No Jahn Lee either ? Epic fail²

jc485734960d ago (Edited 4960d ago )

The guy who created this list claims to be "The MOST EPICman in the industry."

Venomousfatman4960d ago

Hey guys. I I like how you all are reading up on the article. There was a few reasons why I did not highlight Fei Long and Jahn Lee in here.

I felt Law from Tekken was a better visual representation of Bruce Lee. Both of those other characters are great and have elements of Lee going for them, but visually Forrest Law from Tekken looks almost exactly like Bruce Lee, especially in the promotions and pics from Tekken 3 and Tag 1. Fei Long is like a caricature of Lee by Capcom and Jahn Lee appearance wise looks nothing like Bruce Lee other then his fighting style, which Jack is much better at IMHO. I do allude to both Fei Long and Jahn Lee in a few spots in the article, check it out. Hope that clears up a few things.

DragonKnight4960d ago

Are you kidding? Did you not see Fei Long in Street Fighter 4? Super Street Fighter 4? Even his persona is the same as Bruce Lee. A martial artist/actor. Law is nowhere close. Fei Long is by far a better representation of Bruce Lee. By a wide margin.

So again. No Fei Long = Epic Fail

Krimmson4960d ago

While I agree that Law is one of the best (if not the best) representations of Bruce Lee in a video game, you should keep in mind that unlike Law and Jacky Bryant, Fei Long and Jann Lee acknowledge Bruce Lee's existence and owe their lives to him.

In Fei Long's SSF2 ending, he goes on about how there will never be another legend like "The great one and his son," an obvious nod to Bruce and Brandon Lee. You can also see a statue resembling Bruce Lee in his ending.

In Jann Lee's DoA4 ending, he remembers his hard childhood and becoming a martial artist after watching Bruce Lee movies and being inspired by the Dragon.

It would definitely be nice to see characters that acknowledge and pay tribute to the man himself in their games be featured in the article.

Baka-akaB4960d ago (Edited 4960d ago )

Even if jann Lee doesnt look like Fei long , he's the one with Bruce's maneerism and best animation so far .

I dunno why you felt there wasnt enough place for All of the Bruce Lee clones , there arent that many around , and it's the premise of your article , yet wasted time on Liu Kang , wich isnt either a look alike and doesnt even truly share moves . He doesnt eveb screams like Bruce lee at all ... but take the usual parody BS to the extreme

Omnislash4960d ago

The funny thing about Fei Long is that in the Street Fighter world, Fei Long AND Bruce Lee exist. If you ever rad the Udon comics you can see it because Fei makes a reference and mentions him.

Venomousfatman4960d ago

You may want to go back and check out the website again. It's far from amateur.

No Tomonobu Itagaki making the game = Epic Fail

That is if a Bruce Lee game is going to be made.

Law is a complete mockery of Bruce Lee, fighting for money and hes a coward hes pretty much everything stands for everything Bruce Lee does not, as a Bruce Lee fan don't like his representation in Tekken.

bladesofagony4960d ago (Edited 4960d ago )

you need to see the whole picture dude, what if there was no tekken, bruce lee was a legend, he had to be experienced, i respect harada for making tekken such a thoughtful, beautiful and addictive fighting game this generation has ever seen, there are so many fighting styles to choose from, for example lei is the most accurate representation of jackie chan, what would u say about that ?

there is everything for everyone in it, i believe its not mockery but a tribute to the legends, and we should be proud of playing them

oricon4960d ago

Lei is an accurate representation i dont disagree about that however Law is not, there are other characters that tribute Bruce Lee that i dont like, for example Jacky from VF but i dont mind him because he just uses Bruce Lees fighting style whereas law uses Bruce Lees looks, and seeing him act like an idiot, money hungry coward in Tekken i dislike him, dont like the fact Bruce is represented by a running gag in Tekken.

caseh4960d ago

@Phoenix_smasher

Indeed, the greatest form of flattery is imitation :)

Baka-akaB4960d ago (Edited 4960d ago )

You realize he is not supposed to be Bruce Lee ? Just a tongue in cheek visual representation of him ... Hell if anything in both tekken's Lee and Lei they tone down the facial ressemblance to their inspirations , and are now their own stuff .

Also they are just a placeholder for Jet kune do inspired fighting style in the game .

Jan Lee is more annoying imo because of his downright abuse of the trademark noises and battles cries . Jann Lee's spot on Bruce Lee screams went from unmatched to...well...almost as bad as anyone's Youtube video parody .

oricon4960d ago

Yes i understand he isnt meant to be Bruce Lee but the fact that they use his face for the character and see him act in ways you would never see Bruce i dislike about the character.

I actually like Jan Lee as a Bruce Lee rep as hes done without looking like Bruce Lee and his take on Bruce is different as he represents the people that Bruce Lee inspired, ie. from his storyline where he watches Bruce Lees movie and unlike the other Bruce Lee reps he doesn't mimic the life of Bruce Lee, like being working at a restaurant or being movie star etc instead he uses Bruce's Legacy as his guide to life like a fan would who is inspired by Bruce.

Law instead is just a comic relief of Bruce everything Bruce Lee stands for hes the total opposite.

GrahamGolden4960d ago

a game that would suit bruce lee i think is a shenmue like genre, that would be epic i think

DivineAssault 4960d ago (Edited 4960d ago )

I usually play as his mocks in games.. He is in almost every game that involves fighting & is bad a$$ mofo.. They never do him proper justice

This here was a great man.. Through his influence, i was able to fight my drug addiction & get myself into shape.. I wish that i could get my a$$ kicked by him just to see how strong he really was.. Incredible speed, accuracy, & strength..

Oh, & he kicked Chuck Norris' a$$ lol

Baka-akaB4960d ago

Seems to me they pegged in-fight footwork, his body language, his physical mannerisms perfectly with jan Lee of DOA , despite the different looks (and imo annoying screams). And nailed his moveset too .

Virtua fighter's Jackie got an even better move arsenal .

So it's pretty much there imo , any more and there might eb some trademark issues .

Pozzle4960d ago

No Hitmonlee from Pokemon? Surely I wasn't the only kid who's mind was blown when I realized what he (and Hitmonchan) was a reference to?

Blastoise4959d ago

lol I scanned the comments just to see if anyone else had mentioned it. You win!

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde29d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced

A new book detailing the artwork of the franchise has been announced

robtion294d ago

Let me fix this title to something less click baity for you:

New Book: Mortal Kombat: Flawless Victory Announced.

Garethvk294d ago (Edited 294d ago )

The description clearly says what it is. It is not like people have to click to the site. They just have to read.

robtion294d ago

Sure they don't have to go to the site but to get to the description they already have to have clicked on it. Thus the term 'click bait'.

Rebel_Scum294d ago (Edited 294d ago )

If its a book say its a book in the article title. Everyone’s gonna think this is a new game and get annoyed reading your description.

Garethvk294d ago (Edited 294d ago )

The Mods had no issues with the title.
The first line under the image says new book and you can see it in the preview windows without even having to click to read the description.

It also says a Visual History on the image.

Rebel_Scum294d ago

On desktop and mobile the text a visual history is not visible in the thumbnail on the homepage.

I grew up on this stuff. Adding it to the art collection!

I do hope the next MK iteration goes back to the core of what made these characters appeal in the first place. A few of them lost their edge - I think I've had enough with some of the auntie designs 😂
