XCOM: Enemy Unknown Review | Impulse Gamer

Impulse Gamer writes:

"How do you approach such a well-loved franchise? You have Firaxis kick the tires and light the fires and go for the magic once again. Over my over 30 years of gaming the Original XCOM holds a place in my memories as such a spectacular game for its time. Though I have also revisited older games and found them not to be so hot anymore when put up against more modern games. Very few stand the test of time. I am more than a little happy that the franchise has been revisited. It is with interesting results that may be considered a bit mixed. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is addictive fun."

8.2 could mean a well made solid good quality game.

Or if they were IGN 8/10 = GREAT...

Hard to tell now with some of these sites.

I'm really loving this game. It can be frustrating though.

Tips:
Build lots of satellites
Research the Firestorm ASAP
Stealth satellite upgrade
Plasma sniper rifle
SHIV units (no poison, no mind control, no panic, no chrysalid babies busting out when they die, but no items, no skills, and no XP).

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

What other games were inspired by this game?

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Ten Best Tactical Mobile Games

There are few things more gratifying in gaming than skillfully turning the tide of a conflict. And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
