs and cant wait to see what they can do when MS gives then there own engine next gen tailored to there open world needs : )

Bought it today and I was not really impressed with the game.

I have many reasons but I will just list some of my concerns.:

-Not so open world. Everywhere has barriers and in the end it just feels like you are back on a track or 'caged' in most of the time. TDU spoiled me I guess here cause it let me go everywhere.
-Map was tiny, I think I explored everywhere within a few hours and including getting about half the barn finds.
-Story is mediocre and forgetable.
-Not enough variety in events. Besides the cool mustang v mustang plane every other event is just a sprint to the finish or boring short laps on boring closed off (lol) roads that dont even compare to F4's closed off tracks.
-Handling. ergh. Too arcadey feels very floaty and grippy. Not my cup of tea. It is like it wants to be F4's physics but decides not to be at the last second through a corner.
-Cars, sadly going through the manufacturers I realised they took like two-thirds or the cars from F4 out. Alot of my favorites were missing.
-Multiplayer mode is not open world like TDU was which is a step back in my opinion. You cant meet randoms just by driving around, cant show off your cars, hang out, challenge people etc... General racing with the Horizon tracks are boring to compete in too. Some of the other modes are ok though like infected and king.
-Copy and paste feel. Feels like not alot was new, and most of the customization was just copied car for car and part for part over from F4. Least add some new parts or something to make it more original from the last game.

Overall, to me the game just feels very small and not worth the full price.. feels like a beefed up xbox arcade game imo. I just dont understand the 9/10's this game is getting.

Other people may like it but thats how i just feel about the game. Sorry i really wanted to like it too. :(
