Mass Effect 3 Wii U dev porting AAA Square Enix title to the console

Straight Right, the developer behind Mass Effect 3 on Wii U, is working on a port of a AAA Square Enix game for the console.

So they are going ahead and just releasing ME3 when all other consoles and PC will have a collection of all three? Really?

Also want to say that the square title is FF13 but it just as well be Deus Ex.

gaffyh4966d ago

It could be Versus XIII, as it is being developed on Blu-ray, which could also explain why Square keep delaying any announcement regarding the game.

blumatt4965d ago

I sort of hope you're wrong because I don't want them to have any more excuses for delaying Versus on the PS3. I hope they release it on PS3 first and then if they want to port it elsewhere, go for it.

It is most likely Final Fantasy 13 and/or FF 13-2.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr34965d ago

Did you see any news mentioning otherwise?

Qrphe4965d ago

@gaffyh

Definitely not, the game is not even finished in PS3, much less ready to be ported by a foreign company.

It's probably Tomb Raider. I'd take a bet and say a FF13 collection either.

FF13 is not AAA in quality

it is AAA in costs

stragomccloud4966d ago

EA has really devalued their product here. Announcing the trilogy after announcing a stand alone Wii U 3. That's really stupid. I was kind of considering the Wii U version just for a quick replay even though I already own all 3, but now I'm thinking... no.

omarzy4966d ago

“big game in a well known franchise that will be released in 2013.”

Lightning Saga?

Better not be FF 13.

LX-General-Kaos4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

I hope that the ported game released is Final Fantasy Versus 13 for the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system.

I dont believe personally that FFV13 will be exclusive to any platform due to the new business strategy of Square. Everything that they have released recently has been of multiplatform stature. I dont think that FFV13 will be any different.

I believe 3rd party devs are porting their games to span as many console offerings as possible to maximize profit. Especially a financially unstable development studio like Square Enix. A game like Final Fantasy Versus 13 would do wonders on the Nintendo Wii U entertainment system, especially in Japan.

If not that then likely Tomb Raider.

Rated E For Everyone

GenericNameHere4966d ago

I know you want to play FFvXIII, but I hope it STAYS PS3 (or 4) exclusive. It would do wonders for Wii U owners, but it would do even better for Sony, as that's a game that would sell consoles for them. I'm not against you or anything, and I won't tell you to buy a PS3 just to buy this game, but porting it would make the game release at an even later time (and we wouldn't want to wait any longer), and it's a game Sony MUST keep exclusive.

ChickeyCantor4966d ago

" would do wonders for Wii U owners, but it would do even better for Sony"

What? Excluding sales is better?

phantomexe4966d ago

I've been wanting to play this as well but SE going maximise profits. SE don't owe sony anything. It sucks but i see it the same way money is money.

legendoflex4965d ago

I want to play FFVXIII. I do not want to buy a PS3.

dark-hollow4965d ago

Really? So the excuse that people here don't want ps3 third party exclusives to go to the 360 because it isn't as powerful as the ps3 and it will effect the "quality" of the game, but the Wii u isn't less powerful than the ps3.

So it appears it isn't fear about quality, but rather people want them to stay exclusive for the sake of being eclusive and bragging rights.

GenericNameHere4965d ago

The people below me: think what you want to think.

The PS3 is already the last of the 3 consoles (well, technically the 360 is, as it had a year all by itself, but fanboys fail to acknowledge that), and you don't want PS3 sales to go up? Yes, Square Enix would DEFINITELY LOVE to make more money, but you underestimate Sony-exclusive FF games. IX, Tactics, DoCFFVII, and CC:FFV didn't sell over 5M each, but the rest were. In fact, FFVIII and X both sold over 8M each, and FFVII sold 10M by itself, becoming the best selling FF game still to this day. FF is one of the games that made Playstation a household name, and Playstation made FF a household name (c'mon, we all know Final Fantasy didn't get the recognition until FFVII, as much as FFVI should have been the one to get it recognized).
We already know that Final Fantasy can do over 8M by itself on Playstation, so FF sells on PS, PS sells a boatload of consoles due to FF, process repeats, more games made on PS and FF gets more recognition, both companies win.

While most games from SE are going multi. vsXIII is a little big of a different story. Nomura has never directed a game that was on more then one system.

He only works on one platform, so I don't know if Versus will go anywhere other then the PS3. It could be multi, true. Nomura's track record points against it.

It is prolly FFXIII. By my money would be on Tomb Raider. That way they don't have to add new content to the game.

KingOptimusOrigin1114966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

No, just stop it now. It won't happen at all. You can keep wishing and hoping but its not coming to your little precious Wii U. Nomura only works on one platform. Versus has already went into full production on PS3!!! Just stop hoping!!!!

AlucardFury4966d ago

Nomura last I heard ain't CEO of SquareEnix. It ain't his call.

ronin4life4966d ago

I don't think it's THAT impossible. I also don't think production could be hurt anymore(...I mean... how much MORE could something possibly be affected? >,<)... or if it is being made for wiiu than that would explain more recent delays.

legendoflex4965d ago

Nomura doesn't have to do work on more than one platform if they're outsourcing the port.

tiffac0084966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

It can't be FFXIII Versus bro coz right now its SADLY still on vaporware status.

SE says its still in development but has yet to show anything new. We'll be lucky to see it on 2013. So I doubt its that game.

kesvalk4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

if they port Versus to the Wii-U, the internet will implode on itself, i like the internet so i don't want that to happen...

but seeing Square-Enix history, this scenario it's not that much far-fetched...

DigitalRaptor4965d ago

No, that wouldn't be a problem. The Wii U is more than capable of handling the game and would most probably be available on one disc.

The real problem is having the game developed towards DVD9 which would break up the pacing and storyline and overall quality.

So you personally want this game to be a "Wii U" Exclusive didn't you , Don't even try to think about Versus XIII, Think about something else other than my most anticipated game "Versus" .

Ports, ports and more ports. This is not convincing me to buy a WiiU.

Shok4966d ago

Please don't tell me you own a Vita?

omarzy4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

She does. A port comment is ironic from a Vita owner. I own a Vita and don't like ports most of the time, but that hate applies to all consoles. How can one hate ports, but only if it applies to a certain brand?

I'm guessing Mika has not seen the new Vita games being released. They consist of Hd versions of psp games, games that will also be on psp, and games that are already on pc. One of the most promising titles is a Wii port.

Of course Mika probably doesn't believe in Vita ports.

@GenericNameHere. If this was a Sony article, she would be defending it somehow. Don't count on a good explanation from her either. You'd have better luck getting a good answer from the nutrition facts on a bag of chips.

Shok4966d ago

Don't understand the disagrees, I wasn't dissing the Vita people, I was pointing out Mika's hypocrisy. I plan on buying a Vita next year, when the price drop hits.

Bashes the Wii U for having a lot of ports (what new console DOESN'T get ports?), but picked up a PS Vita.

@omarzy

Exactly. Thank you.

Man-E-Faces4966d ago

WiiU is Nintendo's next console, Vita is a side dish portable that has to compete with PS3 the current main dish and more importantly to Sony the incoming PS4 for exclusive projects. Honestly I feel Nintendo is just plain CHEAP! They made so much profit from Wii & DS yet their WiiU launch line up consists of played that, seen that games. You would think they would have better prepared their WiiU with NEW ip's to silence the critics about Mario being milked, yet still all I hear from Nintendo fanboys all the time is their anticipation for another Zelda, Smash bros., Star Fox game never do I see written or hear them want Fresh NEW ip's. We'll I am sorry Shok but Mario, Zelda remakes/tweeks dosen't cut it for many people.

StanSmith4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

@nostalgia

New Super Mario Bros Wii - 25,870,000 copies sold
Mario Kart Wii - 32,480,000 copies sold
Mario Galaxy 2 - 10,300,000 copies sold
Zelda Twilight Princess - 6,590,000 copies sold
Zelda Skyward Sword - 3,440,000 copies sold
Donkey Kong Country Returns - 5,630,000 copies sold.

Compared to PS3/360 EXCLUSIVE franchises;
Gran Turismo 5 - 7,940,000 copies sold
Uncharted 2 - 5,740,000 copies sold

Halo 3 - 11,300,000 copies sold
Halo Reach - 9,190,000 copies sold

Looks like you don't speak for the majority when you claim "everyone" is sick of Mario/Zelda/Donkey Kong etc.

I'd say people are sick of Uncharted seen as Uncharted 3 sold less than the previous game. I'd say they were sick of Gran Turismo seen as the sales for 4 + 5 have been in decline since Gran Turismo 3. I'd say people were sick of Halo seen as Halo Reach sold less than Halo 3.

50% of the Top 10 PS3 games are First Person Shooters and the same applies to 70% of the 360s. The biggest sellers on both PS3/360 are Military FPS. Yet still, people claim Nintendo franchises are over done and milked.

And what's wrong with ports? As long as they are better than the original games (with better graphics and a lot more content), I'm fine with ports.

Zhipp4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

Don't be naive. Exclusives are not the be-all end-all of a gaming platform. If that were the case, the 360 wouldn't be doing nearly so well as it is now. Ports/multiplats are necessary for the survival of any "hard core" system.

Honestly, we've always known that Nintendo's core franchises will show up on the Wii U sooner or later, but what we couldn't be sure of was weather or not third parties would bother bringing their titles to the Wii U. That is why every port, regardless of how trivial it may seem, is a good sign for the Wii U.

Publishers clearly have some interest in the system, and ports are their way of "testing the water", so to speak.

ChickeyCantor4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

You were never convinced ! You never intended to buy one.

The fake posture, hell I still believe you are a guy regardless of what your profile says.

Mika do yourself and everyone a favor and stay away from Nintendo topics. You are entitled to your opinion but everything you've said so far is just flamebait.

And then people try to sh*t on you, but often forget that feces are flammable.

DarkBlood4966d ago

i dont think you ever were going to get a wiiu if your looking at third partys for a reason to own the system

DeadlyFire4966d ago (Edited 4966d ago )

Its not like you have not seen this happen before. X360 got lots of ports when it launched from PS2. The games did awesomely well.

PS3 got lots of ports from X360 when it launched. They didn't do so well, but developer flaw to just slap it across like that.

The tradition of porting never changes. Next year we will see alot of WiiU games ported up to next console and so on.

2nd year games are full titles instead of ports in most cases if the hardware is better anyway.

I suspect this Square Enix title is one of four titles.

Hitman: Absolution
FFXIII: Lighting Returns
Tomb Raider
Thief 4

Most likely case would be either Hitman or Tomb Raider. As they are releasing sooner and only ones reasonable to port. I doubt Sleeping Dogs would qualify for a port. I would just wait for the sequel, but you never know.

Rockoman164965d ago

Lol, you don't even like the Wii U, why do you have to act so dramatic?!

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy55d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor56d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher56d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

56d ago
thesoftware73056d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

56d ago
KyRo55d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7255d ago (Edited 55d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher56d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily56d ago (Edited 56d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.
