I'm really surprised at the reviews... it's really high for this dumbed down strategy game. No one is criticizing why everyone has wall hacks, why the game is so linear and not random, why geoscape was killed, why enemies wait for you to come to them and then finally move, etc. One of the worse tactics game i've ever played. They aimed at the casuals and got their milk.

Hopefully, it'll be moddable/patched to improve strategy/tactics/randomness in the game.

Throwing grenades into a wall... herpy derp... it's like no one noticed that??? Shouldnt it bounce?

I can hardly be described as a 'casual' strategy gamer. (I wrote this review, and turn-based strategy is kind of my speciality)

I've actually gone into the difference between the old game and the new one in the article. It's not dumbed down, it's different / streamlined.

The original game was great, one of my all-time favourites but to say it didn't have huge flaws of its own, would be looking through rose-tinted glasses. It had huge flaws, and XCOM: EU has addressed some of those. It's not perfect, but it's a *lot* of fun to play, one of the best strategy games in recent years.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

What other games were inspired by this game?

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Ten Best Tactical Mobile Games

There are few things more gratifying in gaming than skillfully turning the tide of a conflict. And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
