The Angry Bit writes: It’s been a long standing argument between gamers and developers, the question: how much priority should backwards compatibility take in the hardware market? On one hand, gamers are reluctant to get rid of their old classics, or they might want to pick up a platinum game in future without having to buy a new console, which is both expensive, and can seem like needless clutter. On the other hand, not catering for backwards compatibility can allow consoles to be more lightweight and streamlined, and free up internal space for more gadgets and hardware.
Let’s take a quick look at some good and bad examples of backwards compatibility from our favorite hardware manufacturers.

New report from Skillsearch found that 22% of those surveyed had been laid off within the past 12 months.

It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI
I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise
We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.
Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.
it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.
This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
Come on… We are on 2012 and there are still people that doesn’t know that the PS3 can play PS1 games? The system lacks PS2 BC but not PS1!
And if the rumors are true that the PS4 will use x86 architecture then any modder could port a PS1/PS2 emulator with a jail-break. BC is not hard to achieve when you have the power, this is just Sony’s greed to keep selling those crappy HD collections that still doesn't even look half as good as the same emulated on a PC with ePSXe or PCSX2. PCSX2 plays Shadow of the Colossus at 1080p/60fps while the HD collection is only 720p/30fps. =/
How can these guys write a piece while being so uninformed?
