The Nintendo Wii entertainment system had a great run, and I am proud to have participated in the offerings of one of the most revolutionary platforms of all time. The very platform that introduced the world to a new innovative form of battlefield control. Showing the people that while graphics are always great, they are not everything. Innovation, amazing exclusive content, and a low affordable price point are major keys to success.

Next generation I hope to see similar success with the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system. The next industry game changer brought to the consumer by the Nintendo brand. Luckily for future purchases. The Nintendo Wii U entertainment system is fully backward compatible with current generation software and accessories so you can relive the AAA quality magic when you feel it's necessary. Some of the highest rated exclusive offerings this generation were born and lived through the Nintendo Wii entertainment systems life cycle.

I can't wait to see people's expressions and hear their stories when they finally get to open the box to their Wii U. I can't wait to see/hear about real experiences from both sides of the coin.

Wii won't be over until we get some Dragon Quest.

GameLord084953d ago

Dragon Quest X, the MMO, is set for release on the Wii U, alongside the Wii title. Just no date yet.

I remember the excitement when the Wii launched back in 2006, oddly enough people were trashing it and saying it wouldn't sell and that gamers wouldn't give it a chance. I had to camp out to get my first Wii and it was an experience I would gladly do again.

People put the Wii down, but its given me and millions of other gamers hundreds of hours of fun and some of the best games of this generation. Nintendo has always been about fun and the experience over graphics, I own around 65 Wii games and I'd consider most of them to be classic or must have titles. I cant wait to start the next chapter of Nintendo consoles with the Wii U.

Well, to be perfectly fair, most gamers didn't give the Wii a chance, and Nintendo didn't really give gamers a chance, choosing to focus more on the casual market with the Wii than with core gamers, a demographic Nintendo has mostly ignored since the SNES.

As someone pretty familiar with the Wii's library, I've gotta say, even if you're including Virtual Console titles in that 65 number of Wii "classics," you sound like one hell of a fanboy. At most, I'd say there are 20 Wii games worth purchasing, and only two or three "classics."

Emperor_Obama4953d ago

I'd say that some of those close to 100 million Wii owners are in fact "gamers". I didn't feel betrayed by Nintendo, I've always had fun with Nintendo games and that didn't change with the Wii.

I with they would have offered a better online service, but I'm not disappointed in the least with the games, Nintendo has had some of the best rated and top selling games this generation.

When you think about the games for the Wii, the quality games quickly add up.
Mario Galaxy 1+2
2 Zelda titles
Smash Bro's
Mad World
Donkey Kong Country
Metroid Other M
Metroid Prime 3
Punch Out Animal Crossing
Sonic Colors
Epic Mickey
New Super Mario
Mario Kart
Wii Sports
Excite Trucks
Okami
Xenoblade Chronicles
No More Heroes
Mario Party
Paper Mario
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Zack & Wiki
Monster Hunter Tri
Red Steel 2
Dead Space: Extraction
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Trauma Center
Resident Evil 4
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Just Dance

That is just from memory of some of the Wii games that I own, there is a lot more and I've pretty much enjoyed all of them, of course there are stinkers, like every console has, but overall I'm very satisfied with the Wii.

LMFAO at that list, Emperor. Those PS2, PS3 and Gamecube games aside, Sonic Colors? Wii Sports? Excite Trucks? Really?

Jesus ****ing Christ.

Okay, yeah, sure. You have a point. If you ONLY play games on the Wii, I'm sure it has TONS of great games for ya'.

But, you know, it also makes you a casual gamer, along side those 100 million or so other casual gamers.

Seriously, though. Laughing my fucking ass off over here.

You think the Wii will stop selling after the launch of Wii U? Are you on drugs? Do you know the demand from countries outside usa? Bullcrap article from a person that knows Wii U is launching this years, but gazillions don`t.

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree20d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai19d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996) Still Feels Like Peak 90s Star Wars

This game along with Rogue Squadron got me into to Star Wars. The release of special edition VHS Star Wars collection was perfectly times on top of all that. 😆

Redgrave50d ago

Because it is.

Please re-release this.

SimpleSlave50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

But it wasn't. Although I do agree that some of the tie-in media, like the novels and comics, were pretty good.

Still, games like Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron, and the space sims were peak 90s Star Wars. Shadows fell flat because of the abysmal controls and unimaginative levels. And if you wanted to really experience the seedy side of the universe, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 was peak, and it wasn't even close.

Regardless, and much to my dismay, we got the better version thanks to Ubislop in Outlaws, which is what Shadows should've been, albeit at a smaller scale.

As a kid me and my cousins loved this game . I have great memories with this one and the Star Wars pod racer game .
